Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I think JSF wants Shoma to take the Junior Worlds title first (he could be the fifth Japanese boy to have that title , and move to the Senior category next season, just like Yuzuru did. Then, it would be easier for him to get higher PCS.

In that case, it is unlikely they would choose Shoma for the senior Worlds.

I don't know till the LP has finished, but IMO, or I want Yuzuru, Tatsuki, and Takahito Mura for the senior Worlds.
And, Dice, Shoma, and one more for 4CC.
Shoma, Sota, and maybe Shu Nakamura for the junior Worlds.

EDIT: Shoma said his performance last night was 50% success.

The step sequence look the same. :sarcasm: one is level 4, the other level 3. Oh well...

I won't have time to check his steps, but if you wanna take a look at it, here are the criteria. (maybe this is a bit old rule!)


Levels of Difficulty
Number of features for Levels: 2 for Level 2, 3 for Level 3, 4 for Level 4
1) Simple variety (Level 2), variety (Level 3), complex (Level 4) of turns and steps throughout (compulsory)
2) Rotations (turns, steps) in either direction (left and right) with full body rotation covering at least 1/3 of the pattern in total for each rotational direction
3) Moderate (full for Level 4) use of upper body movement
4) Quick changes of rotational direction executed with turns and steps

Types of Steps/Turns
Types of turns (executed on one foot)
three turns, twizzles, brackets, loops, counters, rockers.
Types of steps (executed on one foot whenever possible)
toe steps, chasses, mohawks, choctaws, curves with change of edge, crossrolls, running steps.
Simple variety
Must include at least 6 turns and 4 steps, none of the types can be counted more than twice.
Variety
Must include at least 8 turns and 4 steps, none of the types can be counted more than twice
Complex
Must include at least 5 different types of turns and 3 different types of steps all executed at least once in both directions.

That is exactly why I love this program. Its complex, but when done well it looks extremely light and simple. Its rare to see such quality programs these days, most of them feels "heavy" and busy. All of his previous programs were like that too..very happy that his SS can keep up with this program's intentions. It might seem too early to say, but I think I want him to bring this back for the Olympic year :yes: That and stick with JButtle, since it seems like they really click well together.

Oh yes, that was definitely the 3 axel! Spectatcular!! He gets so much height and travels so far on that jump... the best in the world imho.

I wouldn't worry too much about the lutz guys. It seems to be a timing issue and I'm sure he'll work it out soon. If the reports are accurate and he doesn't go to 4CC, I'll be disappointed at not having the opportunity to see him skate in February, but agree that the best thing for him is to go back to Toronto and stay there awhile. Weeks of uninterrupted training and staying in the same time zone will do him good.

I love Yuzuru's skating but I'm almost never writing in here...
But now I kinda came by and lurked a bit and WHAT ?!
Landing 4Lo and even 4Lz in practice?
Jeezus this boy has still not reached his limits yet it seems, what's next, a 4A ?
I only really hope that he stays healthy and doesn't destroy his body!

True, but it took Yuzu two seasons to get to that level. He's still growing with his new SP. It'll take time, but I am sure he will get there!

Hi, I'm new here, I was just watching NHK World Viewres' choice Awards 2014 winner program (one of them): Flowers will bloom, Yuzuru skating Hana wa saku in Saitama rink. A doc of how this video was made. Brings a new side of him, worth of watching! It will be on air twice on Saturday, at 3.30 and 9.30 utc. There's a video too on the website but I did'nt get it going in my cell phone. I hope someone could record the doc, it's amaizing!

I was on the Sportsnavi website and under figure skating news there is an article that seems to suggest that Yuzuru came very close to receiving the 1 point penalty for late start during his short program. Of course, google translate from Japanese to English is often incomprehensible, but the translation suggests there were zero seconds remaining on the clock when he took his starting position. I replayed his short program and started a stopwatch with 30 seconds on the clock as soon as his name was called. Sure enough, the countdown hit 00:00 just as he skidded into position. I don't know if someone or something got his attention, or he was just lucky enough to get into position just in the nick of time, but that was close! You just never know in figure skating...one point can be important.

Ah, I see. Looking at the scores, Shoma isn't really that close to Yuzuru or Tatsuki (if we compare with another competitive event, Russian ladies, where Evgenia was only a point or two from Liza and Elena). It doesn't seem like the Japanese Fed as the whole is pushing Shoma.

But the tech panel and the judges might've had a... disagreement? Judges wanted to hand out nice PCS and GOEs, and the tech panel went into MURDER MODE for the levels... except for Shoma. I guess the tech specialist likes him.

But ya'll can't deny, Shoma got style I like his presence on the ice, such an exciting skater like Daisuke Takahashi. One thing I like about the Japanese men is they all seem to have their own unique style of skating, Yuzuru = wild, Machida = artistic, Shoma = musicality, Kozuka = graceful, Mura = masculinity, etc.

Never thought a day would come where I'm more concern over his triple jumps than his quad sal. Those lutz are becoming a huge problem. I think it has to be the preparation, his transitions are so quick that he barely has time to set himself up for those lutz.

Must be an effect of doing axels/quads too early or at least one of the main causes of it. I know that it can be correct by surgery but since his is in the spinal area, the risk might not be worth it especially for an active athlete. Continuously doing quads/biellmann/Ina baurs is definitely not helping his case....no wonder he feels like his body can only hold out for another 4 years.
