Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Oh no... I would kill to be at NHK. Some of my favs in each category.
And to agree with a previous post, I don't see how a healthy Yuzu could get another thing than gold haha. But let's not bring the evil eye on him :)
SC will be interesting to watch.
Now that the GP entries are released I can't wait to see all those fights !

Did I get this correct ---> 4T/4S UR (8.0/8.1 and -GOE) worth more than 4T/4S fully rotated but fall (5.3/5.5). And 3A UR (5.9 and -GOE) almost the same as 4T/4S fully rotated but fall (5.3/5.5).

I think that (unfortunately) you did. What the hell are they doing with the rules? :bang:

Like I said in the other thread, they should have just done -2 or -3 for falls across the board (plus -GOE), and leave the URed BV as is. I don't get what they trying to accomplish with that change. They increased the penalty for wrong edges but supports UR's???? I have no problem with punishing falls, but I don't like the rewarding bad techniques. Plus, with the new GOE rules it just makes everything more complicated, especially for newer fans

They only changed the BV for UR 4T and 4S, but not other jumps. The BV for other UR triples and quads still has 70% of the original BV. But the UR 4T and 4S have close to 80% of the original BV. I wonder why they only target 4T and 4S. Now the BV for UR 4t and 4s (8.0, 8.1) are too close to the BV for UR 4Lo and 4F (8.4, 8.6), but 4Lo and 4F are much more difficult than 4T and 4S. So this will discourage skaters from attempting more difficult jumps.

I don't understand the logic. Maybe the change in BV for 3T and 3S has something to do with the change in BV for UR 4T and 4S.

Yup, I do not expect him to win anything till the GPF.

How can he possibly get a silver at NHK, how?

:laugh: I was about to ask the same, that would require some serious meltdown for Yuzuru to lose NHK, and I'm hoping he filled his quota of freaky accidents and meltdowns last season.

I honestly feel skaters have very limited choices on GP assignments. The hosts pick the skaters. IMO, Yuzuru is invited by SC not because he chose SC, but because SA would not invite him (they want to invite Denis to give Jason a better chance of qualifying to the final) and I don't think anyone wants him to compete at COC again. So he can only compete at SC. Javi got two easy assignments Coc and COR (he has almost no competitors at both events) because GPF is in Spain, they want him to qualify. Javi can't go to SA (Denis/Jason), SC (Yuzu/Patrick) or NHK (Yuzu). TEB is too close to COC. So he got COC and COR. Patrick can only go to SC and TEB because SA will not invite him (because of Jason), NHK will not invite him (because of Yuzu), COC and COR will not invite him because Javi will be there and they want Javi to qualify for the final. The only other option Yuzu can go to is TEB, but Patrick will be there too, so it makes no difference whether Yuzu faces Patrick at SC or TEB. I think if SC has to choose between Patrick facing Yuzu at SC or TEB, they will choose SC because Patrick will get some home ice advantage. And Denis will be at TEB, so Yuzu cannot be there, unless Denis goes to SA and SC, and Yuzu goes to TEB and NHK which is unlikely because SA and SC are back to back.

Wow, this is some serious math!

Anybody knows what is the BV for UR 4A? ....maybe Yuzu already landed a UR 4A :slink:

An UR 4A is worth the same as a 4S which is 10.5 (without taking -GOEs into account), he may have landed it at DOI, but he dived into the first row  (Thank goodness no one was hurt) The fall would have given him -4GOEs and would end up being worth less than a well executed 3Lz, not the best idea for a competition. I don't even know if trying a 4Lo is worth it anymore since, as it has been mentioned, the UR 4S and 4T are basically worth the same now as an UR 4Lo. But well, maybe Yuzuru doesn't really care about that and may want to keep improving.

ahh Farnaz, your husband sounds like amazing person, i hope you will have fun and witness his victory :cheer:
i dont know if i am ready for Yuzuru vs Chan so early in the season :hopelessness: i hope he will break his rule of doing relatively poorly at teh beginning of the season and finds the right balance to be more consistent during the season :cheer:

Well, somehow I'm sure he will beat Chan. And, yes, my husband is so amazing . He is still thirty years old but refers to Yuzuru as "my son" :laugh2:. Of course, I do the same too. Guess there's something wrong with our age.

Speaking of him diving into the audience, I wonder if it was this kind or this kind  Maybe they'll broadcast it lol..

The rink at DOI was small, no? I'm thinking whether he can land a UR 4A which will give him 10.5 and -GOE :slink:. Of course it is best to beautifully landed 4T and 4S.

But that DOI rink was small. Am i correct that 4A is 4.5 rev, I think he can already do 4 rev isn't it?

I once read here that he said he's a quarter of a rotation short in the 4A :confused2: I think that, even if he lands it with UR, the GOEs would not be good either, furthering affecting the value of the jump. Say he got -2, which would result in a -2.4 for a value of 8.1, the BV of the 3A is more than that (8.5), and Yuzu's might as well be the best in the field, he can get +3 across the board, resulting in 11.5 points. It would certainly be spectacular if he landed it, even if it's UR, but points-wise, I don't know if it's worth it, specially considering how dangerous it can be, he could land it, but there's a high risk. :ohwell:

I would kinda love it if Yuzu decided, post 2018, having won a bunch of gold medals, that now he can do whatever he wants without thinking of winning or medalling, just for the challenge of it, and do amazing things that are against rules or don't make sense points-wise. Underrotated 4A? Here you go. An invalid 3A-3A-3A sequence? Why not? That would be awesome to see.
