thoughts about being a perfectionist
Yuzu is not really gaining that much and he burns calories like fire. He's not on a diet if only he is following a regimen that allows him to eat more soup and other healthy home made food for better digestion and more vitamins and minerals for a proper energy level. There was this kind of info couple of years ago, prior to Olympic season. I guess I spotted that soup diet guy as the one he bowed to after the Japanese Nationals when he had done after skate interviews. He is known to lose weight in stressful situations so really he is not about overweight and he likes healthy food a lot.
Soup ? Interesting, must be a very healthy stuff, not this normal instant soup with all the crazy things in it- flavour enhancers - I feel itching even thinking of it.
Meals or food - if you have something that drives you, often you forget to eat - thats my case.
Hanyu is driven by himself - the perfectionist. Hanyu wants for his jumps not only the full rotation and a landing one one foot, he wants to find the perfect technique for them.
I am also a perfectionist, also a reason I chose Hanyu as Video teacher, I am very often very disappointed with me. Every day you have a different stance - your body ( at least mine) - does variations: Thats seems pretty chaotic but is perfect because there will be a day your jump is perfect. For me its nearly impossible to keep it, next day there maybe a litte lean to this or that side, hip not high enough, a little pulling of the shoulder and .....gone. Its a jump, but the perfect feeling is gone.
If I did this perfect jump for the first time I lost it after two days completely, its crazy, you tell your "ES" = to your body to keep it and he loses it ! Chasing after it tightens me up very often, but without this chasing your body looses interest to find that perfect technique again. Often before going to sleep I ask my body to find a solution for a problem in a jump/ move, often in the morning after breakfast - I may not give pressure for the solution, I have to "hear inside myself" - there is something coming from underneath to solve this problem. Thats a lot of self imposed pressure to be an perfectionist.
Hanyu san has got a lot more pressure with his competitions and all the expectations set upon him. He is playing with himself when he says he wants this second gold medal: He knows he is putting a lot of pressure on himself saying that- he wants to find out if he can keep this pressure - therefore a play with himself, chasing his limits in every way. Lets hope he pulls that string not too far that it breaks. Thats a decision he has to take for himself, I wish him good luck.
Ganbatte !!
Now there is my secret for not gaining weight since I was 17 years old (now it held 40 years): If you have something in your head that drives you , you loose interest in eating for pleasure, you eat for just sustaining your body or helping him. Only if you have this mindset you can watch the inside of your fridge and your body says what he needs, not more. Because you want to help your body you choose healthy stuff to eat and your body apreciates it, he begins to like it. During stressful situations I cant eat, even before training, I am a perfectionist.
