Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I can't tell him"you should prove you're no.1" Because he knows it best himself and really wants..Anything can happen. Just pray for no injury and his mind set under pressure. And whatever result will be, he will still prepare olys and I root for him.

One thing is sure. Hanyu needs to deliver this Worlds. Like he really HAVE to. Last year Worlds was just incredible dissapointment. Judges were ready to reward him there and he missed big time. He needs to prove this year he is N1 in the world.

Yeah that one was so emotionally hard on everyone. Sometimes it's just all a game of expectations. He needs to prove it to himself too.
"Fail first --> great comeback = wow!"
"Great at first --> dropped the ball last minute = meh, disappointing"
Even though both are failed one, nailed one.

Even worse for Yuzu because he had that string of eye-popping results behind him. Made for contradictory and conflicted feelings about a world record holder yet not world champion - and judges feeling that way about him can't be good.

Oh no I never thought of that...pleaseee Yuzu skate well

Since he didn't skate amazingly at any of his events so far does that mean he's peaking for 4CC and Worlds?

Also, would his PCS for the Olympics take a hit if he lost at worlds?

I think we are all hoping he will peak later than last year... that was the plan.

As for pcs for next year... oh, who knows. Figure skating judging has been known to be sometimes very surprising.

GPF next year should be a consideration too, in terms of momentum. Since it's the last big competition before the Olympics.

I hope Yuzu has lots of time in Canada to train here on until the Olympics, less media and less traveling so he doesn't feel the need to catch up/ overtrain. Also a plan hashed out with Team Cricket for whatever order he has to skate in.

That should have been done years ago, back when Yuzu first started skating there.

I am regularly gobsmacked at the lack of focused, strategic planning that seems to surround him.

That... yeah. I remember Borser talking about how Javi does his best run-throughs after a weekend of rest. And so in a competition when he had to skate relatively early once (I forgot when), they made plans for him to end warmup 1.5 mins ahead of time, to simulate that. And then Yuzu in his book saying he hasn't figured out how to deal with skating second :palmf: and also overdoing quads in warmup when he's already injured (as we retroactively find out) :drama: Or it could be that they just don't like to publicly air their strategy with Yuzu. I can see Yuzu being headstrong and difficult, and ailing on the communication end. Pats for Tracy and Borser :hpull:

I'd say I'm all for TCC. Given all that's at stake, Yuzu + team should be communicating better this season. *Prays for it*

I think it'd be best for Yuzu to add 4Lz as soon as possible, at 4CC or WC. That's in case he wants to execute it at Olympics. If he includes it next season it's more risky. Olympics are coming and you need a stable program in terms of your abilities to execute the content and no need of making changes to a program. So you could build up your confidence.

Agree. He should do it in the short. No time for overthinking it.

I really don't think the 4Lz is coming next season. I know that I could be wrong as Yuzuru is so motivated and quick to stay ahead of the rest of the field. But Brian mentioned how Yuzuru said he wants to use this season to stabilise his 4Lo so he isn't making mistakes on it in the Olympic season. It seems strange to me that he would be so concerned about having a stable 4Lo if he's planning to throw a 4Lz in which basically brings him back to square one :/

Yes, he did say he wanted a stable 4loop by next year.... however, plans can change if other competitors start upping things technically. 4cc and worlds will really answer some questions on how the other guys are doing and what marks they will be receiving. I hope he does not need the lutz because it takes him a bit to put in a new jump...but you never know.

He is already practicing 4lz frequently at CC. He doesn't practice it for nothing. Per my guess I think he will do 4lo3T in competition before that. Adding 3T after a jump you already land many times is less difficult than a new quad. He will add 4lz, maybe not at 4CC or WC. But he will add it.

OTHER

Hi all, remember the Yuzu fans demographic survey that I conducted in April 2016 after Boston Worlds? I had to unsubscribe to Survey Monkey, thus the results and support messages can no longer be seen there. I've transferred them into presentation and uploaded them on youtube.

- Yuzu fans demographic
- Fans support messages & thank you for season 2015-2016. I left the spelling/grammar as is in the presentation.

For comparison, this is the latest US figure skating fan profile @page 7.

Also, i'm already practicing for 4CC :D. It turned out more blue than i expected, but at least i know not to put that much blue next time haha

Another champions from Cricket Club. Congratulations!

And, Bruce's quick response to that question
Of course, it's "Yuzu"

I love and tearing at this latest video by Axel Yuzu

The Rose
I made MAD with "The Rose" of Bette Midler. I'd like to send this song to Hanyu player to convey love to people trying to survive with hope. - Axel Yuzu

Throwback: Baby Yuzu interviewed after his first Japan Junior Nationals between 00:28 - 00:50

Cuteness overload because:
00:28 At 13, Yuzu got his first win in Japan Junior Nationals, will be competing at the senior level as well...
00:30 Q: What's your aim for Japan Nationals?
00:31 A: Within top 7........ eh. *turns away, makes a face*... nevermind, top 10 is good I think.... *laughs*
00:38 Q: Why'd you change your mind?
00:41 A: Because... *drops to wide-eyed whisper* it's impossible, right? ... *returns to normal volume* I'm still far from that level, far from.

He got 8th

Great, great many thanks to yuzusorbet on tumblr for this! Source

My gosh, reading this fanfest is NOT good for my health! I'm worried if he puts in the 4Lz, worried if he doesn't, worried about WHY he was allowed to overtrain in the first place and get injured, worried about whether his team is really doing all they can for him, worried about how he's gonna do at Worlds, and even if he does well, worried whether it will even mean anything (side eyes 3-time World Champion Patrick Chan)! Yuzuru, your skating is beautiful, but my blood pressure is going through the roof so my love for you may ultimately kill me lololol.

I think getting your first 4-rev edge jump (sal) + toepick jump took a long time. However, looking at other youngsters +yuzu himself, once you got the sal and the toe down, it seems like the others would come and stabilize faster. In Yuzu's case, the step and entrance going in could have made it longer for him to stabilize. If you notice others doing their fancy quads, they usually don't have tricky steps or entry and they also come with a long set-up (which by rights should not get a high GOE).

I hope you are right. I hope it means he could add the lutz then if it is really needed next year. If others are doing it without steps, then just for that jump, he should do that too if it means getting the marks and keeping ahead of the fearless young'uns.

What baffles me is still the 4S3T in the second half of LP. I don't get why he insisted on it. He messed it all the time, especially that location and that stupid entry (sorry for my word). I have heard they suggested him to change the entry before 4S3T but he insisted on it. My friend guess it has connection to music, and I am like: "It makes no sense to the music if you fail every time."
In fact, spending more time to practice a new quad would be better than repeating a quad in combo in the second half. I don't understand why he is doing that 4S3T in the second half at all. And he didn't even change the entry.
As if those entries make any difference, if you look at the judges' scores, the more difficult entries make little difference at all.

I still find the section right before the 4s/3t not really making sense with the music anyway... it's not like it's a choreographic gem there that he wants to keep because of its brilliance... that section is the part of the program that makes the least sense.

I am not against him adding the lutz, but before that, he still need to finish what he has in his plate first and not bite more than he can chew. Having the highest BV is not everything if you can't land/rotate it nor perform it cleanly. Look at Mao Asada, she has the highest BV and the hardest layout, but barely perform it clean or rotate it, then eventually it hurts her PCS. Compare it to Evgenia who doesn't even do 3lz3t but strategically plan her layout + execution of elements and focus on consistency, thus she soar to the top.
For now Yuzuru has not land the 2 quad in his SP yet, or the 4 quad in his LP yet. Until he does them, I highly doubt he will add any difficulty. I would rather see him improve the quality of his 4 Loop for the time being, because they are not in a good quality in competition (and land that 4S combo but he knows it), rather than adding new jump that risk his overall performance even more. Again, he actually has a higher BV than Chen and only point zero something from Jin in the LP, so for now it is not necessary.

In fact, spending more time to practice a new quad would be better than repeating a quad in combo in the second half. I don't understand why he is doing that 4S3T in the second half at all. And he didn't even change the entry..
Unless he wants to move the combo in the 1st half, he still need to do a quad combo in the 2nd half even with 4 type of quads, right? He will not do a 3lz3t (lol). Between 4t3t which gave him lisfranc injury, 4s3t is still a better choice, no? About the entry, I guess it is just him being stubborn. But didn't Shirota-san said he will change the entry to his jumps?

greater ... flexibility with jump types perhaps? He said in NHK Trophy interview with Akiko that he wanted to do 4S from short side of rink. So it seems to have less to do with music but just something he wants to achieve. More types of jumps to choose from should he miss something?

as Iong as I remember, he hasn't any combo in first half since his senior career. even in short, he hasn't do first jump as a combo ever. very risky layout. Among top skaters,I think only shoma followes this,so he sometimes gets rep deduction.
I guess the reason is not only backload point but also his familiarity and goe wise with that layout. he is just that type of skater.
I think this issue is really same as chopin 1. 3lz3t. penalty is different though.
Some skaters insist on inconsistent jumps..fans and casual viewer are maybe frustrated to see that, but I think there is reason we don't know details. And this is the matter he has to realize himself. Due to this stubborness, he has lost some points and titles, maybe future things.. But it's eventually his decision and life.
If get something, lose something esle. Honestly, I get a feeling"wow, how he managed to 4t after fall" everytime. He is working that entry with shae-lyn at toronto, so wish his effort will be a result.
