There's a "Figure Skating Concert" airing and it will feature a live orchestra playing music from Yuzuru and Mao's programs this season, as well as a Nobu medley :clapper: Nobu, Miyu will also be present.

+ Yoshida Brothers will also be performing! (Yuzu's Change was from them)

Tarot prediction re gpf 2015:scratch2:It seems Yuzu will do well, but I'm not very sure. Can someone interpret:handw:

:coffee: Ohh, seems like Patrick and Jin will do great at GPF and Uno will have a bit of trouble but can overcome.

Yuzuru's sound positive and seems to fit his situation perfectly. Perhaps he can reach new heights if he overcomes the obstacles that is his WR?

Mao's sound terrible though...

Wow! Just shows you how popular figure skating is in Japan. NBC didn't even air the Shibs winning FD (still bitter about that)...:shame:
Off topic, but a curious question to our Japanese posters. From what I've seen it seems like figure skating is everywhere in Japan. In the SC fluff the Canadian skaters said they are treated like rock stars. How popular would you say the sport is in Japan?

Yuzuru said, 'IYAA MATA KUSOMAZUIMONO WO NONDERUKARAA.' I'm not sure that he is pointing out his drink bottle or not, but he said,' Oh well, I am/have been drinking hella awful stuff again.' with a slight Sendai/Miyagi accent, hehe. I do hope Yuzu's energy drink is not bad taste !!

I thought I read translation somewhere that Yuzuru was actually referring to Mura's costume "Hideous costume again" or something like that~ XD

Are these your drawings? They're so amazing!
Makes me want to CAPTION THIS!

1 "Don't come near me or I'll blow you away with my power!"

2 MODERN YUZU: (in a childish, insecurely proud tone) "How can THEY (that's US:biggrin:) say you're hot in that attire? YOU certainly look like my grandfather from decades ago!"
TRADITIONAL YUZU : (in a cool and composed, indifferently straightforward tone) "-- Yeah, and YOU look like you haven't combed that hair for centuries."

3. Yuzuru Hanyu BOOK OF MODESTY 101, volume 1, chapter 2, paragraph 3, line 4:
"When you want to improve badly and nobody has time to criticize you, BULLY YOURSELF"

4.PEEPERS: "OMG! He's like, so totally cool! Oh, Shh!!! he might hear us!
YUZU : "Uhuh- that's very considerate but even with one eye, I'm pretty sure your heads are clearly in my hind view" (smirk)

5. The clock strikes twelve:
YUZU: "I must go,I'm sorry!" (lets go of somebody's hand and dashes down the stairs)
VOICE: "Wait! Your skate boot!"
YUZU: (turns and yells back) "I purposely left that so you can find me!See you later!"

Seriously though, they're lovely. Thank you!

You are welcome. These are not by me (unfortunately ). I should have written that “Fans” arts.
Anyway, I like your captions. ;)

I would rank FS around the third most popular sport in Japan (probably behind Baseball and Sumo). Mao Asada is the most famous athlete in Japan, almost everyone knows her. There term ina bauer in nation wide and Arakawa Shizuka and Yuzuru are very well known. Competitions get prime time tv showings, always in the news whether competitions or ice shows, press conferences as well. Many references are given in TV Shows and comedy sketches. Skaters are invited on many variety shows. Parades are held for winners and there are many awards, ceremonies and honors given. Lets not forget if you put Yuzuru's or Mao's face on any magazine, its almost guaranteed to be popular. It is truly a huge sport in Japan. I would equate skaters to NBA or Football status in the U.S.

Edit: hehe KansaiPJ pointed out Sumo is not 2nd (i guess that was just me...) I totally forgot about soccer and such. but you get the point, FS is pretty up there.

I am so jealous. ;-/
Speed skating is major in the Netherlands, probably ranked second after soccer, but as a consequence, if you mention ice skating, you are assumed to be talking about speed skating. Figure skating is not paid any attention to (unless you're called Eurosport, or, lately, Niki Wories, cuz a figure skater moving to Canada to train is apparently worth reporting. I haven't got a clue why, she is not that good).
Yuzuru's incredible SP and FS did not make the news here. Not on telly, not in newspapers, maybe in an on-line newspaper somewhere, but none that I'm aware of.

It does have advantage, though: it allows me to feel completely free to root for any skater I wish, no matter the nationality, and I feel no shame at all in being fickle about my likes and dislikes. If I don't like a program one year, chances are I won't root for the skater, either. If I love the programs the next year, I will happily wave a flag or virtual flag of that nationality.

I agree that FS is very popular here in Japan, but I highly doubt Sumo is in the top five (I think you had it 2nd?). The last year I could find data from a large-scale survey was 2013. In that survey from most to least popular were: baseball, soccer, figure skating, golf, pro wrestling, tennis, and sumo. Of course the problem with such surveys is that the rely on self-reporting and do not accurately measure level of engagement. :agree:

Pictures & Video

^^^ Here is another link of Yuzu in 2007 NHK...just 322.40 the way he stand and hold the flag

Edits: I have made a little kinda borderline not-very-special video of Yuzu, compiling his beautiful smiles. Hope you all will like it (the piano piece is from the ost of Rurouni Kenshin called 'her most beautiful smile' played by me )

Here are some fanarts if you have interest.

Fanarts : SEIMEI & Ballade no.1 (Paper cutouts)

Fanart : Yuzuru mini figure (Cup art)

Fanarts : some drawings

ANAN #1, #2, #3.

Part of tv program on ANAN, I'm sure someone will upload the video soon.

Edit: Looks like was re-uploaded again with new link (link provided by Chibura @YHIFG FB)

Yuzuru with Keiji - they were taking pictures of each other, and we finally see his phone in his hands!

New angle of his "97???! " at the K&C

What's with that grin yuzu?

Comparison of 3 events SP spin (I think the music in the clip is for the NHK spin, AC & SC spins is different part of the music).

I believe this tweet breaking down the spins in details?

News, Blogs & Other

HI everyone:

Today i attended a press call with Patrick Chan. Here is my latest blog entry - I wrote about the comments he made about Yuzu's recent NHK performance. Patrick was very well spoken!

https://sportymags.wordpress.com/20...terview-thoughts-about-yuzus-nhk-performance/

Hope you enjoy.

Isn't the lady on extreme right was the one that gushing Yuzu is handsome when interviewing him during this year summer show....looking at what she is wearing a fan auntie indeed

A new article came out with Sean Rabbit; he talked about his experience at the Autumn Classic and about Hanyu-san. He said they spoke sometimes in Japanese throughout the week, and that with two bodyguards with him the whole time, skaters other than Nam might have been too intimidated to speak to him. Sean made a point to introduce himself early in the week and then Hanyu-san said hello to him every time they cross path. Hanyu-san even said "Goodbye my friend " to Sean later.

The latest information on his height and weight on a sport newspaper (Nov. 29 issue of Daily Sports).
Height: 173cm
Weight: 56kg

The Guardian has written an article about John Curry and they mentioned Yuzuru: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/dec/04/yuzuru-hanyu-john-curry-figure-skating?CMP=twt_gu

In this blog, it is said that the GOE for Yuzuru's spin in SP (1.21) was the highest ever in men's single category, same as that of Stepane Lambiel. (Yuzuru got 1.21 for two spins in this SP actually.)

Can anyone confirm this? I could not find any way to confirm myself

Oh, I feel the same way. It's part of his charm methinks. He looks as delicate as a flower yet is as strong and fierce as the sun.

On another matter, Johnny Weir ranks Yuzur's NHK performance among his all-time favorites (no surprise there). It's an interesting list. For instance, the Michelle Kwan performance Johnny cited, like Yuzuru's, also reportedly left at least one judge in tears. Great skates can do that.

At FSU's "From Russia with Love" thread, zebraswan posted a link to the transcript of a radio interview with Igor Bobrin and Natalia Bestemianova. This was after Yuzuru's record performance at NHK. I hope someone who knows Russian (Nagini?) can give us an accurate translation of the part pertaining to Yuzuru. From the rough Google translation, they appeared complimentary of Yuzuru, whose iconic R & J choreography they had helped choreograph.

N. Bestemyanova
- I think the main thing we have learned Yuzu - is what you need to work to death to fall. And do not be afraid, that then so you can get to the next step. He is so clearly realized for myself that now, I'm sure it enjoys.

I remember Igor Bobrin saying prior to the Sochi Olympics that although it may be unpatriotic for him (Igor) to say so, he wishes Yuzuru to do well there.

Translations

If anyone is interested uploaded Yuzuru's SP from Polish Eurosport with english subtitles [LINK]

Hi again! I had some free time today so - this is highlights version of Yuzu's LP from Polish Eurosport. I translated comments into English. Sorry for all mistakes in advance!

Anyone could help to translate this tweet as below?

1. Most ever FAXes to Asachan (TV Show where fans sent questions via fax)
2. A uncommon 20,000 calendars sold
3. Established World Record Scores
4. Decade tops in Kateigaho Magazines sales
5. Anan number 1 Amazon advance sales with the forecast of huge sales

Conclusion: Hanyu's ability and popularity are out of this world

Can someone translate what he said here? His laugh is so funny and foxlike
Now, it's not clear how he ends the sentence, but he MIGHT be making fun of Mura's Costume....I've watched it over and over again and I can't decipher how he ends the sentence. But it starts off "Mata Kusomazui mono wo..." and then I can't hear the rest, except the giggle.
It means "Again, this godawful..."

Mura and Yuzu are pretty close though, and they probably tease each other a lot behind the scenes. Anyone else know how Yuzu ended the sentence?

I heard the last part "nondekkaradayo (or, nonderukaradayo)"

The subject person is vague, and in that case, I think it was, "It's because I am (or, you are) drinking hella awful stuff again."

But, we never know what they were talking about before the scene, and who is actually drinking such awful stuff.

KUSOMAZUI is a strong expression (damned something ), but, I confess I love his a bit wild or rough way of talks betraying his gentle appearance

EDIT: It seems Yuzuru is the person who is drinking the KUSOMAZUI drink
