i dont know if i am ready for Yuzuru vs Chan so early in the season :hopelessness: i hope he will break his rule of doing relatively poorly at teh beginning of the season and finds the right balance to be more consistent during the season

I'm just going to briefly hijack the thread. I don't think that will happen because it's not like the top guys have a bad technique, Yuzuru at most gets '!' On his flip and that penalty has been reduced (Javi the same with the Lutz, Patrick and Denis just struggle a bit with the 3A). They are the ones who can beat Jason and there is no way neither of them will be intimidated by this change of rules and stop doing quads (we got it first hand from Yuzu in that interview a few pages ago) And Jason doesn't have a perfect technique either (he struggles with the second 3A). And if we go by logic, the fact that he doesn't have quads makes him have more doubles, with lower BV, so even if he's safe in the quad-fall department, he can't make the most of it because of the doubles and easier triples. When you have skaters like Yuzuru and Javier going for 3 quads, even the greatest penalties for the quads will most likely not be enough to put Jason ahead (unless they have huge meltdowns). The difference in score at Worlds 2015 was too big to make this changes in rules significant (I think it was over 20 points with Yuzuru, even when Yuzu's LP had some major mistakes, and almost 20 at WTT) Vancouver caused a lot of controversy, so even if he skates at home at Worlds, I only see him medalling at the massive expense of Yuzuru, Javier, Denis and Patrick. I wouldn't worry too much about that, to keep this fan thread oriented, as much as I like Jason (he's very sweet) he's not one of the skaters that can reach Yuzu's numbers, even with these changes.

I honestly feel skaters have very limited choices on GP assignments. The hosts pick the skaters. IMO, Yuzuru is invited by SC not because he chose SC, but because SA would not invite him (they want to invite Denis to give Jason a better chance of qualifying to the final) and I don't think anyone wants him to compete at COC again. So he can only compete at SC. Javi got two easy assignments Coc and COR (he has almost no competitors at both events) because GPF is in Spain, they want him to qualify. Javi can't go to SA (Denis/Jason), SC (Yuzu/Patrick) or NHK (Yuzu). TEB is too close to COC. So he got COC and COR. Patrick can only go to SC and TEB because SA will not invite him (because of Jason), NHK will not invite him (because of Yuzu), COC and COR will not invite him because Javi will be there and they want Javi to qualify for the final. The only other option Yuzu can go to is TEB, but Patrick will be there too, so it makes no difference whether Yuzu faces Patrick at SC or TEB. I think if SC has to choose between Patrick facing Yuzu at SC or TEB, they will choose SC because Patrick will get some home ice advantage. And Denis will be at TEB, so Yuzu cannot be there, unless Denis goes to SA and SC, and Yuzu goes to TEB and NHK which is unlikely because SA and SC are back to back.

I think its because he wants to go against Patrick more so. I feel the only reason he didnt choose TEB as his second was because NHK choose him first.

I think it's because of Chan ..It's the same strategy Yuzu adopted in the Olys season....

Well, we shouldn't forget about the others. Takahito proved that he could win over a top man like Fernandez at SC 2014, Jason and Richard usually depends on how the top people do and Maxim is a wildcard, he could be unpredictable like last season GP series or a total bomb like at GPF, worlds, and wtt

I think my analysis makes sense though. Javi had almost no competitions (except Mura who won against Javi, to everybody's surprise) at both of his events last year either because GPF was in Spain last year.

I was referring to the fact that in the Olys season Yuzu competed against Chan at SC and at TEB (and lost in both cases).

That he wanted to compete against Patrick as many times as he could (since he was the man to beat). He lost to him twice (SC/TEB) but won against him twice after (GPF/Oly).
