Why do they always mispronounced his name? at least in the past :scratch2: I can understand if they are just saying his name without cue cards but it's not :noshake:

I guess it's still very difficult for them to pronounce "Ha-nyu".
I am glad I am not a famous athlete so I don't have to know which kind of variations they would think of for my name. Like... "are they calling me?" Lol

The best dressed Pooh (and bear) in the world.
Now what will Pooh do, if Yuzuru changes his hair to lets say purple?

“I think there is no such thing as ‘the limit’ or 'the strongest’ program in the world. I would like to make further efforts aiming at the quality only I can achieve, the program elements only I can execute, and the expression only I can make.”
- Sophie Moroi’s translation of Yuzuru’s words before NHK 2016 for the facebook group

Article from SPUR magazine written by Naoko Utsunomiya.

~Yuzuru Hanyu, Opening A New Door~

At the end of summer, Hanyu was back to days of focusing on training. He also took part in a competition and he won it. It was not a big competition but most importantly, he succeeded in doing the quad loop (t/n. recognised as 1st one in competition history). It was at Autumn Classic held in Montreal, Canada.
The scores were not that good and the content was still lacking. But that is no big deal. Hanyu had a serious injury last season and he could not practise as he wished. His new skate shoes were also causing him to have back pain.
As such, just competing is already something extraordinary. He has, once again, climbed up another level.

After the silver medal at World Championships in April, he was in a lot of pain. Physically and mentally, there were many things he had to endure.

Regarding that period of time, Coach Brain Orser said this. “His feelings were very unstable. What he wanted to do, he could not do smoothly, and he became nervous. We worked to keep him in a good mental state. To avoid all kinds of unrest. That is our job.”

Jeffrey Buttle, choreographer of SP ‘Let’s Go Crazy’, said this. “Because the injury was serious, it was a high hurdle. There were some specific elements that he could not do. So he started to practise other elements. That was the bright spark in a bad situation. He needs to have the 'I can do it’ confidence. I think now is the period to grow that kind of mentality.”
Autumn Classic. There was no need to do it perfectly in any area, for that competition.

Hanyu of media day did not look like he was enduring something.
He looked like a champion. In other words, not any different from usual. No matter what kind of injury he has, he strives to “be himself”. That is definitely something that he is very strong at.

At the practice in Toronto, Hanyu jumped the quad loop many times. ISU judge Nobuhiko Yoshioka saw that and spoke of his surprise.
“I heard that his shoes were not fitting well, and he would not make it in time, and his condition was also very bad. As such, I did not have that much expectations…..”

However, what really happened was something else.

“From an incredibly beautiful eagle, he did a jump that made us think 'Ehh now that was a quad, right???’ The landing also flowed very beautifully and I thought, (he made it look like) a loop can be jumped as a quad this easily. It was really wonderful. I was so impressed.”

Yoshioka was not worried at all about the results at Autumn Classic. And he said these reasons why Hanyu will be alright.
“The quad loop at AC, from the point of Hanyu’s ability, it was not good. Although there was no under-rotation and it was properly landed, his quad loop is not like that.
His free skate was still not quite ready and I think that was due to his injury. He may not have had enough time to skate fully through the programme. The feeling of being a bit tired and having not enough stamina, the problem will be solved as the season progresses.”

[……]

We just need to watch him. We just need to wait.

When creating 'Let’s Go Crazy’ together with Buttle, Hanyu said many times, “Wow, this is the coolest!”

As the season progresses, that day will come……

This part : "His new skate shoes were also causing him to have back pain. "

Ok this is new information to me. His back pain was caused by his switching his skating boots? I wonder if he changed it back to his previous skating boots or stay with the new one during Skate Canada. I did not really notice.

^^His back seemed fine at SC so I am guessing he got used to them? I doubt he'd change. Definitely new info

This:
I would like to make further efforts aiming at the quality only I can achieve, the program elements only I can execute, and the expression only I can make

just makes me think - 4Lz, here we come. And other things but post Olympics please...

He had back pain during ACI, which is partly why, for example, we haven't seen the biellmann spin at this competition. He broke into the boots by the time of SC. :)

Oh yes, I knew he had back pain during ACI but it was never disclosed that it was because of his skating boots. He sprained his ankle too just some time before the AC competition if I recalled correctly. I think this is the first time it was mentioned that the cause of his back pain was his boots. I did not notice what he wore during SC actually, whether it was icefly or piano.

ETA : switching skating boots usually always cause problem, this is not a surprise at all, I am just not aware that his back pain back then was related to that. I wonder when he first change it cause he has yet to break into his new boots by AC.

Anyone check the boot that he used at 24hr ice charity on Aug 27 when he skated with Kumamon?

"That definitely put things in perspective, reminding us how much recovery he went through, not just physically. But yet, somehow his true strong inner self remained and shone so brightly!" - Margie @facebook

His perseverance and remain positive in facing all these challenges really make him such an inspiration. I've seen a lot of support messages from students, working adults, non-skating fan, fan who recovering from accident etc. who said that Yuzu inspire them to never give up, remain strong and give their very best in all that they do.

Otsukaresama deshita Yuzuru :cheer2:

Oh it has been a long time since I saw your post, how is your health recently? I hope you well.

Thank you for asking, Meoima. I am fine. Lurking most of the time. Nervously awaiting Yuzuru's performances at NHK Trophy. Hoping for clean programs, but will be satisfied with a first-place finish. I want him to skate well enough to win NHK Trophy and the GPF, performing better at 4CC and peaking to perfection at Worlds. I will avoid watching the live stream. I do not want to jinx him.
