Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

That's right. Blood donations at 20 years old.

Just been quietly fan-girling over the latest updates. He's such an intriguing individual.

About blood donation in Japan, Don't you have to be a certain weight to donate? I had to be at least 125 lb to donate in the U.S. and struggled for years to be considered heavy enough.

Hanyu having trouble with the lutz and the quads today at practice. Says he's getting a feel for the ice at Big Hat stadium.
Gambare!

Weight cut-off in USA used to be 100 lb (at one time I was too thin). Now it's based on estimated blood volume - as in height and weight. Shorter people need to weigh more to donate.

Last listing for Yuzuru was 67 inches, 117 lbs, which would be sufficient in the US to donate blood.

:hopelessness: the worrying part begins...
All that worrying is not good for anyone! (((hugs)))
Anyway, at the GPF he supposedly also completely messed up one of those training sessions, what was it, opening all his quads and triples or something? But when it came right down to it... He'll be fine. :cheer2:

Thanks for the well wishes, everybody. I'll definitely think twice before ever letting anyone near my other three wisdom teeth. :scowl:

Short Q&A after the practice:

- About the practice:
I got the feeling of the ice to skate on the rink.

- Feelings at the moment:
I'm more relaxed than usual. I'm going to meet the skaters of my generation and those with whom I've competed in the past in regional tournaments. I'm doing things with delight.

- As the last competition of the year:
I have no intention at all to consider the competition as an end of the year. I just want to do my best in the up-coming competition.

- Tuning up after GPF:
After the GPF, I had only a week to prepare. Things are not perfect. I couldn't have enough time to revise. But I've done what I had to do. There is always a fluctuation in health management. I'm paying attention to its control and how to pull it off to the competition.

- About the three-peat:
I'm not concerned about that. Rather, I keep in mind that it has nothing to do with me. As I said during the GPF, it doesn't matter in a competition whether I am the former champion or not.

---

Yuzu as usual:) Calm, greedy and concentrated.
Every time I read his interview before the competition, I can see him trying to prepare his mind. I love the way he even uses the interview as a preparation for a competition:dance:

I'm so amazed by the fact that there is absolutely no one who has placed him other than the first place in the prediction game. Wow.

And what a shame there is no live broadcast of SP even in Japan!

thanks! he seems calm and sometimes i feel like he is trying to prepare us in case he doesnt win
he said in summer that "just because he is OGM it doesnt mean he will win every competition the next season", its almost like he wants us to not to have high expectations so he wont feel pressured

edit: is orser gonna be there? i think he wasnt with javi at spanish nationals, nvm i saw him at the video :slink:

Not sure but he was there last year, so maybe he will.

I understand what you say... I think Orser also said sometime that he didn't want the fans to expect him to win every competition after Sochi, because he wanted Yuzu to try out new things as the major goal is to win pyeongchang.

So no one was there to help Yuzuru fix his lutz and 4s?
I hope it's just he hasn't gotten used to the ice rink.
But maybe he is having issue with stamina again. Sigh...

Easy Meoima, Orser is there
Here video

He is landing both quad salchows and toes
I hope he found a way at GPF to make 4S consistent
But his lutz doesn't work at all :slink:
It is weird, given the fact that his luzt is huge. Sometimes his luzt is even bigger than his 3A. Maybe the problem with his luzt is he tends to get out of control?
Or it's just he has problem with the timing? Or it's his stamina? Since he nails the 3luz combo in the LP.

Ahhh, lovely CM! I find that this is my favorite out of all the CMs he's done this year, partly because of how simple and organic it is (and how the lip syncing suits him), but mostly because of its message. It is one that I support.

Also, I'm hoping he'll at least be on the podium, given the depth of the men's field in Japan. I would prefer it if he went for a three-peat, but I think he's right in his mentality that he may not be able to win all of the competitions, as his goal is one that is far greater, and the journey to which won't be easy. There is a reason why we have yet to hear of someone who has never lost a title in his or her entire career -- it's simply difficult to do, because you can have "on" days and "off" days, and your competitors are more than capable of rising up to the challenge if need be. What I am more concerned for is that he doesn't strain himself too much and/or aggravate any injuries.

Something I've noticed about his triple lutz is how little set-up he needs to launch it (although he hasn't really landed it lately :slink: ).I don't know, one of the ways I can identify the lutz is the long set-up for it, but with Yuzuru it doesn't take much. Anyway, maybe he just needs more practice to get the timing of the lutz and all the whatchamacallit forces. Good luck, Yuzuru!

(I do have a more selfish wish -- that if ever he wins, he wins without falls, because lately everyone's been taking it against him and calling him overscored by virtue of the belief that he can't have the highest SP score or break 100 in TES simply because of one fall out of an otherwise lovely performance.)
