In any case, I didn't think World's team was decided only using Nationals result? I thought GP results and other factors were also taken into account?

------

Hmmm... if Yuzuru is not national champion...

...does that mean he will be free to choose a different GP event than NHK next season?!

It's not remember Daisuke finished off the podium at nationals and still made the Sochi olympic.

But I'm confused about your question... what does the choice of GP NHK have to do with Nationals? I don't believe they'd choose Shoma instead of Yuzu for NHK. Not an elegant way to say this, but, Yuzu is the golden goose, not Shoma...
The difference is next GPF will be in Japan, so Yuzuru doesn't need to compete in Japan 2 times in a row during GP series. And if Yuzuru can skip NHK, he still will compete at GPF in Nagoya. Of course JSF might keep him at NHK still.

Call me greedy but I want Hanyu at Skate America again. Isn't SA the last gp next season? It would take the place of NHK.

Yes but that's the point. It is possible Shoma as National Champion may want to stay and compete at NHK especially due to his bad jet-lag handling. Of course, Yuzuru himself may want to do both since it is at home, regardless of a possible out he may have there. Who knows, we'll have to wait and see how that plays out.

Mm, I see. I don't think it will matter to JSF, but it can change, who knows for sure... I don't know the calendar for GP next season but it would nice to see him doing something else than Skate Chanada for once. I'd love to see him doing TEB (so that I could see him again live ), but CoR can be a good choice too... and I trust Russian rinks to be smart with the state of their ice.

Shocked to see the news, but good decision. Wish you quick recovery Yuzuru! Taking time to rest is very reasonable, there are still important competitions ahead of him this season :)

I thought national champion always went to NHK? (JSF insistance?)

That would mean Shoma must do NHK.

And Yuzuru and Shoma can't both go to NHK next year - because they were both on the podium at this year's Final. (Medal winners can't compete against each other in the following GP season, except at the Final...)

Just read this news, poor Yuzu. There is a nasty flu going around and lots of
people are getting sick. JN won't be the same without him!

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Yuzu!

Yes but Shoma is no Yuzuru Hanyu so it might be there's no such insistence this time. Of course as I said Shoma himself may want to do NHK in which case I am not sure they can say no to him, considering he is the title holder. Not to mention, and I just thought of this, if they force him to go to the AWG, as the champion, they definitely won't be able to say no if he claims NHK rights. Then Yuzuru has to switch. It's too early to tell IMO but chances seem pretty good that something other than NHK will happen.

Of course watch him keep SC then, and pick another :palmf:

No, it's World podium, not GPF podium that count for next GP season. Right?

I can understand that JSF wants their champions at NHK but between Yuzu and Shoma, the choice for attracting more people is clear. Plus I think Yuzu loves skating at NHK. If Shoma has problem with her-lag, maybe CoC could be a good choice for him next season? But until we know the final result at Worlds, we won't know for sure.

I am sick too, surprisingly, for the first time in about eight years. I don't know what's going on but it may be the end of the year, everyone is very busy at this time of the year, but the weather is cold and the body just says no, enough... :confused2:

I hope he rests now a lot and does nothing but drinking hot tea and playing video games :agree:

No, it's World podium, not GPF podium that count for next GP season. Right?
Oh? Well, it could end up the same anyway: it's quite possible that Yuzuru and Shoma could both be on the podium in Helsinki...!

Actually no, Daisuke was 3rd in 2010 Nats and 2nd in 2012 Nats but he got 2011 and 2013 NHK Trophy.

And like others have said its the World's podium that matters for determining GP events, but even then I don't think its a hard and fast rule. Japan managed to get both Yuzuru and Dai to compete in 2012 NHK Trophy even though both of them medalled at 2012 Worlds. JSF got a lot of criticism for that as it made qualifying for GPF harder for both Yuzu and Dai so I doubt they will try to do it again, but it did happen before.

Its really too early to tell how the GP assignments will work out.

Usually NHK invites national champions but not always. For example they invited Daisuke Takahashi, Nobunari Oda, Takahito Mura to NHK Trophy 2013 though Yuzu won JFC2012. Being on the GPF podium together doesn't make it impossible for them to compete at the same GP event, but being on the World podium usually does, though Yuzu and Daisuke were invited to NHK2012 together in spite of being 2nd and 3rd at Worlds 2012. So we'll never know which GP event he'll skate at until next June...

Edit: Oops, sorry for unneeded post! merleice had already said what I wanted to say.

At 2012 NHK, Daisuke Takahashi (2011 National Champion) and Yuzuru Hanyu, both on the podium of 2012 Worlds were assigned. I think it was because NHK of that year was held in Sendai, and planned as the part of reconstruction activity. So, there is always an exception, and if Shome gets the Nats title this year (nobody knows what would happen though), I think there is still a possibility that both Yuzuru and Shoma would attend NHK next year.

As a member of Team Japan, one who has won the 3rd place or upper in the Worlds is qualified, although after some consideration. Besides, he won the GPF this season, and the world ranking is No.1. I don't think there is any reason Yuzuru is not chosen.

Edit: Oh, already talked above

Get well soon, Yuzuru! I would assume once he recovers he would immediately return to Toronto for training?
I am actually glad he put his health first. Skating while unhealthy will not do him or anyone any good. :)

I have no doubt that he will be sent to Worlds, he would take the 3rd spots at the very least. The spot that doesn't need to be given to 1st and 2nd at the Nats podium, and is based on past international competitions.
4CC is the same. I think they will likely choose him if he wants to go?

Oh nooo! Get well soon Yuzu!
I got the flu last week and still haven't recovered even after a week. The fatigue bc of the flu is no joke. Glad that he doesn't force himself this time. Jumping quads when ur ability to focus is limited is dangerous.

If JSF decides to be stupid and forbids him to go to Worlds, well im sure all hell will break loose lol What is World's peace when that happens. I will fly to Japan and raise a fuss.

For sure. If he wants to go, he'll go. It's important for the Olympics and he's their top man. I think considering he's missing the Nats, chances are he'll definitely want to go to get one more competition under his belt, regardless of the Games and then plus testing the ice? I think we'll see him there.
