Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

At age 21, Yagudin lost everything to Plushenko. He lost his mentality. He put on 10 kgs. He almost quited FS. He insisted on "NO OLYMPIC". Tarasova threw him to a psychologist. At age 22 Yagudin won everything back including the OGM.
Before 21 years old, Plushenko also peaked mostly at GPF and he didn't peak his best at WC. After that he learned to always peak at the right time.
Yuna won GPF 2 years consecutively and was a favorite to win WC. She set WR in SP at WC 2007, then fell 2 times in the free and got the bronze. In WC 2008 she bombed the SP, won the LP but still lost. And by 2009 she lost the GPF but won 4CC and WC in the end.
These 3 skaters are among the best competitors of all time, and they all won OGM. The pressure on each if the certainly was huge.
Personally I think Yuzuru is no less than them as a competitor.

I agree with everything :) I'm quite confused when people say that Yuna always had nerves of steel. I'm pretty sure she had only couple of completely clean ( three I guess?) competitions in her career  I believe in Yuzu and I know he'll be back on top of the podium :)

Pretty much everyone bombs under that kind of pressure he faced in Boston. (Yuna Kim bombed the 2010 WC because after setting the WR at the Olympics, the pressure on her was too big for her to handle.) If it's only the pressure coming from himself, it's not that big because the expectation only comes from one person. He has always had expectation for himself because he always wants to win with good performances, not just at 2016 WC, and he never performed as poorly as he did in Boston. But if millions of people (including everyone in Japan) expect him to be perfect, the weight of expectation is much bigger.

Well, in my opinion after first mistake in LP his concentration was gone. He wanted flawless skate and after first jump he knew he won't achieve that. And that was probably combination of his and fans expectations to break another WR. Which pressure is greater? I guess only Yuzu knows that.

Tell that to Yagudin who almost quited FS at age 21 and put on 10 kgs. I'm sure Yuzuru accepted Boston much better than Yagudin ever did. I think people underestimate Yuzuru. He is wise and he calculates a lot. He isn't reckless as people think.

Just want to drop some words: I am laughing at people who are writing Yuzuru off just because he only won silver at WC 2 times in a row. Dears, many people didn't expect Yuna to win 2010 so well when she bombed WC 2007 LP and WC 2008 SP despite wining GPF repeatedly. Not to mention she didn't have any triple axel. Look at what she did during 2009-2010. I'm never a fan of Yuna, but I bet her fans sometimes still laugh at those who wrote her off during the time she didn't win WC.
Well, I am thinking we will have the same experience in future.

It's not as weird as people writing Yuzu off only because of Shoma's 4F

I'm both amused and annoyed to see so many people want to write him off. It's a lifetime achievement for Wagner to get silver (and it is), but if Yuzuru falters once, then he's done for.
ah right, I just hope he stays healthy. He's got nothing to prove...

They haven't seen what some tech specialists said about the score next season. and they haven't heard about the plan to punish tech which might be applied in Olympic season. So let them dream. :bed: don't ask me anything, you will know once it happens.
The one who laugh last will be the one with best tech. And I am sure Yuzuru is the best technician at the moment. :dev3:

Oh, If you don't mind me asking, what are they saying?

Agree completely. I'm astounded at the number of people (including on this Fan Fest) who said he "bombed, choked, head case, meltdown". Apparently his injury was much worse (and he hid it, even from Brian). Scott Davis (US champion), a very strict tech specialist, said last season that overall, Yuzuru was the best of the men. In particular, he commented that in addition to tech and overall skating, Yuzuru ALWAYS has 100% commitment to his programs. Which does/should impact PCS.

I was at Worlds, and was disappointed FOR Yuzuru, not for MYSELF. Many people around me said his SP was worth the price of the All-Event ticket.

I wonder if people who judge him so harshly hold the same impossible standards of themselves

That, and I'm so happy that this time he himself acknowledged his achievements through the season and didn't apologize for one bad performance. There are always people ready to belittle your achievements so you shouldn't do it yourself.

Well, next season it might be strict because of this season's inflation. They have to save scores for the most important event of this quad you know, there might be some harsher guidelines about tech too. ;)

Stumbled onto another World Requeim fancam.

I was watching one from last summer, and some of his moves were different. Example at Worlds he has this head roll. With Yuzu, every performance is different :luv17:.

Anyone could help to provide the link of your favourite Requiem from summer show...hopefully ones with the better camera works . Thank you.

"He's got nothing to prove"???

Guys, fangirl rose-tinted glasses shouldn't blind us to the reality.

Yuzu's Olympic title was won with a subpar free skate. What Yuzu has got to prove is that he is, in fact, the best skater in the world and that is proven with great performances over other competitors at Worlds and Olympics, not at GP events, even the final, not even with breaking records.

Sorry, Yuzuru still has something to prove.

And good, because he won't rest on his laurels and he'll keep fighting.

And uh guys, not many people actually write Yuzu off just because Shoma jumped 4F. Sure, Shoma has suddenly become a serious contender but look at that Olys predictions thread, Yuzu's still firmly in the lead.

As the quad battles are getting more intense, it will become harder and harder for the male skaters to have both clean sp and fs. Yuzuru had two of them in one season and that does make him the greatest. He is the only one who has done it. He's already proved it. I'm sick of seeing people writing off that he failed to make that happen again, but I know that those people will keep saying those stuff no matter what. Srsly, they said yuzuru was overscored but look at javi now. It's good to hear that they will not be lenient on scoring any longer. Yuzuru will be the only one benefitting from it.

Dear Moria Polonius,
maybe you're right in some way. I think that Yuzuru want to prove to himself that he is mentally strong enough to deliver a close-to-perfect performance (if in healthy condition) also under extreme pressure. Because at the next OG he will be in that situation and he knows that.

I don't agree with you, instead, about the Olympics 2014: Yuzuru FP was not the best, but the two performances together were anyway better at least in the scores, than those of the others ... This is this sport and so it happens in others fields of human life.

I think also that is important not only that this year Yuzuru won the GP third in a row and he broke in a very "bold" way all the world records, but that he gave us five clean, amazing and touching skates, showing all the best of his skills. If I look at the trend of his performances from 2012, I realize this is the best result of his career. He is still growing and improving, in technical but also in personal matters, and this is the best attitude for an athlete.

At the end, I am with you saying that it is better for him to struggle now with this kind of issues and to keep fighting to reach "perfection" (he speaks always about this) in every type of environment, to win better and to deliver beautiful skates at Worlds and at the OGs in the next two years :).

I can see why there would be a difference in reactions to Wagner's and Yuzuru's silver at worlds though. Wagner went into worlds as an underdog. Fans put all their hopes onto Gold and were even saying it was impossible for Wagner to ever win a world medal. Yuzuru went into worlds the favorite and after the SP it looked like the deal was sealed. Add that along with Yuzuru's record as the "big" events and it's easy to jump on the doom and gloom bandwagon for his chance at the next Olympics. It's a lot easier to be pessimistic than optimistic.
Two season can be a long or short time depending on how you see the glass. I think he has more than enough time to work out his kinks before the Olympics because he's a seasoned veteran and a fighter.
