Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Noriaki Kasai (Japanese ski jumper) talking about Yuzuru at the imperial garden party (where famous people gather at imperial garden and chat with the emperor and the empress).

He says: "At the imperial garden party in spring, I was so nervous. The emperor and the empress was there, and I kept being very nervous. But, Hanyu-kun was talking to me all the time although I was trying to look formal. He was earnestly asking me about my sport, like 'How are your jumps?' 'Don't you feel fear when you jump?' 'How do you manage your mental condition?'. I was like, 'oh... he's asking me lots of questions when I'm feeling so nervous like this...' Then I looked up at his face, and he gave me a very very cute smile. So I immediately forgave him."

:laugh2:

There're lots of people who hate Yuzu in Japan. I just watched the 2012 JN medal ceremony. How could they abuse him like that. OMG. No wonder he trains abroad.

Is there any video about this? How did they treat him?? Poor yuzuru...

what happened?

I don't remember anything untoward happening in 2012 JNats.
However, many were displeased that Hanyu scored higher than Daisuke over-all and won the championship.
Hate is a bit too strong a word though.
This happens every time there is a changing of the guard -when a younger skater suddenly becomes champion and the well-beloved older skater is dethroned.
I dare say, when/if Shoma finally beats Hanyu at a major competition, some people will be displeased and be vocal about it too. :slink:
Hanyu was not at his best in the FS at Japan nationals 2012, and Daisuke was quite spectacular. -So that also played a part in the discontent around the final results.
That said, I believe Hanyu won the Championship fair and square and proved all his detractors wrong by winning again the next year and last year and winning all the major titles along the way.
There is nothing he can do about people who dislike him, except be kind and patient with the media -which he is, and skate as well as he can.

-Just my two cents about this subject.

Aw, missed the milestone. But congrats on the 1000th

Thank you all for the updates. Great to hear he's doing okay and taking things slow after the surgery.

I must admit I was one of those people, once upon a time, except I was behind my laptop screen haha! Not to make excuses for those people present that day, but I understand. Daisuke was my favorite; Yuzuru dethroning him was so painful at that time... Eventually I fell in love with Yuzuru though, and learned to love both Yuzu and Dai, so the past doesn't matter hehe
