I wouldn't call pops "fails", it makes it sound more severe than it actually is. As many skaters do, he might just pop some jumps intentionally for whatever reason. The 4S pop on the other hand, is definitely not intentional but also nothing unusual
Actually, he sounds in pretty good shape and not training too hard (unlike, for instance, COC where after the SP he was apparently training like an Angry Quad Demon).I wouldn't exaggerate or worry especially over a rather typical practice. Positive energy!

It's just practice. For me it looks more than I expected. It's actually amazing he can land most of quads despite almost no real training before this competiton
The only time he had totally extroadinary practices was at olympics where he was not missing any jump at all , but it means nothing when it comes to real competition

wait until if he decides to join WTT or not
I hope JSF spared him for WTT and sent other skaters instead. They need to let him fully healed :yes:.

And yes, let's not worry too much about how the practices go. Sure, he SO and fell a few times, but so what? That's not because you make a perfect practice or one with flaws that it's gonna reflect what will happen during the competition.

I don't find it worrying at all. Still a couple of days before competition... and his practices often don't seem very good, yet he nails stuff when it matters in the competition. GPF was a good example.
He thrives under pressure, and he draws energy from the full crowd - he gets neither of those at the practices.
By the way, I think 4CC set the scene for a new world record. Denis Ten was the clear winner at 4CC, and he got a HUGE score for a FS performance that (just my opinion) didn't really get going until he'd done his quads, and was not quite perfect in various spots later on. His total score was just 5.8 points shy of the world record!
If they continue that level of scoring at Worlds, I think Denis, Yuzuru, Javier have a good shot at breaking the WR - and Hanyu has the best chance of them all. Because if he skates as well as he did at GPF (but doesn't fall on his Lutz)... I think he should out-score Denis' 4CC performance that was so close to the world record. And IMO he'd still out-score Denis, even if Denis irons out the little wrinkles he had in his 4CC performance.
Different story if Denis adds another quad though, which apparently is a possibility. If (!) Denis could land a clean extra quad jump, he'd be the favourite for a new WR. It's a big "if" though... he looked like a wreck after his 4CC free skate - flat on his back, exhausted. So I'm not sure he's got the stamina to add another quad. Actually I'm not sure he can even repeat that 4CC performance...

Yes, with clean skates Yuzuru has the highest scoring potential, but let's not put expectations too high, let's just hope for the best he can do right now

Yuzuru had less pressure on by that time IMO since no one expected him to do well. I agree his practices don't seem to be good often. The problem it seems, is that he struggles when the music is on. When there is no music, he seems to do well, which means it's the timing that he has problem with. Can he fix it soon? I don't know and I can't tell. Yuzuru is always unpredictable.
At this point, with 2 months off ice and just 2 weeks preparation for the biggest competition of the year with ankle not fully healed and others are doing very well, I'd say I only wish that he will skate to the best of what his current health allows him to do. I hope after this he will refuse WTT for a long rest. I don't even hope for high result.

Just like at the GPF, not many expect him to do well here. Look for articles about the men's field (not the prediction threat here, but actual articles), not many are putting him in gold. He's been shielded of a lot of pressure thanks to JSF (finally!). He may feel the pressure of the three spots, but that's always been with him since he became the top skater in Japan so it's not a foreign feeling to him.
And I'm actually positive (or naive) enough to believe they won't make him go to WTT. No one really cares about that competition and normally the lower ranked skaters are the ones who go. If it was not taking place in Japan, I'd be almost sure. Let's just keep hoping for the best

looking at the postings, pics, exerpts, from practice, there seems to be a positive stoicism to a degree that I don't recall seeing in him before. mentally, he seems really there, accepting of himself, his limits and trying to figure out how to match those limits to a perfect performance. it seems to be a transformed Yuzuru because it was not so long ago he never seemed to accept limits. Since CoC, he has evolved into a more mature skater skating more strategically to what his body will permit. we all know that whatever happens, wherever he comes in, there are going to be beautiful moments. I hope he skates cleanly (as well I hope that for all of the skaters) and wins (Yuzu gold), but just seeing him well with himself after everything that has happened this season is enough to make my day.
