Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Thank you all for the links.

Anyways, there's this topic that I want to talk about: Which one of these you think Yuzuru has improved the most from last season?

- Posture?
- Body line?
- Edge quality?
- Stamina (of course this is his biggest enemy)

And which one do you think he should take more time to focus more on that area?

I'd say his edge quality is the most visible difference to me. Then, his posture is much improved during performances, but he still slouches when standing normally. Then his stamina is also better...he's tired at the end, but not flopping on the ice.
Still needs to work on body line and finishing some of his arm movements. Sometimes he hits beautiful poses and sometimes he's...floppy. He can still have wild moments, but I'd like it if he would use his lovely arms and hands even more to highlight the music. Somewhere between Machida and Hanyu there must be a golden balance.

I think for me it is definitely his edge work, it looks a lot better this season but I think he can still improve it a lot more. His stamina is also better as, correct me if I'm wrong, his team put him on stamina training in order to prepare for 2018, but like the edge work I think he's still slowly improving.

I'm still not good with technical things yet so for me it's definitely his stamina. I watched some 2012/2013 performances the other day and the way he gasps is so much more intense. I keep hearing 'stamina training' being used, does anyone know what it actually is?

It's true that his edge quality has become much better. I hope he will get even better since next season PChiddy will come back.

He still slouches but at least not as before. With more ballet training maybe he can have much much better posture and lines in the end, since he has the right material for better lines (the long/thin body type with slender limbs). It must be a waste for such an ideal body to not have good posture and lines.

I also think his arm movements need improvement. In the SP his arm move better, I don't know if we should say thanks to the choreography or music, maybe it means that JB knows Yuzuru better. In the LP his arm movements are unpolished, though. but that's Yuzuru for you.

About his stamina I'd say he has improved but not enough. The biggest difference between Yuzuru this season and last season is the ability to control and distribute his speed during the performance to save energy I think. Especially at Japan Nationals, he knew his current condition to not overdo it.

And yes, I hope he will improve that 4S. =__=''

It's a very tiny detail but at the Nats LP, he had a powerful distinctive arm movement when he landed 3A+1lo+3S right before the mascarade part. I thought "Yuzu, THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT." Anyone noticed that?

Eteri said somewhere in a interview that Yuzuru's somewhat sprawled arms gave him an uniqueness which she wanted for her students. IMO Buttle has a similar vision. Both in PW and Chopin, he tries to incorporate Yuzuru's floppy arms into the choreography. I think Shae-Lynn is in the opposite direction and rather gave him a challenging choreography with masculine distinct arm movements this season. Yuzuru is still far from making it his own though. But, it was there that moment at the Nats!

I definitely think his edge quality has improved a lot especially after watching his gala performance at NHK and his stamina too~ I thought he didn't really looks like he's about to collapse after a hard programme anymore.

As for his posture, If he learn ballet or train himself to stand up straight he might improve the posture but, I don't think he can fully fix that. My sister has athma and she slouch like Hanyu did. Her doctor said it's due to the hunch posture she keep doing during athma attack since she was little and that influence the growth of the bone for her shoulder blade. Grown up she's fine from athma now (most of patients did except for those acute ones) but her posture is still like that. So I assume it's the same case with Hanyu~

Posture - Ehh not so much but it does look a lot better during his SP (probably due to the costume )
Body Line - Not really lol his extenstions are still the same, a little clunky
Edge quality - The most noticable. Its cleaner, a little bit deeper, and definitely smoother.
Stamina - Well, he hasn't been in the best condition this season to say the least so we won't know until next season if he's had any impovements there :p

Its hard to measure his improvements with this season but I see good progress. Can't wait till next season when hes (hopefully; at least semi) healthy

Posture - a little bit better, less slouchy during the skate but when he makes a mistake, his head drops (like last season)
Body line - Hmm it could just be the choreography but I like the lines he has now, a bit better than last season
Edge quality - most notable difference as everyone said. After watching a performance, i would watch it once again with me just focusing on his blades and he leaves very beautiful, deep cuts into the ice
Stamina - even with the clouding of injuries, it seems to have gotten better, or the fact that there's less content (transitions and jumps) could be but I think he looks much stronger at this point in the season than he did last (despite being injured)

Overall, I'm happy that he's improving, bit by bit! I'm not sure if his focus has ever been his posture, he's talked about his body line before. I think he's most conscious of edges (for good SS scores) and stamina (so he can complete a clean free program)

p. 1014-1020

I found a better quality video of CBC's coverage of Yuzu's Sochi SP but it doesn't show the scoring.

Also, this site has a whole bunch of ok quality videos from different countries of Yuzu's Sochi SP

while i randomly wathcing videos on youtube i came accross to this one from finlandia trophy in 2012, its warm up, he really dodged another bullet there, it looks scary, would be really ugly if he hadnt noticed it

Looks like Sendai Coming-of-age ceremony in Sendai had a space for Yuzuru more in this facebook group

Looks like they are also a set for the XYLITOL gun

Also, it looks like he is the second New Adult that people would like to drive with, after a girl from AKB8 (I do not get them)

Do we have a translation for this interview? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRRMwN1S7yM&list=PL78C75D146EDC96B1&index=104

Thank you in advance.

Here's another news. He is chosen as the most expected new adult, ranking first among each generations from teenagers to 50s

It is random but Im going to share some gifs here. Pretty Good job nonchan.(This took 7+ hours in total, but I am proud of it.) New ship Yuzutao. the girl's name is Tao Tsuchiya.

I found an old video from after the 2012 NHK Trophy with Yuzuru and Mao (the winners of that event) in an interview. It was really interesting to see Hanyu comment on the previous version of his Parisienne Walkways SP and interact with Mao-chan. Plus, the entire competition was held in Sendai!

Also found an even older interview from 2010 NHK Trophy where Yuzuru placed fourth, this was his senior debut in competition. Can't believe he was interviewed back then too! (and spoke in such polite, adult-like manner)

Just a reminder of the Fanfests rules "Fan Fest posters should be able to "gush," but NOT at the expense of another skater or of another skater's fans. "

Let us try to live in harmony with other fandoms if at all possible.
At least, Hanyu and Jason are friends.

-is this a ship? or just a very small raft or canoe?

Sorry to break the happy shipping boat ^^;; out of topic but is there a reason why Yuzuru's blazer badge is the only one different than the others? in this interview~

I just saw this small tiny bit of Yuzu's 2013 interview about Kanako. Could anyone kindly translate? I miss these two kids so much lately...

Which reminds me of another missed ship: Kevin and Yuzuru being cute iirc Yuzuru tries to steal Kevin's answer and is not allowed to. and Kevin knows Japanese. What do you think cheerknithanson?

bonus: Max and Yuzuru (found while trying to find the previous video)

bonus 2: with Han Yan; very romantic

Found the translation: there's some video links too : http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?35500-Yuzuru-Hanyu/page75&p=715526#post715526 (If this doesn't work it's on page 75 of this thread, courtesy of zydeco88

Amino Vital uploaded a different video of Yuzuru´s cm (I think)

And this is a list of Yuzuru´s cm, look like a kind of ranking, can someone confirm.

It's quite cool what he says in the amino vital cm.

Hanyu Yuzuru's determination ver.
When I can't do it, I'll do it until I can.
When I've learned to do it, I'll do it until I can do it perfectly.
When I've learned to do it perfectly, I'll do it until I can do it perfectly repeatedly.

Hanyu Yuzuru's evolution ver. (It seems it's web limited version)
effort, passion, absorption, development, victory, future, appreciation, challenge, evolution, sports, water, amino acid, amino vital.

I'm not a fan of his other cms but this one is really good. So Yuzu.

I dont know if any cbc versions are on dailymotion but here are other versions if any are interested;

Does this link work for you?

Then I'll just leave it here: Sochi SP 1080p rip (a reminder – click on the "HQ" in the right corner)
It's from the Rus. broadcast, commentators remain silent during the performance, though
(kudos to Alexandra from the VK)

edit: here is the spanish version of his GPF gala performance with english subs, they are not saying much but maybe because she said she lost her words

Haven´t seem this posted. Yuzuru is in the cover of World Figure Skating Magazine, is a lovely picture

Sharing a lovely fan video of this season so far.

I'm sure most of you have seen this, but I love this Olympics SP version with the "best comments":

I haven't seen anything but he was supposed to be in the hospital two weeks right? It's been almost three weeks by now

His surgery was Dec 30, then he was supposed to stay 2 weeks in hospital after surgery, which would be Jan 13. So it's been 2 weeks, not 3. Hopefully he is at home now resting.

I am guessing that no news mean that he is at home now? Cuz every time when he was back in Sendai it seemed that he did not exist at all.:sarcasm:

I am very happy and grateful for the people of Sendai and Japan that he is able to fly under the radar. Of course, I want to hear how he is doing too, but I prefer for it to be on his/his team's term.

Agree with this! Also, when Yuzuru is training in Toronto, the Japanese press have very limited access so I think he is left alone. Plus (thankfully) he isn't recognized.

Good point. Well I hope he is already at home resting where he can be more comfortable. Edit: oh god I just realized I quoted myself :laugh2:
