Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

After my first sadness that Yuzu is in pain, my next thought was OMG TV Asahi paid soooo much for the broadcasting rights.
BTW, welcome Matmuh.

I think if TV Asahi is smart or professional enough to make some conditions in the contract to avoid such things happened.....
If not....i can only pray for them....

X-ray, sorry. I have just done some reasearch as well. It seems myofascial pain is chronic but it's in his muscle and massage is the popular treatment. But sometimes they have to do surgery in severe case as well (to inject pain killer) I hope he will be alright. Since he has to withdraw I think it might be serious. But maybe his family and team advised him to rest before the real season starts. Hope so hope so!
I'm sure they've done X-ray too because he's a top athlete, you can't risk and get a wrong diagnosys with him. I think he was super worn out, wanted to do a s much as he could for his country, for damaged areas, fulfilling all the obligations and skating in maximum shows. He is like that. He is responsable, humble and generous. And he came back to Canada and thought- the season is coming, I need to work hard, I'll do my best and kept on pushing himself despite the limits. He's a kind of perfectionist that would tolerate pain for the sake of the glorious win. Top athletes are like that. And we all remember Romeo roaring during Worlds 2012, right? He has to have a quality rest, build in his stamina gradually, he needs time. It is sad he has a back issue but I'm sure his therapists would do their best for him to fully recover bofore Cup of China. Honestly- we've been waiting for the entire summer to see his Phantom- we can wait a bit more. I want him healthy and happy. He wants to win- good. Let those wins be glorious!:)

JSF just annouced Yuzu's withdraw from Finlandia due to "Myofascial low back pain". He felt painful during training. He submitted withdraw notice and medical certificate to the federation on September 17.

Some more information from Sponichi news:

" Yuzu's Myofascial low back pain will be scheduled to treat full four weeks, so that he could not attend the Finlandia two weeks later. During the treatment, he need to rest quietly and only allow very light-weighted training.

In Lotte Ghana event on August, Yuzu ever said "Get injured is very horrible. The decision to take rest should need the courage."

Wow, has he been feeling back-painful at that time?

wow he will have less than three weeks to prepare himself for CoC then... let's hope he won't overwork himself...

If he's already resting now then it shouldn't be any problem for CoC, as mentioned in the article. If he did go to Finlandia, then that would be problematic, methinks.

So maybe it will be better to go for 2 quads in COC in LP, but we all know he will go for all 3 .... :scowl:

Yes, we all know what a perfectionist he is...
Sometimes I really hope he can just give himself a break...
I went to his ice shows 6 times this summer and I saw his make quads in 4 shows....
He always give his best for everything and that's why I really appreciate him and worry about him...

Oops, I didn't thought about it. Maybe in return to their loss Yuzuru may participate in Asahi TV's variety show or something (when he'll be in Japan) ? :)

Get well soon Yuzu!!

Could I just check, does missing this competition impact his chances for GPF Final? What is the qualification for GPF Final?

I wonder about the "light-weighted training", does that mean he is still allowed to be on the ice, doing some basic? but not jumps? What about spins and step sequence?

^It doesn't have anything to do with GPF, he still has his 2 Grand Prix competitions in November. it's part of the Challenger series though.
I hope he doesn't feel too bad about pulling out of Finlandia. We wanted to see him, but it is best that he rests well and does what is right for his recovery.
Don't over-train Yuzu!

probably he can't over-exert the inflamed area, so no jumping, no spins with a contorted back position, no ina bauer, probably not even much skating since it's still an activity where your lower back it's put under stress... probably he'll do just that much training on and off ice that allows him to not loose too much muscle tone

Perfecting his skating skills and work on choreography is a lot of work, so I think he'll be pretty busy if doctors allow him to. Spins are same hard for body as jumps, I'm sure they would find the compromise on what to do first and what to be left for the time when the back is healed.

@Meoima,

I think the training here will include on-ice and off-ice activities, the coach team should arrange them properly based on his recovery status.

I remember last year when he came back to Japan for ice show on June(not very sure), he just treated the knee injury and only made off-ice training around one month. So let us trust Yuzu himself and his team would do best arrangement for long time considerations.

I remember he was taking a bit crouching position and seemed aching his back after his LP performance at the Worlds.

I really hope he will get well soon.

By the way, this article says:

先週の練習中に腰を痛め、国内の病院で検査を受けて筋筋膜性腰痛症と診断された。

"He damaged his back in the training last week, and took a medical check at a domestic hospital and was diagnosed as Myofascial low back pain."

Usually, when we say 国内 (kokunai), it means domestic, that is "in Japan". Where is he now then?

Or, did the reporter make a mistake, it should have been カナダ国内 - "in Canada" ?

I saw a tweet said she might see a person like him in hospital...
I would say he is in Japan now...it seems he always take medical check in JP even in 2013 WC, when he serious injured, he still went back to JP for medical check and treatment...
