Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

I'm not even sure Yuzu can do a 2A anymore. Not unless he's popping a 3A.
On the rare occasions that he pops a jump, he tends to pop 3A to 1A, 4S to 2S, 4T to 3T (the 2T in SC is just bizarre)
It's almost like a natural instinct that he can't really control and his body knows something is wrong at the take off and reacts to it on its own.

I wish Yuzuru isn't so hard on himself. Yes I know he's a perfectionist, but doing that is going to put a ton of pressure on him. He won his 4th straight nationals title! That's something to be proud of.

I was saying that because I think he said in an interview that he can't do 2A anymore because he's so used to 3A. I'm not saing he's not smart ;)

I don't remember him doing a 2A instead of a quad, in which competition was it ?
That was 1A at NHK Trophy 2014 LP in his beloved combo 3A-Lo-3S.

Tomorrow morning, Yuzu should have a conference with the jumps. Those that were disloyal to him should be excommunicated.

"Listen all of you jumps. You need to realize who is your master. If it is not because of me, no one would talk about you in the newspaper, television or golden skate forum. SP quad salchow, you think you are being funny? I am sending you to North Pole and you can stay there during winter. I am replacing you with quad loop. LP second quad toe, you can go to South Pole. I am gonna replace you with quad loop. LP first triple axel, I will give you another chance. The rest of you better buck up. No jumping food for you."

What happened? Yuzu was off today! Most of the jumps were shaky! The fall on the 2nd 4T I can swallow, but he cannot fall on his 3A (his easiest jump of them all). Something is definitely wrong, is it mental (I wanna be perfect) or physical (fatigued + bad ankle)? :scratch2:
He could've easily lost his title to Uno (luckily Uno didn't deliver), was that on his mind too (I can mess up all I want and still win) but it doesn't seem to be like Yuzu's character at all, especially from what I saw at NHK and GPF.
Anyway I hope he can resolve all of his issues before worlds! Yuzu get well soon.

That wasn't a pop.

I rewatched it and it definetely looks like a pop. He had no reason to change his layout even if he repeated the triple toe. There was no "zayak risk" in repeating the 3A.

But anyway, pop or not pop, this is Yuzuru "I'm going to fall on that 4S until I'll land it" Hanyu, downgrading preemptively his program because of fatigue is pretty much out of question for him. Last year was an exception because of how badly injured he was all season long (and it was still a very hard programs, both FS and SP), but now that his health is back he's not going to make his program easier even if he's tired (with absolutely no consideration for my blood pressure)

Whether it's smart or not, I'm not gonna judge it. I would prefer for him to take out from his schedule some external engagement more than taking out difficult jumps :p

This is the 3rd competition he has entered within One month. None of the guy at Japan National has such crazy layout as him and none of them did 3 high level competitions each 2 week consecutively like Yuzuru.

Let's not forget only Yuzuru went to NHK - GPF - National in a row. And he set 6 WR in just 2 weeks, so if there is any slump, let it be here in a domestic competition, not international stage.

People should take into account that he is only human, not some super human. Let him rest and recharge.

And so what, he has a bad day but all the guys didn't do well as him. He delivered two beautiful quads and one 3Acombo. So that says a lot. Not to mention his ankle isn't that good. All of his muscles are strained. He simply needs rest.

Anyone should tie him up and don't let him practice tomorrow.

First of all Congratulations on retaining your 4th National title! :cheer:

Second, I'm shocked that he fell on his 3A...that is THE jump for him. Something must have gone very wrong whether it was his injury or mental fatigue, but I'm glad he fought through it. The 3Lo was also a shock. Certainly the added pressure of being perfect at home did not help. Its good that he has some activities after this to just loosen up and have a little bit of fun...I think he really needs it.

And last of all, I think we can all agree that if it had to happen, I'm glad it happened at Nationals and not in Boston. I hope the 2nd half of this season turns out like the first half. Bad first competitions, but ending strong. :)

Rest up well, don't overwork your body because of your frustration, and enjoy your New Years Yuzuru. You've work hard.

It wasn't a pop. He had repeated the 3T (because he popped the 4T and the 3A3T) AND the 3Lz (3Lz2T and the last 3Lz that would come). If he had done a 3A, the Lutz would have been invalid. He could have done a 2lz though...
Or maybe it was and he was very lucky that helped him avoid invalid elements :)

Hanyu needs to chill and stop being so hard on himself. At some point, that perfectionist mindset will do more harm than good and he'll end up psyching himself out.

Aaah true I forgot about the two lutzes. I'm still balancing toward a pop because he would have downgraded another jump otherwise and not his 3A on his 3 jumps combinations, but it could have been a very last second realization too. Thank you :)

I think he really needs a break, especially mentally, to fully absorb his WR/clean performances and distancing himself from it, but he didn't really have the time for that yet. He has been in beast mode almost 24/7 for a month and a half, he needs to get the pressure down and to recover from it.

It's quite visible he was getting tired faster and faster. Just look at him at Nhk, GPF after performances and here were there was sea of sweat dropping from him

Happy New Year's everyone!! Wow, what can I say about last night - when the sound cut out on the streaming video, I thought I was going to lose it - especially since it was 6:30am and I had not yet gone to sleep - "live" streaming does not mean tape delay!! But, I'm thankful I got to see it ahem "live". Congrats to Yuzu on his 4th title, I wish he was happier about it…but with some rest and tweaking with Brian, I hope he is in top form for Worlds (*hint - skip 4CC!). I did a 2015 Year in Review blog entry - it's a bit long….but please enjoy - and have a great New Years!! Stay safe and warm!!

I think he was tired at GPF already but still getting the advantage of a peak form. At Nationals he was sweating a lot and he was visibly exhausted. Those shaky landings don't happen for no reason really.
I think he will practice tomorrow anyway because he has to get ready for the Gala. And after that he can sit down and eat shortcake and celebrate a little. Because he had been hardworking so much during the last months and he really needs to get some time away from the rink to let his body recover and become strong again.

And I hope that he will do what he says and will manage his body to Worlds and prepare for it well. It would be big shame if he threw away world titles that he can win just because of overworking himself in practice.
