Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Yes! I read comments of people who thought he was going to have to drop the Ina Bauer and the Biellmann after the surgery, but it actually seems as if it improves every time!

Yes!! Thats probably partly because he becomes more expressive with it? I felt that his ina Bauer has been improving in terms of expressiveness a lot like when you compare his 2010-2011 season to like now!!

Kind of bringing up already-discussed things here, but if you could choose Yuzuru's music for next season, what would you pick for SP, LP, and EX? I can't really decide right now, but when I do I'll add my input ^^

I kind of want a different kind of program. But I don´t know what kind of music.

Something Jazzy would be nice. After watching his step sequence in Chopin I think he could do great with a tango program.

Noooooo....I don't want to see a tango for Yuzu.

I'd like a Japanese-ish program. An anime theme song or something.

I completely agree!! Seriously, I thought the ina bauer in his WTT FS was so breathtaking, I actually had to repeat it a few times before I could get over it. I love the arc he makes on the ice (strangely enough, I don't really see other skaters doing the ina bauer that way?), and I especially love the movement of his arms with it.
About Ina Bauer, many skaters bend backwards in this move, but actually it is not required, they can do it in an upright position. The main focus on the Ina Bauer is NOT the back bend but the quality of edge a skater can achieve while keeping the back leg straight. With outside Ina Bauer, it is not too difficult to do on a slight outside curve, but you need extraordinary turnout in the hips and huge amount of strength to do Ina Bauer that draws almost a circle on the ice, especially without slowing down the speed.

This is why many people call Yuzuru's Ina Bauer the most impressive because he holds the Ina Bauer position the longest in the field. I have seen no one, be it man or lady, has such a long Ina Bauer as Yuzuru.

Most skaters only keep Ina Bauer position for like one or two second. Yuzuru can do it in 8-10 seconds. Here you can see his longest Ina Bauer he kept from back bend to upright position: https://youtu.be/Iy7ykIz96m4?t=1m59s

About Ina Bauer, this move is not defined by the back bend; it is just a feature that a skater can add for extra effect. Even if a skater has good back bend, that doesn't mean they are good at Ina Bauer.

Thanks for your info! That's very helpful for us in understanding the beauty of yuzu's ina Bauer more!

Actually there was a picture of him reading Shonen Jump (I think) and he later told in an interview he liked Kuroko. About 2 years ago I think.

Thanks! So maybe he can still do anime music? Coz I thought a lot of people also watch animes overseas?

Sometimes. The problem is you don´t get all the animes. You must pay for stream service like Crunchy roll or Funanimation, and I don´t think Yuzuru does. Maybe he has cable but I don´t imagine he will watch much.

And in regular channel it will be anime traslated to english, so I don´t think he is a fan of those.

  • Remember the little girl who wore the Chopin costume? Here's the full outfit , and they also made a girl version of Nam and Javi's as well!
  • There's a set of Yuzuru Line stickers
  • Bonus: Yuzu with David :) (I think this was posted? Or not? lol Don't remember, but I just love seeing them together~ Probably from CoC or Shanghai judging by the pass.)

He said its due to him not having time to gather enough speed going into the combo. It has a difficult entry/steps going into it and he says that its due to his "lack of skill" that he fails on the 3T. The timing of the music (and injuries) probably effect it as well...:

Thanks! Timing and speed were the key..
I realized how difficult the entry and steps were.
Yuzu said 3T fall is due to his lack of skill... He’s too hard on himself..

The 3lz3T issue in SP has a lot to do with the timing and choreography (difficult to jump on the right note). He admitted he has troubled with accelerating speed for the lutz in SP. I guess had he been to Canada and asked Jeff to adjust the choreography he might have done it better.

Most strong lutz jumper hates the flip, even Liza hates the flip. Gracie has strong lutz and bad flip, Elena and Radionova the same. Even Yuna lipped now and then when she still competed (eh I hope her fans don't kill me, just an example okay, she is the best lutz jumper). Most Russian men avoid the flip.

I think the fact that Yuzuru still goes for flip is appreciated a lot by the judges and ISU (for a balance layout). So unless in the future he adds 4Loop to LP, the flip will stay, for at least the next season I suppose. And his flip is actually not bad at all. Aside from the quads, the flip is his third highest triple after the axel and the lutz. :p

I don’t know the difficulty of achieving both flip and lutz.
True, some skaters avoid one of them…

The recommendation of a balance layout by ICU didn’t come to my mind.
He’s appealed his jamp skill to execute all kinds of triple, and 2 kinds of quad.
He won’t throw flip!
And I relieved you said his flip was not so bad.

Edit: the Chopin dress is so cute!!
Now I want those stickers too!!

Thank you for sharing!

I also love David and Yuzu.
I cannot forget David kissed yuzu’s hand:p. R&J2 costume he was wearing at that time was beautiful…
