Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

The layout was 3A, 4S+3T, 4T btw. Yuzuru wants a word with them
Plus, they have a 15 or is it a 16yo kid just break a record of the figure skating genius so nothing about that anime is even remotely logical when it comes to skating, because the genius has harder quads in his repertoire, like the 4Lz and the 4F. When you add PCS you just get ???? and ????

Believe it or not I actually have calculated the maximum score for this layout Actually it was Yuzuru's old chopin layout but with jumps all in the second half. It is 116. So the extra 2 points must be some anime bonus lol. Yuzuru's chopin layout maximum score is 113 something if I recalled correctly, but is 2 jumping passes is in the 1st half.
The 136 layout is the maximum layout can be done with current system. I would have calculated quint jumps if only they have assigned the base value of it.

Shhh if you say it's something only an alien can do, he might sense it and he might get ideas :shocked:

I am still not sure if I am ready to see 4A landed in competition in my lifetime. Actually the max score I calculated was 138-139 something, but this would require the layout to include 4Lz4Lo and well this is just impossible and 4Lz4T look more feasible so...

I saw many people attempt 4A and (seem to) get the rotation. First Max Aaron and now Brendan Kerry. To be frank, this 2 is not really known for having the easiest or biggest 3A either, so I don't see why it would be impossible for Yuzuru to make it. I actually don't want him to try it because of injury risk. But if he is really determined, at least do it in a harness until he get like 80% success rate? Pretty please? :sad46:

I think he was about half a rotation short in that YOLO 4A during 2015 summer, if I remember well, that still gives me heart palpitations? I don't think it's possible to stop him if he's truly set his mind on it, especially considering that yes, lately we've gotten some of these videos, not to mention, and I don't think it's my imagination, but are the media asking a bit more too? Anyway, with his huge 3A, which looks even bigger somehow this year, I don't think it's something he cannot do, on the contrary. But I'm always conscious of Yagudin's tale and Urmanov's injury so yeah, pretty please indeed. I do believe though he is way more health conscious these days so maybe we will get our wish! I just hope all the tales of successful or almost successful 4As don't push him too quickly. But then maybe he's been actively practicing it, intending to introduce it, for much longer and we just don't know.

Yeah, he won't show those babies until he is pretty confident in them, his pride won't allow that. Honestly I think the best we can hope for is the harness, if we start asking for the toning down of the YOLO, I have this feeling fate will go lol no on us :hopelessness:

Seeing old videos it seems he accompanies Yuzu to almost all of his competitions, including nationals and WTT, and doesn't even accompany Gabby, Alaine etc. to Grand Prix events...I wonder how he selects what events to go to and if he has a priority list?

Nationals, definitely. Brian is the head coach for Yuzuru, Javier, Jun Hwan and Tursynbaeva currently. I don't think he will skip unless his skaters clashes schedule? Or if there is other unpredictable/unfirtunate circumstances. If there is a schedule clash, he probably pick one that is more important (like how he attend Autumn Classic for Yuzu and Bet instead of Japan Open for Javi). While Gabby, Alaine etc have another head coach (for Gabby it is Lee barkell). Brian co-coach pair skaters at TCC too, Lubov and Dylan, but the head coach is also Lee Barkell. Not sure about Roman Sadovsky and Stephen Gogolev, if Brian is the head coach or Lee Barkell is.

I don't think he will ever tone it down. It's essential to his character and motivation. I learned watching the 4S saga that he operates under a different set of rules from any skater I've ever seen before. I really almost wondered if it was a planned fall (like Jeff Buttle in 2008—no shade because I adore him), but I was proven wrong. He is so stubborn he will persist until he succeeds. Only his body can stop him.

As his fan, it's stressful worrying about it, but I've accepted that this is his quest. If he only cared about winning, he would take fewer risks, but he cares more about fulfilling his personal vision of what skating should be. I respect it. I notice that people who like a Plushenko-type consistency aren't satisfied by him. But the way I see it, Hanyu could pull off Plushenko's program content, but Plushenko could never have skated Hanyu's. I was always firmly Team Yagudin as well.

I found the whole podcast very interesting. You can see Brian has his hands full and running over with his students. I'm glad he and Yuzu were able to have that (awkward) conference and understand each other better.
