Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

It's Saturday, it's usually slow on that day. And many are just coming down from high during the worlds. :)
There's quite a lot that needs to be done in my life - and it has to be done now. :(

Well that makes sense. I'm still on break and forgetting that other people have responsibilities :)

Also, I am starting to get confused with all the commentaries and translations. I remember talk about a male commentator that liked the H&L outfit. Can someone tell me which commentary that was?

I wrote it yesterday about the male commentator's love for Yuzu's H&L costume. He said it during warm-up of the fs (so it's not in the uploaded video). His name is Andras Rosnik. :)

Ohh that's why I couldn't find it
Makes me appreciate him even more!

Look at 0:35 how differently he expresses the choreography compared to the skaters around him, how he languidly waits and then snaps his hands up, and then he subtly rollllls his shoulders to the groove of the music. And then 2:34 for a huge 3A with some great snappy choreography. That's musicality right there. ;)

Other gala finales that make me think, "Hmm! I'd actually love to see him do this kind of music!"
NHK 2015 Gala Finale Gershwin's music verges into warhorse territory, but those russian split/ballet jumps are pretty spectacular on the music
2013 GPF Gala Finale The "Trepak" Russian Dance music is just so fun, it's relatively unused compared to the rest of the Nutcracker Suite probably because it demands such high energy, but just imagine what a great SP it would make!

I love Yuzu's 4T right to the music. Even if it's a gala or just a practice, I love it when he skates to the music. :luv17: It reminds of this practice with "I Dreamed a Dream" playing in the background. He was timing his skating and his 4T to it. It's a shame he fell because the timing of the 4T was perfect and now I wish we could really see him do a Les Miz program.

I love it in galas or practice when yuzuru is just skating to random music or other people's music. It's like he's compelled to follow any music and that always really stood out to me :luv17: And he doesn't just move his body but incorporates head movements and facial expressions. For that reason I love his step sequences during practice...sadly because during competitions he just won't be able to put as much into them. I'm really starting to get behind this idea of Ice Dancing for him as second career

Turns out I did reach blood curdling heights for the total number and it's so much laughing and I can't recall the last time I was so happy to THIS extent in this sport. Maybe never. I honestly forgot I reacted like that :rofl::rofl:.
I feel you, I think I did pretty much the same thing
(only I dropped like a string of f-bombs in the process :roll9: my mother always urges me to tell people that she's done her utmost to teach me some manners and that it's not her fault the child got ruined by the outside world)

I just saw this on Misha's instagram and does the Y refer to who I think it does?

ETA: People in the comments do seem to think that, too

I saw that earlier and wondered the same thing. I think it does.

I think he knows that if he writes the whole name then he will get gazillions of responses. This way is a bit more discreet, but not much.

Yuzuru alone will need more - he's got more than one pair of skates. :)

You're right  And Nathan also goes through a lot of skates due to all the quads he practices. Perhaps then only for these 3 skaters, regardless of how many they each need?

They're going to be really expensive then! :) But very exclusive. :)

Yeah, for a lot of skaters exhibition numbers feel watered down, but for him it showcases strengths we don't see to the same extent in competition. I can't choose between competition Yuzu and gala Yuzu. Maybe that's what he means by his ideal skating: the day when we see everything to the maximum. But that would be superhuman :dbana:

And it would need to last for... ten minutes at the very least?

Those moments that you highlighted above are all Yuzu doing jazz :) Slinky movement contrasted with angular, snappy movement in the arms, shoulder roll with a torso ripple, the drag step...and again, he does it very naturally and easily.
Slinky is the perfect word for it. He really responds naturally to the music.
Thanks so much for posting this! I've been looking for this gala performance forever! I couldn't remember which event it was from. I love Yuzu's 4T right to the music. Thank you Fresca for posting that, you can tell he really wanted to do a 4T right on the music. I totally agree with both of you. I think I remember Tracy Wilson saying matching crossovers/basic skating to the music helps give a skater rhythm and more energy. I really love when he's just skating around to random music and his movements seem to naturally fall into place. I'm still impressed by his unplanned waltz jump-1A-3A sequence at the GPF practice.

I would just really always love to know why they end up doing these things. I mean, does he just go to people like "Can you pick me up for a photo, pretty pretty please?" or do people go to him like "hey you mind if I pick you up to take a picture?" I'm not sure which version makes me laugh more

Or... 'hey, I might be lighter than your partner - do you want to try it out?' :p

Or... 'hey, I might be lighter than your partner - do you want to try it out?' :p
He might want to try that one only when said partner isn't within earshot :p or the last thing he'll hear before he sees stars is "Did you just call me fat??"

Maybe it's the - I know what'll drive the fangirls crazy. Want to give it a go? - type of question. He is naughty enough for that
