The crazy combos that Hanyu has been trying out in Gala practice makes me think he is seriously considering his strategy past 2018 Olympics. We know that post 2018, the men's FS will be reduced to only 7 jumping passes. With that limitation, it becomes even more important to maximize your jump combinations.

I wonder if he'll still take full course load next season....maybe he should take a semester off or something.
love the new change he made in ina bauer. Both fp and ex. stunningly beautiful, feel like it starts becoming something his own.

To me it looked like that he held that Ina Bauer position way too long to get into the perfect jump position that's why he missed the Lutz. I kinda feel the second part is not well balanced yet, he seem to run from jump to jump and that feels exhausting. The change is great, it fits the music much better.I wish he could hold it longer, but he'd have no time to prepare for the Lutz.
Hence why i found interesting that he only said that he wants (probably wanted to say "i am going to do it" but he imagined Kanako telling him that he was saying arrogant things againThe FS gets shorter by what, 30 seconds I think?
I think overall a lot will depend on what actually changes. If the ISU doesn't change the way points are given for combinations for example, so if a 4-3 still has the same BV as a 3-4 (or however they would choose to increase the number of points you get for the latter) then I expect we'll start seeing 3-3-3 or more triple combos like his 3A-1Lo-4S and overall as many quads as possible because why do a more difficult 3-4 when there's no pay off. Maybe even 4-4 would show up then, I would expect it. Of course, Yuzuru has a huge advantage - the number of his quads. The less quads conquered, the more difficult to max out the BV due to Zayak.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Yuzuru is keeping just this in mind when he's trowing out these weird combos in practice. It is nice to see he almost rotated that 3Lo because that means he probably can, with more practice. Of course, a lot of what we already spoke of here when he tacked on the 4S on the end of combo will come into play here. That he can jump with little speed, has incredible spring and rotates incredibly fast, even faster this season.
I think he can probably do a lot of packed big jumps actually, without being Victor Nikiforov. The thing that makes it difficult for him is that his programs are so packed with more than just jumps. He can do a clean four quad program easily even now, I will bet on it - if he reduces the rest of the content. So there will be a lot to think about there because is that actually worth it? He isn't getting the scores for example, when it comes to transitions that are adequate to what he is performing so is it worth it to have them? On one side, we could say if he does less, the judges will ding him but maybe not, when there's such a big change of rules and compared to others who are definitely doing less even now. With a shorter program it'll also require less stamina too.
It's certainly an interesting topic but I think a lot will depend on just what rules the ISU actually changes. I think he'll still try to do the hardest possible layout of course.
And I definitely expect the 4A. To be perfectly honest, I think he's already trying it.
)to do it, but avoided saying if he has been practicing. I too, think that he has been practicing it.
This magazine cover is soo pretty! I want the original photo.
i'll let the impulse pass but for now, it's on my cart. That photo is too pretty♥If anyone uploads BESP version of the ex, I'd be very grateful indeed!

I have it, that is, I have a recording of Eurosport 2 from Dutch TV, which aired it last night at 7 pm. It has both the British and the Dutch audio. I posted a message last night with some of the comments the Brits made (wasn't much, lol). Was there even a BESP broadcast of EX? Because I'm under the impression there isn't one, since I didn't see it being featured on neither yesterday's nor today's schedule.![]()
