Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Okay...according to the latest news, Yuzu's ankle is still not completely healed. He is slowly increasing training and doing final adjustments.

Meoima, I didn't see your post before I posted.....
v2 means victory x 2. It means he wants to defend his title.

They are not revealing exactly what kind of training he is doing (like if he is jumping quads etc) to protect him from unneeded pressure. -statement from Kobayashi

Good for them.

Basically, Ms.Kobayashi of the JSU said as follows; "the condition of his right ankle is not perfect, but [Yuzuru] has been gradually increasing the amount of training and doing the final preparations in Japan towards the Worlds... I cannot disclose the details of his training, although I am aware of them. The amount of pressure on him is immeasurable since his condition is not perfect while the public expectations for him are so high. I would like to support him in a way not to give him pressure...". She didn't say whether Yuzuru is jumping the quads, either.

Ms Kobayashi from JSF spoke on Yuzuru Hanyu’s condition on 18th. She said “his condition is not perfect, but he has been increasing the amount of practice and he is at the final stage of his conditioning.”
Hanyu, who went though a surgery at the end of last year had started his training, but sprained his right ankle in the end of January. He was going to go to Toronto, but will remain in Japan until the competition.
Whether he has been practicing quads or other details of his training was not revealed by Ms. Kobayashi. She told the reason for that was to protect him from excessive stresses and pressures.

And more:

Ms. Kobayashi, who spoke with Hanyu (and his team) on the phone on the 17th told that though she heard about the details of his training, she could not talk about that. “While people’s expectation is high, his condition is not perfect and the pressure he feels is immeasurable. I would like to support him so that he would not receive any further stress.” She did not reveal whether he had resumed practicing quad jumps or not.

At least the Japanese Fed is shielding and protecting him from the public scrutiny. It's the least they can do after forcing him into 100000 ice shows last summer.

Thanks for the updates. I don't think Yuzuru has ever skated this season in "perfect" condition, and sadly it seems Worlds will be no exception. Not a broken leg, but an ankle injury (sprain?), which is bad enough. Now I have mixed emotions as to the coming Worlds. I cannot deny I am excited to see him skate again after nearly three months, but I am also terribly anxious for him. If only we can, as Simon Reed once said, wrap him up in cotton wool. But what we can only do as his fans is wish him all the best and pray for him. I know I will.

Not great news but not that bad either... but honestly, guys, was there REALLY someone here who thought he'd be healed and good before the WC? Not me.
He'll face injuries/health pb just like he did this whole year (and past seasons) and whether or not it will work out... We'll know soon enough. I wish the best for our little ice prince. Even if I want him to keep his title, I, more than anything else, want him to enjoy the competition and have no regret no matter what.

Same here. It seems to be somewhat serious about his current condition...I hope that it’s just a needless fear.
Come to think of it, I have been worried about his health especially this season and I will have to continue worrying about him, what a year, as some fans say, It’s not easy at all being Yuzuru fan, I am not complaining, I mean if it is the fate of anyone to be a fan of the kind of athlete like him I would rather accept it without reluctance better than give up. sigh.

Well, so worry now. Because when someone say "not perfect" or "not 100%", it seldom means "ok" or "90%". Actually it refers to "50%" "not so good" or better "acceptable". Last time at NHK there were an announcement like this, and we all could see that he was really not at good level.

Hope he can make the choice for his health and don't push too hard.

1st of all welcome homeshadow!! :cheer:
2nd, i like to believe that they arent saying too much because they dont want people to expect too much and put pressure on him, there is still more than a week till men's competition, best we can do it to have faith in him support him and to be behind him every step of the way :cheer:

Very true. What we only can do now it's to wish him the best ^^

I think this time JSF and the media are presenting it in the right way, informing the public that Yuzu is not at his best right now. That way, there is a bit less pressure of expectation on him.
And if he does well, then everyone is even more pleased, and if he does badly, people will be understanding.
The majority of viewers just want Yuzu to be happy and well.

Better condition than I thought. Moria's broken legs comment scared me. I feel like we are the ones that are producing the "immeasurable pressure" on him. It's good that JSF and Yuzu's coach are cautious when talking to the media now. Because everything you say to the media gets released to the public, and it may add unnecessary expectation and pressure on him. We can only wish him well and whatever placement he gets at WC is whatever he gets.

So what should we expect to see in the worlds? The Yuzuru in NHK trophy 2014 or the one GPF Barcelona? I really can't decide from the knowledge of the news. And I do not really care a lot. As long as I can see him skate again since almost 3 months I will be happy:biggrin:.
And the best thing for me is really simple: that Orser will still sit beside Yuzuru with the Pooh in Kiss&Cry.

What worrys me the most is not how he will perform this time. It's if his injury will ever stop in the future. I've been a sports fan for a long time and seen some great talented athletes affected by their injuries so that they can never perform the best of them or can only perform well and suffer every now and then. I really hope that this will not be the case for Yuzuru.

^Hanyu has the potential to be legendary, and it'd be a shame if his raw talent and strenuous effort were hampered by injuries.

I don't expect miracles again (already got that at GPF) and I will be perfectly happy if he just shows up at all. I just don't want *him* to be disappointed, and I hope he is aware enough of what his body is capable or not capable of. Now I know he is a superb sportsman, so I am not really worried about that. :-)

If he is on form, by all means, he should go for it. If not, hope he doesn't do anything too extreme and gives that medal to Denis Ten or someone else deserving of it, plz. Arigatou. ;-)

Same here. I'm more worry of the cumulative injuries and whether there's any side effect of the CoC collision long term. At this point I'm not too invested in Worlds and who's going to win it. All I want is for Yuzu to be healthy mentally and physically so he will be able to live long and happy live. I'm praying that JSF will rest him off season this year.

Reminding me of Dai-chan. I am not Dai's fan, but seeing him struggling with injuries to get a place for sochi made me a bit sad. He used to be so good and the king of figure skating in Japan. I can understand why Oda cried during that sochi interview when he saw Dai. He knows what Dai has been through all these years.
