Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

No they're not. Worlds 2012 were commented by the commentators from France 2 and France 3 channels (Nelson Monfort who's the guy commenting on EVERY sports in France and who doesn't know much about the technical side, so that's why he is assisted by Philippe Candeloro who is quite fun to listen to and Annick Dumont).

I think that among the other guys (the ones from Eurosport) you find Alban Préaubert (a former French figure skater) but I'm not sure about the other two.

Oh thanks! I was confused for a moment since i thought the one named philippe from the other video was also philippe candeloro, thank you for clarifying :)

(so now I know the guy who mostly gets on my nerves is Philippe Pelissier ^^). Apparently he is a former figure skater and a coach
So im guessing he's the guy who was counting down during yuzuru's performance? If he was, then im with you on the "getting on my nerves" part^^

I agree with you. Yuzuru's free skate in 2012 was a masterpiece in term of choreography. They don't have to like Yuzuru, but I don't get the criticism towards that program.

I agree. Yuzu’s R&J 1 is really an excellent choreography. I also like the 2014 World Ex version.
Am I the only one who actually prefers the choreography of POTO over Chopin? I think POTO is pretty well choreographed to the music. The music cut can be better though. There seems to be 6 or 7 different pieces of music cut together. I think 3 pieces of music would be sufficient. Also, the vocal goes on then off a few times, which is kind of distracting. But overall, IMO the choreographer did a good job given the music cut.

I have mixed feelings about the choreography of Chopin SP. IMHO, Chopin ballade 1 is not suitable for choreography purpose. It was hard for me to visualize any moves that can capture the shape of the music. The jumps in figure skating are too powerful for this type of lyrical classical music. Yuzu’s jumps are light. But the jumps are still powerful jumps and they seem kinda out of place in lyrical music.

Do you guys think Yuzu will skate to some kind of Samurai music in the future? I don’t think anyone can be a better samurai than Yuzu.

Yep. He's like: 'the only thing this guy can do in terms of interpretation is raising his arms'. And then at some point the girl points out how the 2T with the arms aloft after the 3lz looks pretty and he's like 'well it's not really hard to do and a triple would be better'. And I'm like 'oh can you just shut your trap, no one asked you!' ^^

Sorry but I'm completely in love with his Chopin SP: the one at GPF gave me chills. I think it is very well choreographed because Chopin's music is both light and powerful, just like Hanyu's skating, and the jumps help highlight the ethereal beauty of it because the whole thing seems smooth and seamless.

I also like POTO's choreography very much but I'm still more impressed by the 'training version' of it. I'm also waiting for a performance that will combine the COC version's emotions with the GPF's technical quality :D (that would be close to perfection!)

I do think the Chopin choreography still works because it's Yuzu skating to it. Because he is light and elegant and he always skates to the music. So his style actually suits the music. But somehow I thought the choreography would not look so good if the same program is skated by another skater.

I used to make joke about Chopin, that his music is too effeminate (Chopin is my least favourite composer, along with Debussy and Rach, lol). But to be fair Chopin has many musical piece that are very powerful and I think his ballade no 1 is one of those. :) I remember Jeff once said he chose this music because he think it's so Yuzuru, the perfect piano music for him. I think Chopin SP shows another side of Yuzuru that we haven't seen. He can be classical IMO. That's amazing!

Just image if that were for Javi... lol

Okay that was pretty funny!
and i kind of get why the lady said that his 3lz2t was pretty and it was not because of its difficulty like what the man thought, i think it was because he jumped it in time/in tune with the music which made the lady praised it.

:agree: i love how his feet kind of plays with the notes(?) of the music as someone said from his/her post after seeing the program.

I've always thought Yuzu can be classical. He has a soft appearance but great strength within, so he has the versatility to adapt to different styles of music. It's just that many classical music pieces were not written for dance or skating purposes. It might just be me comparing it with dance choreography.

Can Japanese posters please help me with this information: i've read some where saying when Yuzuru was still in high school he got All 5 or something like that. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B7qamj6CIAAd74M.jpg:large
I don't know much about Japanese school system so I can't tell for sure. But it seems All 5 is a good result in high school? I know it's a school for young athletes so the standard might not be too high. But it's good to know he and his family value education that much.

Hi Meoima
I work in education in Japan so I can answer your question. Junior high and high school students are graded on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being best and 1 the worst. Test scores are equated with one of the band scores.
If a student scores:
less than 35 points = 1
36-49 points = 2
(1 & 2 are generally considered to be failing scores.)
50-64 points =3
65-79 points =4
80-100 points =5.
There may be some slight variations from school to school but this is the general format that all school aged children get on their report cards. So if Hanyu got all 5s then he scored between 80 and 100 points on the test for those subjects.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much. :) Finally I can understand the "all 5" reference. I know his high school was for young athletes so the standard might be lower than typical high schools but for sure his results can still be considered "okay" even if he studied in those schools I guess.
Since in his school he was technically straight A, with a higher standard he might be straight B and that's not too shabby given his busy schedule with competitions and training. :yay:

dailymotion has just deleted the video. it seems vimeo is still the better and more friendly upload site I am afraid.

I'm testing my theory with this video after my last sochi video was deleted as well~ apparently no matter what wording I use it won't survived XD I will try to reupload later on niconico or vimeo. :bang:

Okay let's try this again. Following Meoima advice I reupload the French-canada commentary that Terrapin translated to Vimeo. Hopefully it will stay this time ^^;;

On the other topic.. Glad to know Yuzuru is recovering well!

Glad that Yuzuru is doing well, still wishing for a complete recovery!

Thank you all for the videos and translations.
