It's a good thing I'm not a night owl, and are usually awake at 6 am, so waking up at 6 am on Sunday morning wasn't too bad, either... except of course like you all, I did actually stay up later than normal last night because I just couldn't sleep from all the excitement. Who said it's like waking up on Christmas morning? That's what it feels like, I think, well, for me that would be waking up at Sinterklaas morning December 5 (not 25, so much sooner, hehehe, the Dutch version of Santa Claus, in fact, Santa is based on the original Sinterklaas or Sint Nicolas).

Anyway, Eurosport thoughtfully decided to air the Ice Dance coverage at 6 am here, so watching the Shibs skate now, and I think my fave pair (not the Shibs, mind) just booked themselves a ticket to the GPF, so that's another little present right there.

Okay, onwards to the Gala, methinks! Bring on the ex-prince-now-the-King. What a joy this Gala should be, such a celebration for everybody involved, and us! :hap57:

I have a lot to backread! I was able to catch the FS live on TV here in Japan... Like everybody I am so elated with the the two clean programs that we have all been wishing for. And those WR. Coverage on TV has already started.

Translation from the Russian Commentators.

Man: Let’s see how the man that loves yellow pooh will answer, Yuzuru Hanyu, Olympic champion that did something unbelievably amazing in the SP. Now he’ll try to amaze people once more and to knockout his rivals.
Tatiana Tarasova: He won’t knock out anyone today, he’ll just try to conquer himself, I think, especially after uesterday' successful skate. Yes, he will try to conquer himself.
Man: The music form the Japanese movie Seimei, composed by the Japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi .
Man: No questions
TT: Grandiose (4S)
TT: Unimaginable beauty (4T) Such crystal clear quads.
TT: A difficult exit from the Flip (3F)…… He’s got unique legs. He can turn and raise them effortlessly. (When he was doing the Beilman.
TT: Very good STPSQ, with character.
TT: OOOH Bravo, Bravo 4T 3T in the second part!!
Man: It’s not the only jump that he’s going to have in the second part; he’s got lots of them comming up.
TT: Axel (3) and Toe Loop (2T) with raised hands, he’s always doing it so beautifully. When going to his training, there’re lots of interesting stuff to see. …. 3A 1Lo 3S
Man: There’s no way one can compete with him when he’s in this shape.
TT: Difficult entry to 3Lo. That’s so that no one would doubt who the Olympic champion is. The program has very beautiful components.
TT: Here’s his Ina Bauer. Like a beautiful ship. And in the end from the most difficult entry into the rotation. Bravo! Bravo!
Man: The man makes history.
TT: I’m so happy to see this! This IS the men’s figure skating! He gave all of himself to the performance. He’s got no more strength; he gave it all, all of it!
And Brian I’m very happy for him, he’s working very hard. He’s one of the hardest working coaches in the world, especially in the past years.
Man: 119 points for technique. This is just unimaginable! We became witnesses of another Fantastic, Phenomenal achievement of Yuzuru Hanyu. Now’s the first time in history when the points for FP will be more than 200, and of course all together 300 is the first time in the history.
TT: Yes this will be a world record as well. ………….. Both of them are very happy!
Man: Finally Hanyu is smiling. Most of times he doesn’t have enough strength to do that as he gives it all to the performances but now he’s not yet realizing what he’s done.
TT: He has grown, he’s very skinny. He was training a lot, he was working a lot. It can be seen that he is stronger. But as I said, when one goes to his training (in cricket or just before performances) one can see some unbelievable things. He does some stuff that no one else even thinks of. How he jumps in different ways, with hands up or apart. Also he’s doing some crazy stuff like jumping from difficult entries, always something new.
Man: He’s got some under rotations.
TT: So what. If they count them I will shame them! Shame on the judges that would count something like small under rotations in a performance like that. All best points should be given to the skater!
Man: No, no they didn’t count any under rotations.
TT: Thank God! It would be shameful to the judges if they did that. I haven’t seen anything. Everything was perfect.
TT: Every man makes his own destiny! I’m Very happy that I see the Olympic Champion grow so much, especially in such a short time. Many Many Many years will pass until someone will beat this score (my opinion, nagini I mean, is only if Yuzu doesn’t beat it again shortly).

Thanks for the translation, nagini! It's nice to see the other commentators, like the Brits, Canadians and Russians, are being more vocal in their appreciation of Yuzuru than the Dutch.

So far best fangirl comennt comes from Tarasova!! Really happy to hear that:luv17: Even more so than Kurt, maybe because she was commenting live.

I am so happy for Yuzuru, but also so worried because there is now so much expectation from him! I hope that won't create pressure on him to deliver such a performance every time. Anyway congrats to him. The couching team were smart to change his SP by adding another quad, It took me by surprise. I hope he stays consistent.

Hi, here is Yuzuru in "Akiko's room" before EX started.

Yuzuru's talk was done and it was so funny:laugh:He noticed in FS that reaction of the audience was bigger when he landed 3Lz than when he landed 4T3T, he knew 3Lz was trauma for his fans :biggrin:He knew the Japanese fans had been saying "3Lz went for a walk" but he said "3Lz came back since I fired it from SP". Akiko told him that he became true Yuzuru in the end of Seimei apart from performing Abeno Seimei because he was smiling, and Yuzuru said that he smiled because people were saying that his face at the end of SP was too fierce (I think he reads comments in SNS)

Oh and it showed the video of Oda and Akiko were watching Yuzuru's performance (and maybe the moment they saw the score), and they literally dropped their jaws :rofl2:

Sorry for translating only Yuzuru's part, I'm so slow in doing it :hopelessness:

From the Gala thread. Can anyone find a video?

I hope that won't create pressure on him to deliver such a performance every time.
This, +1. I've already told my friends that I'm perfectly happy for him to sit on the ice for ten minutes at GPF and do nothing. :agree2: I don't need him to repeat or even come close to what he did here at NHK. I've now officially joined the ranks of the people who would prefer for him to STAY HEALTHY and safe and don't push himself too hard.
Of course, it is still Yuzuru Hanyu, and pushing his limits is natural for him. *rolls eyes*

Dutch gala comments: Yuzuru Hanyu skated the competition of his life here. Both his programs scored big world records, and he passed the 300 points as first man ever, thus taking over the world record from the Canadian Patrick Chan.
Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu is now officially the best figure skater ever. I think the programs skated here at Nagano will stay in the history books for a long time, and remain long in people's minds (more literally, in their eyes), and will often be viewed back on youtube. He really wrote history...

and then my recording stopped. *grumble*

edit: oh, we get a repeat tomorrow morning, two repeats, even, both on E1 and E2. They will probably include the whole Yuzu part again, so now I'll just set the recorder for a longer time and give it another try. :-)

Yuzu's gala performance was beautiful! :luv17: I really liked his intricate hand movements throughout the whole thing and especially liked the spread eagle into a 3A. After the finale, his interactions with Domo-kun & friends was super adorable!
