Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I agree he looks super skinny there, but maybe because we never really see him in a sweater before? I don't know how recent this is, they might have just taken the tape off his chin since he is filming a CM, or this was done before the season and the wine sweater is just a costume to fit with the theme.

For those of you who probably doesn't know, in Japanese culture Valentine's day is the day that female gives male chocolates, while White Day, which is March 14th, is the day the male retursn the favor. Usually it's of course symbolic of affection but there is the well-known "friendship chocolate" which the girl gives chocolate to everyone (in the class etc.)

I believe those three girls are all spokesperson for the same brand of chocolate, and they wrote messages of support. (as well as in the video) Hanyu-san was thanking them for their hard work writing with chocolate and he said that their support has been received and he will do his best to have performances that give people smiles in the future too.

He was reminiscing about the time when he was in the skating club, where most students were girls so he would get their "friendship chocolates". So therefore he would have to think "oh now I have to give chocolates back to all these girls on March 14th!" which is a big task.

Very rough translation but I hope it helps somewhat.

Regarding the ankle injury, I think that unfortunately athletes performing at his level all have some kind of injury going on. They all know they everyone is battling some kind of injury so it is rarely mentioned. I distinctively remembered one competition where Kozuka was interviewed after his performance and the reporter prompted/asked him about his injury. He said well, it's not at a level that it needs to be mentioned. So I don't think we should jump to any conclusions regarding whether it's serious or whether or not he is going too hard or not taking care of himself.

Seriously, every time I come here its either a :hopelessness::cry: fest or :party2: party. Its like there's no medium with this kid :slink: Can't believe he re-injured himself again after just getting over his other 2-3 injuries. Hoping its just a minor thing and won't be too much of a burden.

In that V-day video he looks great though. That a great color on him and maybe its because I haven't seen his face in a while but wow! He looks so mature (compared to his usual baby faced self) :drama: Please take good care of yourself Yuzu, you still have 3 more years to go till 2018....

Personally I don't think sprained ankle is too serious (even though it's chronic already). There're 5 weeks until WC and he can heal before that I think. What I'm more worried is his lack of training, the issues with 3lz3T, 4S and levels of spins and steps. He needs to fix them if he wants to do his best at WC. Without proper preparation, suitable adjustment in the choreography, transitions... it will be difficult for him. And those choreographic adjustment he couldn't fix by practice alone without the help from his coach and choreographer.

Thank you for making it clearer :)

maybe the clip was shot recently: http://seobiiiiieluv.tumblr.com/post/110859487952/well-thats-interesting-according-to-a-tweet-i
Well that’s interesting. According to a tweet I just saw the recent Ghana Valentine CM was probably shot last week. Apparently Tsuchiya Tao (I think she has a new hairstyle too) posted on her blog that she met Suzu and Airi after a long time again on 8th and 9th February (the other girls that appeared in the CM together with Yuzu). So Yuzu had to shoot this at a later time (~10th February).

I think you are now over the top Meoima ;) He don't have any problems with level on steps and spins, he was almost every time this season getting level 4 on everything. I don't think he has that big problem with lutz. The only question mark is 4S, but we didn't have oportunity to really see how it is because how this season turned out. He is not the one to be catching other. Others must catch him, and they are quite distance behind him

He lost levels on spins and steps at Nationals (especially the SP), if it were not his fault then I'd say tech panel was smoking something behind those boards. But I don't want to think that Japanese tech panel was holding him down in the spin and step level, so let's assume it's his fault for not hitting those levels. Maybe the lack of training was the result?

And yes, he has no problem with the luzt in the LP but he hasn't hit 3lz3T the whole season, and he only has 1 competition to go, can he fix that 3lz3T before WC? More importantly can he get it back? His 3lz3T was wonderful at Sochi and Saitama so it's not hopeless I know. The point is he needs adjustment to get it back.

And I am just talking about his issues, regardless of how other skaters do, even if he gets better results than them, his issues remains his issues and of course I hope to see him fix them well.

I have just rewatched his practice videos at CoC before the collision, and he was having so many troubles by then already. 4S rarely done, 4T done but not good enough, 3lz3T not even done once... it was so obvious that he lacked practice by that time. He gets better as the season goes. I hope he will be better at WC but it can only happen with proper preparation.

thanks for translation!! omg poor guy worrying about how he is gonna give them back :laugh2:

I was in Junkudo to get Yuzuru's Photobook and there are so many magazines with him on the cover...There was even a March issue, Sports Training or something, sorry I did not get the name down but there seem to be no article about him inside. I couldn't help gushing on the pictures... It makes me not miss home since I will be here in Japan until April. The Hanyu Yuzuru Hokoritakaki Nihonjin no Kokoro wo Sodateru Kotoba is not official right? It does not have his signature in the inside pages unlike Aoi Honoo, Commemorative Stamps and the Photobook.

if Yuzu trains in Sendai rink on Valentine Day he'll receive tonnes of chocolate then he'll need at least ten trucks to give it back in March!:laugh2:

It's cute to watch a video of him (in-directly) accepting chocolate from girls, but I couldn't help to laugh for some reason. For White Day, I wonder how everything will turn out for him ... even this V-day I wonder how much chocolate he'll receive (rooms full??). I hope that's a good motivation booster for him!

Then Yuzuru will fly with the 'tons of chocolate' and that 'tuna' to Toronto, and Cricket will have huge sushi and chocolate parties for days and days. How about this idea?
Oh, no! Javier and Nam, and of course Yuzuru must keep in shape until World, so they can't gain any single pound.
A couple of online news services added another part of Ms. Kobayashi's interview, and she said Yuzuru is still keen to compete in World.
His condition, maybe, isn't too bad, I hope.

In Japanese Twitter, many are twitting about a discussion between Mr. Orser and Ms. Kobayashi now.
"B.Orser turned to be right..." "Yuzuru's going back to Canada next week..." etc.
But I can't find the source. Please help me find the truth.
