If I don't place my front upper teeth on top of my bottom lip, it comes out sounding like "B".)

Honestly I envy you, I wish I had an option of learning at least speaking Japanese to understand Yuzu when he's giving interviews.
You are completely right- some sounds are learned only if proper articulation technique is given to the language struggling speaker. Lips, tongue, teeth placement, etc are very important in this department.:thumbsup: Could you please tell me why "R" is a problematic sound? It's not like "R" is a non-existing sound in Japanese language?
 
I really love Hanyu-san's costume for his SEIMEI program. I love the little star detail on the back of the shoulder and the embroidery pattern that was take after the detail of the engravings in the Seimei shrine in Kyoto.
One part that often get criticized in Hanyu--san's costumes is that the costumes usually don't go well with the huge KJIH pendant of his necklace that he always wear. But this time, Hanyu-san's pendant really looks at home with the SEIMEI costume, the pendant accentuates the Japanese-ness of this costume. Hope the final version of the costume doesn't change much from the current model. :)

I think the main problem is distinguishing it from "L" sounds in English.

There are many sounds/syllables used in other languages, that simply do not exist in Japanese. Without proper training to learn those extra syllables, Japanese people will simply subsitute the nearest-sounding Japanese syllable instead. And the English "R" and "L" sounds typically both translate to the single Japanese "R" sound - they don't have enough sounds/syllables in Japanese, to make the distinction.

So eg. "Crowd" and "Cloud" both sound exactly the same to untrained Japanese ears.

And even if they learn to pronounce foreign syllables, it can still be very difficult to distinguish those sounds when listening to native speakers, and it's also easy to forget whether a particular word should use the "R" or the "L" sound...

I believe it's the same person who had Yuzuru wear Jason's "Cotton-Eyed Joe" costume and Jason Yuzuru's FTT costume and did the image of Yuzuru riding a penguin. As I said, Yuzuru has an imaginative and creative fandom. :)
