I hope Yuzu's ankle is ok as a fan tweeted "Yuzuru went down on the combo then on 3A, I think his right ankle was hurting because he fell the same way twice."
Did Yuzu throw his bouquet to audience again?
NHK then GPF 10days later and then JN 10days after that really took its toll with the travelling etc. I hope next year he can opt-out from NHK. Why can't they move JN to January at least give these guys time as they already go all out in the GPs/GPF.

Yuzu said in the interview that he was "burning with frustration and regret, boiling. He wants to rest his body and switch to focusing completely on Worlds."
I think he might have a sprained ankle. From what I saw after the skate I think he had a pain that was bugging him. And perhaps the ankle is the one he lands his jumps and it gave up on him this time a few times. Those jumps looked quite OK in the air and on the first seconds on landing and then he fell down. He's exhausted. It was a miracle he landed his first quads that good. And one more thing: I think he was on fire during the first step sequence. I have never seen him being so energetic on it. This time- wow. And then he lost the energy.
I haven't watched his FS, but knowing he's aware he needs to rest it's a relief. Congratulations Yuzu for winning another National Title. It's obviously not the performance he would have wanted to give but I'm sure he tried his best. But performances like this fire him up, so he'll focus a lot for Worlds. Hope he doesn't push himself too much and pace his training to peak at the right time, after taking a few weeks to rest of course.
Ok I've watched it now, it does looked like his ankle was bothering him, didn't he held on to it after he finished? It's so weird to see the 3A fail him, and the landings afterwards were all scratchy, except, ironically, for the 3Lz. He looked really upset afterwards, hope he doesn't beat himself too much over it.

He was not mincing words in the interview. He was really mad at himself. But I think this is good for him, to get it all out there and say up-front "I don't feel as if I have won. I think it was awful."

It's a good thing he knows he needs to rest.

Was just thinking after the SP, Brian could have convinced Yuzu to hold back in the FS. (Although Yuzu would be stubborn as a mule.)
4T+3T could have changed to 3T+3T and
3A +2T changed to 2A +2T
since he wanted so much to get Level 4 SS which could have drained him.

That would require a high-level thinking that the 4T fall took one combo but the 3A fall did not take a combo.
Also the 3Lo landing had a turnout. The 3Lz was more secure to tack on the 2T.
Nonetheless, Shoma did utilize high level thinking when he wanted to abandon the 2A-1Lo-3F in favor of 4T solo/combo but he popped it into a 2T.

I'm not even sure Yuzu can do a 2A anymore. Not unless he's popping a 3A.
Come on, he did it once when he wasn't sure about his quad evolutions... He's a smart kid.
I believe Yuzu said some while back that he could no longer do a 2A
I have only seen him doing a open armed (both arms stretched out horizontally) 2A in practice once. I think it's because 3A is so natural to him that it's so easy for him to over-rotate the jump? Anyway, I don't think we will see his 2A. He has not done a 2A in competition since turning Senior in 2010.
I was saying that because I think he said in an interview that he can't do 2A anymore because he's so used to 3A. I'm not saing he's not smart
I don't remember him doing a 2A instead of a quad, in which competition was it ?

I can hear his frustration from here thousand miles away from Japan.. 
No but really. I think he really needs the rest. Unwind a bit. It's the time. I do think the first fall kinda took the wind out of him. Especially that he's tired in the first place.. and if he's still bothered by the ankle, it didn't help. I was surprised he had a turn out of his 3Lo. If anything it showed that he's running out of steam. Yay for the 3Lz btw!
All things considered, this is still a great result for him I mean winning the nationals again!
Again, I hope he's not beating himself up over it. Focus on recuperating the health and energy first, then resume the training and get ready for Worlds. I'm sure he'll be fine but he has to give himself a break.
