This is what happens when I go to school and take a test....Lots of things happened.

I hope Yuzuru doesn't get timid by the ice here cause well....you know....

I'm seriously wondering if I can watch the livestream for the men's event.

Copy from user yude from other forum. Yuzuru comment after practice
Three months have passed since Japanese nationals and lots of things happened, but I could finally be in the condition to get ready to perform in front of you people. First of all, I am happy for that."
He started serious practice in March, he said he had impatience, too.

Thanks everyone for the updates !!. I think we shouldn't worry too much, it's practice after all and the first one since he arrived so let's try to stay postive ;)

He looks more filled out and healthy, weight-wise, doesn't he? Still Yuzu-thin, but not too thin, like it was in December.

Tbh in Barcelona I was surprised that Yuzu didn't look that thin live...I mean...of course he's slim but when you compare his build to other skaters - all of them are thin.

:agree:

expecially thigh muscles
Don't forget the pecs... -Sheepish smile-
I'm new btw, so hi to everyone. Been lurking for a while but it's getting too intense now. Eek! I really hope this will be a celebration thread soon (no matter the outcome), fingers crossed!

Welcome, welcome! We are dramatic sometimes, but we mean well. Cheers for another Yuzu-fan. :cheer:

Remember the British commentator once said “he is not physically strong…yet” when he was 17.  From a teenager to a grownup man his build definitely will be bigger and more robust. In 2018 he should be in peak condition physically (finger crossed no injuries please!) at age 23.

Of course, staying home for months with great food contributes to the weight gain...

Q&A with Yuzuru Hanyu

After the official practice (on 24th in Shanghai), Hanyu replied questions with a relaxing look on his face and occasional smiles.

--How do you feel now?
“I feel like I came back (where I was), well I am nervous being surrounded by the media (reporters) like this for the first time in a while. It has been three months since the nationals and many things have happened and I am in the condition in which I can be in front of you guys to perform. I am happy just for that.”

--How is your sprained right ankle?
“I am able to skate like this. To me, it (=the injury) is not a problem at all.”

--How did you train?
“I was hospitalized for two weeks after the nationals, receiving the surgery. I did not go onto a rink for 4 weeks after the surgery, instead I was resting at home to recover. Afterwards I resumed skating and since I was rushing (to catch up), I sprained my ankle. I took 2 more weeks to rest and have been practicing slowly.

--This is the rink where you had the accident at the COC.
“I cannot say the memory does not come back to me. While skating today, I remembered that like “yeah, I had that, didn’t I?” But it doesn’t not concern me as much as you all think. That is something happened in the past. Now I want to do what I am capable of doing now.

He's happy with how he trained from what I heard, it's way more than what I can ask for. He's healthy (in terms of the ankle) and not that affected by skating at the rink of the accident. If he has performances he's happy with it will be a good competition regardless of the result. And that picture of him smiling leaning on Pooh is great news by itself

Thank you! Look forward to being part of the thread :yay: I would have been disappointed if there wasn't at least a little drama on the yuzu thread.... he deserves it! And it's kinda stressful being his fan sometimes :drama:

As for Yuzu's physique and weight atm - personally i think it's mainly muscle gain and that it's due to extra pilates type exercises done throughout his recovery - being off ice with the ankle sprain the opportunities for high intensity, and frequent sessions of cardio (like the ones he was doing before) would be slim and/or very different to what he was doing before. Therefore to stay in shape you've got to do the other things, focusing on strength and conditioning as well as the mental side, so that when you get back into training and on the ice there's not much more than an adjustment period to work through.

I think he looks good; healthy and more fully grown, almost as if his body had time to go "guess what!? I'm a MAN now". :)
