Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Yeah, until now, RJ1 is one and only for me. But now SEIMEI have the possibly to top it. Very exciting.

Not only that, but SEIMEI is felt like a pioneering program to me. I’m a sucker for Japanese traditional performance art like Nou,Kyougen(能、狂言) or Kabuki(歌舞伎). This program seems to get inspiration from them to some extent. Especially, Mansai Nomura (野村 萬斎)who portrayed Abeno Seimei in the movie is one of the leading Kyougen performers. I love him. If yuzu takes lessons from his performance, that’s very exciting. I went to see Mansai in the theater, and I astonished he had excellent posture, body balance, body movement. Of course, figure skate and Japanese traditional performance are totally different with each other. However, as some skaters and choreographers like Stephan or Mills is said to be the person who could mingle figure skate with ballet at high level, this program might open the door to some form of marrying of figure skating and some Japanese traditional art. It sounds like a big story, but I have such an expectation. Hahaha…

I think there is room for some polishing in this program. (I agree with you hamaguri ) In a way i wish for Yuzuru to meet with Mansai Nomura (野村 萬斎I) (and i hope they actually did meet). Even if one is a sportsman and another is an actor, they are both performers and there're always lots of things that can be learned from one another. As well talking about art in general, in a way everything interrelates with everything somehow.

Regarding not the final version for the costume, maybe he meant that the pants are being finished? I don't see how the shirt could be considered as "unfinished" except if he wants a change of color for the green, for exemple. I don't know. I suppose we'll know soon enough.

I've just remembered on June 15th (or 16th? ) GPS assignment will be announced. Another big event is coming. Oh no! :jaw:
Lol I forgot about that! I'm nervous too about assignments. All I've heard is that Liza wanted to go to TEB. Crossing fingers for Yuzu even if it's quite unlikely, at least for this coming season.

I am SO glad he chose this music. It may be unusual and difficult to listen and interpret, but it is so different than his last three FS (all of them being warhorses). Now he needs to keep his Chopin SP (or create another magical program like it) and he will be a totally complete skater with high jumps, fast spins, poweful interpretation and finally, great programs that showcase his ability to move the audiences and that will be completely new and artisticaly perfect.

I hope he pays more attention to 4S with this music. Something clicked with 4S and POTO music that he was right spot on with the timing . But it's very early, so hopefully it will be good for the start of the season

Thank you for all your reports and news about the free program :)
It really seems lovely, can't wait to see it fully

And now to wait for the short program: at this point I've really no idea what he will come up with :p

Finally reached the last post ! Lol
I'm not worried about the final version of the costume, and I must say I'm in love with the design of the sleeves. I agree with a poster who had said it looks a bit futurist :)
Now that this big wait is behind, lets wait the GP assignements ! This is worrying me a lot I cant help but hope for Yuzu in TEB even if I know I'll be probably disappointed :'( (Plumededragon did you put a candle everyday as I did? XD)
And after that the SP... I'm really curious to see what Yuzuru will bring... Any ideas ?

Part of me would like classic music again (first choice: Vivaldi, and before you kill me: NOT the Four seasons :laugh2: But I'd love for someone to skate to La follia or to La stravaganza), but I'm half expecting a modern upbeat piece. Umh... truth is, I've really no idea :laugh2:

Of course, I like modest Yuzuru, but, I love aggressive Yuzuru with a pride too

Well- said! I think this is a case to quote the words of Lizzie Bennet of "proper pride."

I would like this to happen too if it hasn't already to contribute to the authenticity of the program. It is always good for Yuzuru to get to meet another master of his/ her craft. Knowing him he will make the most of the opportunity.

When I first saw S. Dahlia 's videos of him (which you introduced us to in this thread), I immediately thought how at home he looked in traditional Japanese attire and how apt the bishounen description of his appearance is. And he certainly has the capacity to make his audience spellbound so his new program certainly fits him to a T.

I was also wondering whether he should keep his Chopin SP (he can return to his original jump lay-out and Jeffrey Buttle can make added refinements) so he'll have a somewhat secure base while mastering his new LP. This strategy worked for him in the Olympic year and was key to his winning the gold.

But that said, I also wouldn't mind a new SP (something upbeat) considering his public declaration he will be retiring in 2018. Hopefully by then he will have achieved his goal of becoming the "absolute Yuzuru Hanyu": the skater who is good at everything. :)

Yes! Their conversation will be greatly inspirational…
Now yuzu is a star with nationwide popularity. He could have influence on some trends in japan. In addition, Mansai will be delighted to know that Onmyouji music is chosen and there’s a chance for people including overseas to listen to Japanese music(邦楽) using Japanese fruit or drum, and have an affinity with Japanese performance art.

Lol I forgot about that! I'm nervous too about assignments. All I've heard is that Liza wanted to go to TEB. Crossing fingers for Yuzu even if it's quite unlikely, at least for this coming season.

I love TEB more for the beautiful blue-based venue and their mastery of spotlight! Yeah, I know Javi should have taken TEB, but I would like to see yuzu in TEB again..

How about tango, like libeltango? I heard some of funs had predicted it. Anyway, can’t wait to see!

P.S.My friend just went to see DOI today. She emailed me and said that in seimei performance, yuzu had created some divine atmosphere like in "Ise Shrine" (伊勢神宮) , which in the primary shrine in Japan….Awesome yuzu…

so much to catch up to as usual  thank you everyone for links and info and live report s9580!
his fall at spin is priceless haha, if we see nam fall similar way we can call it "Cricket Style"! , and i agree i got the futuristic wibe from costume as well, as for it being not final version, i wouldnt mind if they choose darker shade of green and silver blings instead of gold but thats me being picky because its kinda frustrating i couldnt find anything else to criticize
we all got used to him being humble all the time , when he says something like " I think, probably I'm the only one among Japanese competitive male skaters who can show this type of, Japanese taste program to this extent" it seems like big deal to us, but i totally agree with him, all the other japanese men ( maybe apart from shoma) have such a strong and masculine style compared to Yuzuru's fluid ( and delicate as mentioned) yet powerful style (and i am sure he didnt mean any offence at all),
i cant wait for next week, but even then we wont see full vesion of the program until season starts :bang:

As you said, it's still early. And it's not very practical to do a complicated FS (even if it's not the full version) with dim light and small rink. No worry, I'd say.^^

Finally reached the last post ! Lol

Candles, wishes on stars, you call it, I did! Even if there're preferences for the assignments, there're also draws skaters cannot escape, it's, well... very complicated to predict. But if, by hell lot of luck, we do get Yuzu at TEB, we'll need to get the tickets ASAP.

I have NO idea about the SP, seriously. If Yuzu hadn't chosen Japanese music for the FS, I'd have hoped for that, but now that we have it... mmm, honestly, I have no idea. I'd love to see him skating on TSFH, but I doubt it will be his choice, lol!
