If I understood right, he kinda worries a lot if he can't perform all these necessary routines he had set for himself, which are multiple, so he is so dependent on them it's bothersome. He needs to set himself free from them, become more independent. I agree it's a nice gesture towards preparation for the Olympics 2018.
Also they have shortened the time before the actual performance after the marks were given to the previous skater. So when he's on ice there's a room for a quick warm-up, short word with coach and basically get into the center of the rink into the starting poze. Simple routine is better for a quick focus. And he carries a lot of rocks with him (Brian have spoken about those during his #icetalk) so he needs to set himself free from those. This is good. He might feel better and lighter afterwards. For his skating to be more fun than a hardwork.

Oh, could you please share what Brian said about these rocks of his? Was he talking about necklaces /bracelets etc.? It'd be hard to get rid of those, they're like a second skin for him lol

He was talking about metaphorical 'rocks' like burdens on the mind. Pressure or things that skaters worry about.

No, no, Brian said that for Yuzu those rocks are high expectations because in Japan they all put their athletes on a very high pedestal. And the level of responsibility that sits on his shoulders is enormous. You can listen and download their conversation from here, episode 10, part 1 is a convo with Brian.

Interesting interview. Hope someone will translate it.
With the way the rules change, it is good that he is considering adjusting his routine to accommodate that. Skaters preparation time will be cut short from 1 minute to 30 seconds, and if you don't start skating by then, you will get a score deduction. 30 seconds is not a lot of time to do a lot of things.
There is also the problem that comes with random draw, where Yuzu can skate in any order in any group, while he has been used to skating in the later group and in the later order. So of course because of this his warm up routines or his routine while waiting for his turn need to be adjusted accordingly.
Brian also mentioned on ice talk how any of his skaters are not used to skating in the morning at all (in which during the olympics they have to), and how he will change the routine, training schedule and training regimen because of that. So maybe this routine change will be necessary not just for Yuzuru, but majority of the skaters. :)

Good luck to Yuzu at nationals :yahoo: :hap10: I'm going to be without internet for a couple days so I'll be missing it :sad4: Even though I'm sure he'll win unless he decides not to skate, still hoping to see him gradually improve (doesn't have to be clean!) throughout the season :agree:

Clean short will be crucial to win national title. He cant do too many mistakes. Shoma will be waiting there

Considering Shoma beat him in the long at GPF and has seemed relatively prepared all season long, I would certainly hope they don't get too comfortable with the idea that a win is a foregone conclusion, but I'm sure Yuzu knows that. I adore them both so I want to see an okay competition, but no peaking. Save that for worlds, please, rofl. I imagine both are still pretty tired from their grueling competition schedule.

What has this to do with nationals? They all have to skate again at nationals, even Shoma Uno :rolleye:

I think what matters is pretty much what Yuzuru himself said in the interview. If he executes his normal performance, he cannot be beaten so he would like to concentrate on himself. Best attitude as it's the attitude of a winner.

His 4Lo is more stable as he's better with his upper body movement. He's more confident about it. That the three quads out of four are stable is a huge achievement, I couldn't agree more and I'm happy he seems much more positive and less pressured in a way, about that and his GPF win and that's he's thinking about the second half of the season and PC. Fingers crossed!

I read the trans of that interview too. He seems to realize (and mentioned) that there will be little time to adjust the program for Nats, so I am curious about what his plan is for his 4S combo in the second half. Quite frankly the Team Japan men has it far less stressful than the ladies for Nats. Just like GPF, a win would be really lovely but regardless of the result I think it matters more to me that he seems to be quite happy and content with how he did in the first half and is focused and positive about the second half. :)

Just move 3T on first sal in free and he will already save a lot points by doing that. Saved combo, no REP

Yes, I wonder if he will do this. either a 2T or a 3T in the first sal. Or if he will still insist in keeping the 4S combo in the second half, considering his character.
The REP deduction is about 3-5 points (if losing the 2T combo is also counted in) and it is quite a lot of points to waste. We will find out soon, maybe during OP reports from media (if they are kind enough to report it)

Frankly, I don't think anything will change in regards to the 4S combo. When I read that he thinks it's a concentration issue, I got to thinking that more than likely he'd think he'd overcome it in time so he won't shift anything. We wait I guess but my bet is no change.
Same though, about how focused and positive he is and that's for me the biggest impression from that interview. It's so good to 'see' him like that, it's a good frame of mind. It's true it's less stressful for the men's division but at the same time I do think Nats matter to him a lot, as a point of pride. With this attitude though he'll put less pressure on himself and that's great.

I sort of want to do a poll to see if people think she actually has a crush or if she just admires him  . I really tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but the evidence is becoming a little overwhelming, especially when I think of myself as a young girl in her position. She is doing everything I'd be doing :p.

Sorry if I am only replying to this now;) Actually you don't have to make a survey of it because it's obvious  I can't blame her, Yuzuru is a catch

With how the Japanese media behaves, I kinda understand why the Nationals is important for the Japanese athletes.

Watching the recent interviews, I feel like Yuzu is trying his best to take out some of the rocks in his backpack, like Bryan said, by not stressing out too much on the result. I think some people really need to cut this guy some slack. This season has been tough for him. He was really behind with the season preparation and I feel like he tried his best to tell everyone to kinda expect his "unperfectness" in the 1st half of the season.

His talent literally saved him this GPF. Yeah some people call it luck but only a skater with as much talent as Yuzuru Hanyu could be injured, almost absent for the entire season, yet won the GPF. He did it in 2014, after that horrible accident, and now he does it again. So I call that talent.

He is a person who could skate a 110 pts SP with injured leg, so as of now Im not too worry about him at Nats. I am aware about Shoma, but I feel like Yuzu won't make it easy for him.
