Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I saw a tweet said she might see a person like him in hospital...
I would say he is in Japan now...it seems he always take medical check in JP even in 2013 WC, when he serious injured, he still went back to JP for medical check and treatment...

@Meoima,
I think the training here will include on-ice and off-ice activities, the coach team should arrange them properly based on his recovery status.
I remember last year when he came back to Japan for ice show on June(not very sure), he just treated the knee injury and only made off-ice training around one month. So let us trust Yuzu himself and his team would do best arrangement for long time considerations.
I wonder if he is allowed to do some ballet training in this condition? Men this is so worrisome! I must have known this before taking him as my favourite. I haven't worried so much like the time it happened to Yagudin. Having a favourite is tiresome! I missed the old days when I enjoyed popcorn and watched other fans fighting over! :bang: too late now!

I wonder if this site just used as their source that Nikkan Sports article that was linked by SuzyQ?

SFGate:
TOKYO (AP) — Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu has decided to sit out his first scheduled competition this season because of back pain.

Hanyu was to take part in the Finlandia Trophy from Oct. 10-12 in Espoo, Finland, but will skip it, the Japan Skating Federation said on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old Hanyu plans to compete in two International Skating Union events this season — the Cup of China and the NHK Trophy in Osaka, Japan, both in November — but decided to sit out the Finlandia meet as a precaution. He hurt his back while practicing in Japan last week.

Hanyu won the Finlandia Trophy in 2012 and 2013.

Reposting here as I initially posted this in the Finlandia Trophy 2014 thread.

And I was sooo excited that I'll be able to watch him in HDTV. (T_T)

Anyways, Yuzu's injury forced me to open my Orthopaedic book which I haven't touch since I graduated in med school.

Myofascial lower back pain means that the pain in his back is caused by the injury to the muscles (myo) and fascia (it's a sheath of connective tissue that surrounds the muscles and the vascular and nerves), in this case I highly suspect the thoracolumbar fascia which encloses the deep muscles of the back. The deep muscles being the one which acts on the vertebral/spinal column producing it's movements and maintaining posture.

The deep muscles is responsible for majority of the movements of the trunks & neck and has some function in breathing, so Yuzu would probably find it difficult to bend and rotate his trunk, extend his head and neck and maintain his posture. Basically skating would be difficult and will just render him more pain. Management includes bed rest, pain relievers and compress (usually warm at the onset). Recovery period is between 4 to 6 weeks.

I suffer from back pains regularly and for me, maintaining an ideal weight to put less strain on my back, regular exercise/stretching to help strengthen my back muscles with frequent trips to the spa for massage (combination of Shiatsu and stretching) helps a lot . I also change my mattress to an orthopaedic one. I think I'll try the acupuncture patches he is using once I could find someone to stick it on me. (^ ^)

I am with you, if I'd go to an event and my personal star would not present- I'd feel the same. But- you can spend some quality time sightseeing. And maybe build a phylosophical mood watching others trying to reach Yuzu's level. (Here should come an evil grin, hehe).
I've been there like a dozen times, there's little left to be seen. But thanks for the pep talk anyway. :) Maybe I'll try philosophizing, that would at least keep me busy (right now I'm sticking to being moody. I was a real ray of sunshine at work, everybody loved me. I think I'll switch to Finlandia Vodka. The sun must be down somewhere in the world.)

thats really sad but our sadness cant be compared to the tv channel that just bought finlandia broadcasting rights i guess, feeling sad for them more than myself, btw hello everyone very first post in this thread although i have been following this for very long time
Welcome :)
But you greatly underestimate my sadness at this point. The tv station might see this as a bad investment  for me and many others this is personal [SUP]*[/SUP]goingbacktomybottleofFinlandia*

Just to make sure that I don't sound like a horrible, horrible person: He's injured, I get that, it's absolutely the right thing not to take part in this competition, and I hope he gets well soon. I want him to stay healthy and in one piece for as long as possible, too (but still *criesintobottle*)

Go to deer farm! Is there any close to the event place? I'd go.
I am in the same moody condition myself. We had terrible rains and thunderstorm last night and I couldn't sleep at all. Plus this news- I feel I could join you drinking at least virtually but I can't drink alcohol at all. So I'm trying to stay positive when the truth is- in my mind I drink vodka with you.

Edited version of the same article by The Associated Press says only "He hurt his back last week" and doesn't mention where did that happen.

I remember he was taking a bit crouching position and seemed aching his back after his LP performance at the Worlds.

I really hope he will get well soon.

By the way, this article says:

先週の練習中に腰を痛め、国内の病院で検査を受けて筋筋膜性腰痛症と診断された。

"He damaged his back in the training last week, and took a medical check at a domestic hospital and was diagnosed as Myofascial low back pain."

Usually, when we say 国内 (kokunai), it means domestic, that is "in Japan". Where is he now then?

Or, did the reporter make a mistake, it should have been カナダ国内 - "in Canada" ?

When he went back to Japan for his 24HrTV performance at the end of August I had a feeling he didn't go back to Toronto, especially since he also went for a CM shoot for Monster Hunter 4. 90% probability that he is in Japan now.

I was wondering about that, didn't Nam posted a pic of them last weekend? I think the "domestic" hospital meant it was just a local one and he has no need to go to a tertiary hospital to be checked. I'm glad Yuzu now understands his body better, if this happened a couple of years ago he might push himself to compete at Finlandia.

The idea of a virtual drinking buddy actually made me laugh for the first time today  thank you, that helped. (Let me know if there's anything I can do to brighten your mood. Other than being Finlandia supplier.)

Here's a clip from Suporuto regarding Time of Awakening. They've shown a small part of the DVD/Blu-Ray where Yuzu was reading BOrser's email before his practice. Personally, I really like that part. I like the way he sigh in a high pitch. Another part I really like is the Tracy Yuzu training moment with Yuzu's broken English.

Hanyu-kun's DVD, "Time of Awaikening". This is the first time an athelete's DVD has marked the No. 1 sales.
The comment of the creator of DVD. "There is almost no voice other than that of Hanyu sensyu."

Point 1: Almost no narration or comment, except Hanyu sensyu's voice.

"Hwww... Taihendaaa.... (It's so demanding...)

Point 2: Expressing his development as an athlete straight by his own voice.

"The first quad is very important after all."

Point 3: Information of competitions is presented only in writing, so that his real voice before and after the performance stands out more.

Woman in her fifties:
"I felt like I was really close to him"

"Oh, that's working as they intended (laughs)"

"The taste of the creator is excellent too."

"That's true."

"It's really great. (Japan's) First men's figure skating Olympic gold medalist."

"But he did not appear in TV variety show or the like in his off season."

"No, he didn't. Oh, it may be because "he" does a lot."

"Oh, Oda-kun, Oda Nobunari kun!"

" He is always asked at the beginning of the show whether he would cry again."

"He says - "I would not cry any more!"

"Usually, OGM like him (Yuzuru) receives so many requests to show up, but he restrained it and concentrated on skating."

"Yes. I want to give him another gold medal beside the competition."

"You can say that again."

I don't know if some of you have already seen this video, I just found it today... It's the finale of OSA 2014 when Yuzuru jumps his 4t-3a-3a-3a showed in the "triple axel revolution" video

Officially announcement:

We regret to inform you, that Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan has withdrawn from the competition due to the advice from his physician. We have a message from Mr. Hanyu:

"I was competing this event every year, and I always take this
opportunity very important as the first official event of the season.
However, consider the long season, I regretfully decided not to take
risks and decline my participation. I would like to express my heartfelt
sorrow that I cannot skate at my favourite country, and miss many of the figure skating fans. I will give my word that I will do my best and skate once again in Finland at near future!"

JSF just annouced Yuzu's withdraw from Finlandia due to "Myofascial low back pain". He felt painful during training. He submitted withdraw notice and medical certificate to the federation on September 17.

http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20140923-00000515-sanspo-spo

So some reports are saying he has Myofascial low back pain.

Reposting here as I initially posted this in the Finlandia Trophy 2014 thread.
From Yahoo! Sports JP (Source: Sankei Sports) (in Japanese, my (poor) English translation follows):

Hanyuu to miss his first event this season, injures back during practice

It has been reported (understood) that Sochi Olympics Men's Figure Skating Gold Medalist Yuzuru Hanyuu (19, ANA Skating Club) will be missing out on his first event of this season this October (Finlandia Trophy).

According to JSF's chairman (?) Hidehito Ito (52), Hanyuu has incurred a myofascial lower back pain, and has submitted his notice of withdrawal (refusal) together with a medical certificate last 17 September. Furthermore he said that this will not affect Hanyuu's appearance at the Grand Prix Series' 3rd Cup of China in November

According to the news, it will take four weeks to fully recover from the back injury for Yuzuru...
I really hope he will be fine...

Some more information from Sponichi news:
http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/ne...80.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

" Yuzu's Myofascial low back pain will be scheduled to treat full four weeks, so that he could not attend the Finlandia two weeks later. During the treatment, he need to rest quietly and only allow very light-weighted training.

In Lotte Ghana event on August, Yuzu ever said "Get injured is very horrible. The decision to take rest should need the courage."

I remember he was taking a bit crouching position and seemed aching his back after his LP performance at the Worlds.

I really hope he will get well soon.

According to the reporter of Finland, there are over 200 Japanese fans book the trip to Finlandia trophy.....I am so glad I am not alone...though I am not from Japan....hahaha

I just woke up and read about his injury  I'm also worried he may feel too much frustrated for not being able to practice but I hope he rests well. It's sad but his health is first.

The second paragraph:

According to Hidehito Ito, Chairman of the Figure Skating Division of JSF, Hanyu had the pain in the training, and this withdrawal is just to take extra precaution, prepared for the Cup of China (Shanghai, in November), the 3rd competition of GP Series. The medical certificate states that he needs bed rest, with a limited light exercise. Hanyu said in August, "Injuries are the biggest concern. I know I should have a sort of courage to take a rest (when necessary)."

Sorry, the last part 休む勇気も持てたらいい is difficult to translate, but I hope the above explains the meaning.

Sorry, the last part 休む勇気も持てたらいい is difficult to translate, but I hope the above explains the meaning.

The last part was translated just right methinks! As weird as it is when translated to English though haha that's basically what he meant (to be brave enough to admit he needs a rest) and oh, it's the '3rd event of the season' not the '3rd' Lexus Cup of China, eh (thought it was like how Hilton Honors wasn't affiliated/the major sponsor of Skate America back then).

Thanks for the translation! :D

You're welcome!
Well, I've had another "minus start" so to say on one of my errands today and then I came home and did a workout, now I feel accomplished cause I actually succeded in something good today. And tomorrow will be a new day so I hope it will be better. For both of us and for Mr. Stole-my-heart-Hanyu.
