his head is the only thing that holds him back in this competition, jumps are there rock solid in practice

I am more concerned about his mentality.

Lets send the positive vibe! it is he who is fighting the bad memories, a kind of trauma, etc. and trying to get over them. No wonder after that experience in Boston and the terrible injury. if he can cope with them well at SC, it will be a great result for him.

I saw that his jumps are ok in practices. His mentality of a fighter was good for him until now. What is wrong now, I do not understand.
People saw him in practice today said he looked focused and more determined so... hopefully he has been more in the zone now.

I trust him. He's fighting a lot but is gradually winning every stage of their recovery. After all he's been through I am very happy to see him skate and perform these very difficult jumps. If he wins I will be just happy, because this is your goal.
I love your FS. I Love. I hope the music penetrate your soul, calm your heart and Yuzu do your best and we can see him happy. Go Yuzu! Go! We will support you always.

Question:
Wouldn't Hanyu have to place third or higher at Skate Canada and win NHK in order to make it to the GPF? Would not qualifying for the GPF really hurt Hanyu psychologicly?

Not necessarily true, it depends on how others are doing too. Remember he qualified with a 2nd and 4th finish before (2014), as well as 2 silver (2013) and 1 first place and 4th finish (2011). Daisuke Murakami qualified last year with 2 bronze.

ETA : About his psychological state, I don't know. Let's wait for the FS at SC and how he will do at NHK before overthinking and overanalysing how his mentality will do if he doesn't qualify. He is 4th in the short with 1.6 point gap with the 2nd place in SP (mura). A decent LP from him should place him on the podium, however a disastrous one might throw him off even further. So let's wait and cheer for him.

He says his frank view is that he did mistakes. his body had moved well but he couldnt go with the good stream.

He tries to change his mood right away. He says he will have many chances of jumps tomorrow.

New article from Asahi. Sorry if this has been already posted.
http://digital.asahi.com/articles/ASJBY2H19JBYUTQP00B.html?rm=296

It says the success rate of his 4Lo were getting lower going into Autumn Classic, so he repeated run-throughs in his preparation for Skate Canada. He seemed to have found some points to nail it in the program, but he analyses that thinking too much about those points made him too cautious and that led him to this result.

Wish his good luck tomorrow.

About his hairs, he fixed them with hair gel to express the cool image of the music specifically. As for the second jump, he was not rattled and could switch his mind after the failure of the first jump, but he was too concious about something technical.

i dont know if his hair style worked well as he had expected, but it was a remarkable change.

http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASJBY52ZNJBYUTQP032.html

In this interview it is explained that he knew something went wrong with lo but instead of natural fall and rotation, he did differently, it was natural reaction of his body to protect himself from injury it seems kind of some "PTSD"

and because left foot injury is still under treatment he gets less training 5 days in a week no more than 2 h on the ice, because he is protecting his left instep sometimes his left ankle and right foot is hurt, (easier to get hurt) same happened before scac his had small injury on ankle .. it seems...

So he instinctively opened the arm drawing to the body and stopped the rotation.
about 4S, he didn't do the second 3T because he tried to avoid injury. It's his body (instinctively) reacted.
=> referring to the same article as above:

I roughly translated the bold part:

"He damaged his left foot instep before the Nationals in December last year, and he did not skate for two months after the Worlds end March - April this year. It was the first time for him not skating for such a long time. It was nearly autumn when he was allowed to do one quad jump a day.

Besides this, he damaged his right ankle and left knee, so that he could not use his body fully. He suffered an array of health problems, and caught a cold this autumn. His practice time is less than 2 hours a day, and 5 days a week at most. He has to reduce his amount of training comparing to other skaters.

Hanyu is aware “Quality over time for training” and “It is not easy to acquire stamina.” The biggest enemy for him to win the second Olympics may be injuries. This will be the Olympic pre-season for him fighting against that enemy."

As far as I read Japanese, it is present tense. So, I think his training is still limited.

The videos of tonight broadcast in japan are uploaded!

Guys have you seen this cute fanart? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cv6Fy4eUsAATRXP.jpg Pooh is carrying his SP costume but the picture is all about anime characters and nature so it has great LP vibes. The more I watch him skate his LP the more I get the feeling that I see the actual anime on ice, it's a living magic- that program might become a masterpiece with time. And the music is the one I can't forget though it is very emotional and I try not to listen to it too much not to be carried away with it. But it keep on coming to my mind- it is so captivating, same as his beautiful skating and the raw emotion that he brings on ice.
I wish him to calm down, let go of his dream of perfection for tonight and let himself be an anime tonight, be an artist only he can be, create beautiful shapes and figures with his body and bring the power and the impact he had gained through his trainings. He has a rare gift of making people happy with his skating. I want him to be happy too.
Go Yuzu! You can do it!:cheer:

So beautiful ... he will become the prince of the forest and thrill everyone with its charming magic on the ice.

After Mirai's heartbreaking performance at SC, I am ready for anything that Yuzuru brings  I hope he rises and soars through his FS tonight :hap10:

BTW, do you feel he's improved with his skating skills? in this cometition, it seems his edges get deeper and the change of edges get smoother. i think it's the result of the training of off season with Tracy. Further, he seemed to realize the important of skating at Worlds 2016.

I don't know. It does look like his edges and flow were better (this is more evident in the Stsq part for me) but I feel he is slower than his usual self (still fast just not usual Yuzu)? Maybe because he is not going all out though. I am not so sure.

I think compared to the same time in previous seasons his speed is better; When he's on he's way faster than everyone-else. He might be slowing down in parts, and tomorrow in the LP he'll be slower in the second half, but this can only mean he'll get even faster later on in the season. After Autumn Classic I said he's way better pcs-wise than ever before at the start of a season, and I think that still hold true. He really saved that second half in the SP. I agree that his edges and flow improved. They probably could focus on that more if he couldn't jump as much.

It is puzzling to see him have such a good warm up, looking relaxed and calm with all jumps solid and then go out and slate the way he did. His timing was way off on those first two jumps. It seems the mental energy that's going into the quad loop at this point is affecting other things as well. I think he's right to be trying it now; the only way that is going to get resolved is through repetition, including in competition.

On a side note, I thought he looked so great with his hair done the way he had it.

Maybe it is gonna be a rocky season like some have predicted, but he'll get to where he needs to be in time.
