Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

It seems like you guys have no faith in his current SP to develop into something same captivating and joyful Parisian Walkways were. I think he has to gain more power and make sure those jumps work and be less stressed about content and injuries to dance his cute and devilish self out to that Prince program because it can rock the world. He is just not in the best shape of his body and mind to rock it.

Swan- on the other hand, could be a beautiful and magnetic program but would it be this ethereal with the content that he wants to be there for (I don't dig it as SP so) FS to be? I doubt it.

As per Swan... I actually recalled a beautiful movie I watched when I was a kid about Anna Pavlova. It's a Russian- UK production and the main part is played by ballerina herself Galina Belyayeva (she is an actress too). When I hear the Swan music I always remember this moment from a movie were she dances a Dying swan. Look at the arms, look at her face, she is out of this planet. There are a few clips from that movie in this playlist, they are in Russian, you can find those on Youtube with English dubbing * but I just wanted to let you listen to her voice, it is so angelic. Actually, if you like it- look for DVD, it's a beautiful movie, very interesting and dramatic story, amazing ballet performances, wonderful OST.

And you know what I love about Yuzuru's program especially? That it is not about dying swan, it is about love (thanks to the lyrics). And he is a beautiful swan, so pure and innocent, like a magic creature that appears in a place that was damaged by disaster. He is there to bring love and hope. His skating brings that kind of magic that makes people smile and cry at the same time. He makes them believe in themselves and that they can overcome any obstacles to be strong and happy again. This is about him, that program.

*that moment when she has cramps in her legs and counts tacts before she HAS TO BE on stage... reminded me of Yuzu last season with his swallen foot before Boston FS, OMG...

I found this version of the EX (the image isn't high quality) and this is now my favourite commentary for this program thus far. It sums up my thoughts well. :coffee: :luv17:

https://youtu.be/9hquFQibTQ4?t=225

I have no idea where it is from though, maybe Universal? Above it says "Super Sports 3" but I've never heard of it for skating. Actually the guy has some british accent, or maybe scottish? idk the difference well

Irish, maybe?
Actually I checked their Twitter, it seems to be South African? What? They watch figure skating?

According to google it is a south african sports channel? So weird of them to broadcast figure skating, I might be wrong

It could be an SP but there's no ChSq in the SP and I feel like the simplicity and all that gliding will be lost if it has to be turned into StSq4. That's the problem with all the requirements just to get all the levels...

I agree but I feel like it could still be good. Something will get lost, don't think we can have it any other way considering, but the potential remains, there are 'gaps' to fill. Of course, all of this is academic, we have no idea if he's even intending this or it's just an EX he wanted to do and will stand on its own.

Just to be clear, since the talk started there, Ambesi wasn't speaking about using this ex as SP for this season ditching Let's Go Crazy, but to use it as SP for *next* one.

I got it. He'd never ditch a program mid season.
I don't want him to change his SP for the Oly season. Better have it done long beforehand.

I am never going to find LGC captivating, I never did when it comes to PW either. I think PW was great, I had a lot of fun watching it, still do but it's not a memorable thing for me, as LGC even with him fully fit, is not going to be. I have fun with it now and it'll increase but it doesn't pull me in emotionally so after it's done, it is done. Chopin last year, I know every movement, every sound. It's purely a matter of personal taste when it comes to style and what I like to see him doing the most. He fits in my head the most with that type of programs. I of course fully support whatever he does (and it may be easier to keep the SP of course), and have faith in it but as a purely academic talk, I'd love to have something of the EX converted into the SP for Olympic year as Olympics in my head are special and I would love to have both his SP and FS linger in my mind long after.

To be honest I'm hoping that Hanyu will bring back Romeo & Juliet 1 for the Olympic season. I still wish for Hanyu to do a big band so. Sing Sing Sing, String of Pearls, ect.

Considering his short step ups to jumps, if there's someone who can find a way to put a chsq in a sp that's him

I'm not sure how it will work out as a sp, to be honest, tho. And anyway I love it so much I'm fine for it to remain a magnificent ex.
I also think David Wilson may have done his move over trying to get one of the program next year (and the prospect scares me less than the past. I'm so weak: one ex and I've forgiven DW for NDP already :O )

I keep rewatching, there are so many magical moments there. That delayed single axel is a thing of utmost beauty: he goes in with such an easy and confident open stance and then *snap* he closes the rotation which such speed. (How some could mistake it for a pop, which has exactly the opposite dynamic is beyond me, sorry)

I really hope he stays on with Buttle and Bourne...

Probably because it's rarely seen and actually a lot of people have never seen it so during the program, in the moment, their mind goes to what they can relate to, which is a pop, without actually thinking of his movements.

I don't think he should EVER skate to R&J1 again. It was a magical program that came together perfectly at Worlds 2012 due to his age and circumstances and all future iterations would pale in comparison. I wasn't very keen on the 2014 Worlds exhibition that he did of it (though I understood WHY he would want to do it) because the effect just wasn't the same and it would diminish the memories of it more if he does it again.

Irish, maybe?

Oh, thank you. If they're indeed South African then the accent makes sense, but why would South Africa be covering figure skating  Lol

I think the EX would lose a lot of its magic if it's transformed into a SP. The lack of jumps and the atmosphere of the gala lights add up a lot for the performance; If it was transformed into a SP with his enourmous technnical content I think the presentation would suffer.

Maybe they could adjust the delayed axel so it could look less like a pop, maybe delay or antecipate a litte. It being followed by a 3A doesn't help much since people are used to Yuzuru attempting another triple axel out of nowhere after a failed one. Or maybe it wouldn't make much difference since some people would think it's an EX with two 3As planned and a failed one. But anyway, I think It's a gorgeous feature.
