Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I'm sure we can tolerate our ihys attacks for the sake of seeing a better prepared and trained yuzu next season:)

besides we already (barely haha) managed to survive 3 months without any news at all this season:laugh:

also did anyone notice at the video around 1 min mark, nam was pretending as if yuzuru hit him on the head?

I speculate, he will train a month or so, get 1 new program, come to Japan for spring and summer shows, and then go back and finish training and one more new program. .

I think this is the most probable case. I hope he won't do many shows, until then I'm glad he is already in Toronto ^^

Oh, how I want Yuzuru to go to CoR again (cuz I live here) but I even don't dream of it :rolleye: And I think you shouldn't be afraid about Yuzuru at CoR cuz public at GPs is much more knowledgeable about FS then it was at Olympics and we have a lot of Yuzuru's fans here :)
My bet is at NHK and SC so I'm seriously thinking about going to GPF this time :)

Actually I kinda hope he go there too. Maybe not this season, next year or the year after would be great. Since I think Russia is a lucky place for him and I do hear that he is popular there. So let's hope they will change the time schedule of GPs for next two seasons so that COR will not be so close to NHK trophy.

But wait now I realize he may only have the chance to go to three GPs in the future other than NHK trophy. He might not even cover all of the GPs in these four years! Darn it. :slink:

So he ninja-ed his way back to Toronto already?

@Newbiespectator, you're getting me so excited for his new programs :drama:

LOLSS! I didn't notice that until now! That's funny!

Now we know he will try for 3 quads in the LP, I think he should not do the third quad in the second half as he injured himself by that quad. I hope if he tries it next season it should be like this:
4S, 4T, 4T2T all in the first half
Then: 3F-3A3T-3A1lo3S-3Lo-3lz

His original layout of this season was to put 4T2T in the second half, I don't know if I am thrilled about that idea. Yuzuru is no Javi or Kovtun who are strong genetically to put up with 3 quads. :hopelessness: Please anyone tell him...

I hope he will go to GP series that he has not yet get gold medal. It will be heroic when he win all the GP series events. And sweet bonus if he can get revenge in 4CC too :cheer:

I doubt it. The one thing that has never changed in his layout is the placement of his flip lol. As far back as 2007, the flip has always been in his first 3 jumping passes (maybe even further back then that) :laugh2: He'd probably rather put 2 quads in the 2nd half then put a single flip in the back. ;)

I don't think we need to worry about he putting quad in second half. He's already and keep improving his stamina. We can see he no longer gasping for breath at the end of his fs this season. And when he indeed slowed down his pace in the latter half of his programs that's mainly because he was not in top shape and/or because he was being careful not make mistake in his jump.

Yes, this! :laugh2: Seems like he'd rather do and be done with that 3F ASAP and carry on with the rest of other jumps.

I vote for him just try as much quads as he wants as long as his coaching team allow him, even if I personally really don't think that in any world he will be able to handle clean performances back to back with 3 clean quads, 2 3A combos plus amazing and intricate choreo (better choreo than his LP this season) etc at this point. I know some people like to play saying that he's an alien, but he's still just a human skater in the end, there's some limits. The guys that are trying 3 quads right now have much more stamina than Yuzuru has and also don't even have as much as content as Yuzuru in their programs (I'm not even talking only about 3As but everything else, only Javier has more transitions but Kovtun ...) and well, not even them can complete their own programs. We shouldn't underestimate the impact that adding a quad to a program has on everything, both physically and psychologically.
Yuzuru is just too bloody ambitious to not try that. So if he will try eventually, chances are that if he bombs at his first events he will learn from his error and that's it. He will only learn if he tries, there's no other way. Then we will see what he will do after. He knows he can win with 2 quads, he's just putting that quad for the sake of it, so there's no stopping him.

My concern is if the bombing happen (I mean more than just falling at 3rd quad, but compromising the rest of the program) and he keeps insisting like he did with the 4S. If he falls on the 3rd quad he wil keep insisting on that damn 3rd quad and then it will transform into the infamous 4S fall 2013-2014 season 2.0 - 4T version and there's nothing we can do about it. Our anxiety will just extend to the second half of the program. But if the rest is also compromised, then it's a red light.

I'll just pray quietly that he won't win anything with 3 rotated yet not landed quads ...

About the speculation, C'mon, it's off-season (!) What are we supposed to do during this time if it isn't speculating everything and end up getting absolutely nothing right :laugh2:

I actually think that it's best for him to have the 3F in the first half since he often has unclear edges on that jump, his technique is better when he's not tired yet, so it may be best to get it out of the way. Before the surgery, his 4T was textbook perfect, it came almost as natural as his 3A, and he surely will be working on getting it back. And he normally has spins and step sequences as a kind of break in between to get some breathing space (if one can call it thay way) while the second half begins. Therefore he can prepare for the 4T. He may not need the 3rd quad right now, but at the rate that the younger skaters are developing (Pitkeev and Boyang doing all kinds of quads left and right), who knows if he will by 2018. So it's best for him to get used to a 3-quad FS already, just in case.
Besides, his team knows how much he can endure, I doubt they would incorporate a quad if they knew he would struggle too much with it, as that gives the program the potential to be a spectacular bombing. It could happen once but that's why he starts the season with B Challenger competitions like Finlandia, to get used to the program in a competition.
His stamina has also improved, he doesn't finish the FS lying on the ice, gasping for air, anymore. You can't ask for him not to get tired since that's impossible, but he doesn't end up as burnt out as before.
Random change in topic. Do you think he'll go to 4CC? Or do you think he'd rather focus on Worlds since that's where he'll face all of the strong competitors?

I think him not getting that tired after the free skate has a lot to do with having less transitions actually. RJ 2 was a much more complex program compared to POTO. Not that say that he didn't improve his stamina, maybe he did, but just another theory.

I think he will go to 4CC, he would have gone this season if it wasn't for the injury.

4CC? The cursed competition? I guess it'll depend on his health. I hope he can snag a 4CC title before he retires, but I have a nagging feeling that he's way more likely to win another GPF/Worlds/Olympics title before that happens.

POTO was designed for 3 quads so it has less transitions than Juliet 2.0 I think. Juliet 2.0 is definitely more difficult program with harder entries.

Honestly I think he hasn't improved his stamina. He is better than WC 2013 of course. But is he healthier than WC 2014? I think he's the same. It's just his mentality has become tougher he is better at standing on his feet after his performances.

I'm still very skeptical about 3 quads a LP for him. Hopefully Orser team will help him get some sense. As you know he injured badly because he tried 3 quads during the time of 4CC. I think he should try 3 quads (if he can handle) at Finlandia first to see how it goes. If not just come back to 3lz2T.

Yes, so that's why when POTO becomes a 2 quad program it's much less complex than RJ 2, less demanding. It's difficult to analyze improvement in stamina, would he be less tired now if he did a program similar to RJ 2? I don't think so. It's not fair to compare his state after RJ 2 with after POTO directly, they are two different programs.

And it's seems like a silly reason but his ending pose at RJ 2 (Juliet 2 k.) did him no favors, he was already near the ice. If he's tired, hell, why not just lay there already. After POTO he just put his hands at his knees, bend a bit and he's fine.

I'm always skeptical about this too but you know he will do it anyway. If he says so, let's see, probably at Finlandia, if he will handle it.

From my understanding, I think he got badly injured because he tried them too much too soon after his post-surgery recovery time. He wasn't ready there (and he pushed himself too much: maybe not being around Brian&Co didn't help either ;) ) but that doesn't mean he will never be ready.

It's quite hard from the outside to judge if he's strong enough to do it, last season has been quite an outliner (I hope, at least!) : he didn't manage to properly train during summer time 'cause of too many commitments (hopefully that won't be an issue this year); skipped Finland 'cause not ready yet; got badly injured at his first GP -> had to take time off (meaning his physical shape got a hit); got better for GPF+Nationals but had surgery just after -> physical shape got another hit. Tried to come back too soon and got hurt again -> new time off, physical shape hitting another stop...
So yes, judging from last season a program with 3 quads seems a bit of a stretch, but who knows how much better his physical condition and strenght would be without all those accidents. I have faith in his and Brian decision over the matter :P

(ps: sorry for my bad English, but it's not my first language ;) )

Welcome Lys :cheer:

Here's hoping Yuzu will have a good rest and recovered fully for next season (less ice shows please). I have faith in him to meet the challenges of new programs when he is 100% healthy.

I also think his stamina improved this year despite his not so ideal health condition.I noticed it even in CoC that despite his 5 falls he had the same speed in the second half of the program as he had in previous years in better health and without so many falls. As the season passed I thought he got better and better in that aspect and I don't think it was only the transitions since they're still quite difficult for many other skaters. It'm probably his muscle gain since he looks a lot more ''filed out'' than in previous seasons
And he's most likely gonna get even better as the years pass
