When did Yuzu mention working out in a gym? I only remember him talking about doing pilates as off-ice training... At least before this season.
Yuzu's stamina is different from other male skaters like Javi and Nam probably, he needs lesser time but it's more effective for him this way. He can also overwork himself easily.

Question to those that were in Barcelona, does Mao has as much security as Yuzuru?
Short answer: No

Long answer:
From the 16th floor of the hotel on the day we arrived, I saw flocks of fans following someone from the rink. I used my camera to zoom in and see who it was, and it was Mao returning from practice. She was patiently signing autographs and posing for photos with fans. So she was very much more "accessible" than Yuzuru!

Some time later we went down to the lobby, and it seems Mao had only just arrived despite it being such a short distance from the rink (as we stepped out of the lift, we were face to face with Mao waiting to get in!). So she must have spent a LOT of time on "fanservice"! (I don't think she had time for that on subsequent days though).

There were typically several officials etc accompanying whenever we saw her, so she does have security - but she didn't have a scary-looking bodyguard like Yuzuru. She also didn't seem to get rushed from place to place in military-style operations, with a security-cordon of officials around her preventing anyone getting too close or getting into a lift with her. (Which is what Yuzuru had).

I don't think Yuzuru's security is particularly over-bearing - it's just that he can't stop for "fanservice" or he'll be stuck for literally hours. Mobs of excited fans could also be unsafe for him - and the fans. I believe he said in a recent interview, that he'd like to sign autographs and thank every fan, but it's just not possible, and it's unfair to do that for a few fans but not all the others.

Apart from that, I think it's probably smart to avoid contact with the public anyway, at least until after a competition is finished - don't want to pick a cold or anything! Maybe Mao should take note...! O_o

By the way, I note that general police security at GPF was much higher this year - last year there was a police car pretty much at all times outside the rink, and some patrolling police. This year there was also a group of heavily-armed police outside... many more patrols going around the building... and one or two heavily-armed police stationed outside the official hotel as well.

No, not at all  Compared to Yuzu she has always been pretty open, always only her and her small team. She was also pretty open to her fans. Though I couldn't see her coming back on FS day.
Protection of Yuzu was very impressive though. He was shielded from all sides and they even used strategies to avoid crowd. Even his mother protected him, I thought she can be quite fierce doing that. Bodyguard usually walked with killer face so it was a bit scary:cool:. There was a spooky scene when Yuzuru and his team were waiting for the green light and sea of crazy fans surrounded them trying to get to Yuzu from all sides. For a moment I thought I could see Kikuchi comforting Yuzu's back if I wasn't mistaken(long distance). It seems his previous words about fans didn't have any effect on these people, many still feel he's an idol. On a positive note, I felt Yuzu gets along with his bodyguard very well, interacts with him in a very friendly and gentle manner. I envy this noble man so much :)

I remember last year there were also heavily-armed forces. They led Javi to the hotel after his free-skate.

Not sure how general knowledge this was among the audience, but there was a bombing near the Spanish embassy in Kabul during the GPF, that may also have upped the security an extra notch. Not that the security wasn't tight before Friday... It was later learned that the attack wasn't on the embassy itself, but still.

Yuzu said after SC he had hard training and they said in japanese he said something like to sweat blood IIRC, which is pretty scary!:hopelessness:

I remember it is after WC2013. He used to refuse to train muscles because he wanted to keep his body slim. But after WC2013 where he got knee injury, Brian convinced him that muscles is necessary as they protect joints. So ever since that he has gym floor training. As for ballet or pilates, Yuzu said that was only during summer camp. He doesn't do those on a regular basis.

Glad that Brian managed to convince him because I agree that muscles do help and are important. Also, he can still be slim with a bit of nice muscles (just like how he is now). You can train and build muscles for strength/flexibility and not to bulk up (as in very defined, prominent muscles).

I think pilates and ballet lessons would be good for body lines and posture and he can always benefit from it.

I remember when on Saturday after practice Javi was slowly walking to the hotel saying "thank you" to fans but politely declined photos and autographs - it was reasonable cuz either way the walk to the hotel will be too long for him (then I saw on Sunday after Gala he took a couple of photos with fans near the hotel although he seemed to be hurrying somewhere - but there was not big crowd around).
I don't know if Yuzu needs a bodyguard, I don't think fans will bother him if he didn't want to take any photos/sign autographs, maybe he just doesn't want anything to bother him during competition, maybe he had some not so pretty accidents with fans in the past (I saw not so young group of japanese ladies fighting for GPF booklet near ticket office so who knows).
I only can say if Yuzu feels more comfortable with a bodyguard around I'm OK with this, after all he is always grateful to his fans in his interviews and gives us such a memorable performances :)

Thank you Patricksgaze, YesWay and Winnie_20.

I don´t think badly of Yuzuru for having a security and not sinnig autographs. I do believe that JSF is more protective of Yuzuru since GP China last year, looks like there were very strongly criticiced for not protecting the "Olympic champion" better.

I do believe is smarth on his side to avoid much contact, Mao got sick and by all accounts she was over worked and very tired during GPF, while is very nice of her to give so much fanservice she or her team should guard her health.

Wasn´t the pyramid picture taked during a Pilates classs?

Glad he was convinced of the merits of gaining muscle, particularly in a sport so rough on your joints. I am always telling my clients, what do you think is carrying around all your bones??

I think it's definitely Yuzuru's wish to have a bodyguard around or maybe his family's. He had a bodyguard with him even when he went to the banquet with other Japanese skaters. By the way, there one cute girl approached him with a flower, he smiled nicely at her, said thank you and gently asked the "noble man" to take the flowers for him.

Yes I remember that.. and if not mistaken that was during the break/off season? Maybe that's what skatefan22 means. He doesn't really have sessions/class during the competition season, possibly because of the lack of time/scheduling. But I can't be sure I mean who knows.

It would be impossible for Yuzu to not have a bodyguard and be protected by security nowadays. He would be mobbed by fangirls otherwise.

:scard8:

Sorry if this is totally insignificant (but it's still about Yuzu).
On the way home from some errands somewhere in the City, me and my brother stopped at a local bake shop for refreshments. I had my eyes on different colored Gatorade drinks like these. I believe they are the world's most famous players in their sport. Like how the yellow one has Usain Bolt, the Red one-Michael Jordan, the Pink one- Serena Williams and the orange one- I forgot his name. I was searching for blue but it's not there. And I sighed "How nice would it be if the they put Yuzuru Hanyu at the back of the blue or the purple one? That would be epic!" especially because he is the greatest figure skater in history (and a record breaker too);

But I also had to kill my own fantasy. HE may be the GOAT in Figure skating, but a country like mine whose only has two seasons (and winter is not one of them, I tell you) will not likely know him..:shame:) It even frustrates me how people ask me "who is that?" when they see me watch Yuzuru Hanyu repeatedly every night at home. And I wanted to tell them everything in one go. But the only immediate reply I could give them so far is that, he's YUZURU HANYU, Olympic Champion at 19 years, greatest and youngest figure skater in the world, asthamatic and had mean looking bodyguards BECAUSE he's so famous.

*sigh* When will come a time when my country learns about Yuzuru and embrace his brilliance like we did?:hap36::scratch2:
