Why is the 4CC is too long?:drama: I want to see Yuzuru again. Then after 4CC the WC is another month hay!😞 Just cruel!

Only 3 more weeks and when we hit the week of the competition, there'll be photos and news and then we'll be biting nails and time will go too quickly

We were watching the Europeans, you should have joined us, really makes the time pass with some skating in it. It was really good! TAT and Grishin kept mentioning Yuzuru today! And Russian Juniors next week and 4CC around the corner then.

Fingers crossed 4CC goes well then we can gush until the worlds. We are after all, very, very good at gushing

I assume Yuzuru hasn't decided his LP layout yet at this point. :roll9: Maybe he will decide when it's 10 days before the competition? I will bite my nails whatever he will do anyway.

Sounds like a great plan  Plan Gush... no it needs a better name, any suggestions?

Also did TAT and Grishin say anything fun/interesting? Sharing is caring ;)

Also I am posting another translation (Yuzuru SP16) hopefully within the hour (I'm writing it here to make sure I follow through :palmf:) - translating idioms is HARD

:hopelessness: Probably yes.
I figure he has to give himself around that time to practice strictly the layout he wants to show plus the back ups in case of various situations.

And I know!! Though I admit I will bite them especially for the 4S combo if it is still as it was before. I cannot help it, I think I have trauma related to that element :palmf:

I suspect the original idea behind the combo and choice of choreography/steps leading up to it is that it gives Yuzuru time to breathe, similar to in his free skate last year and in his R&J1... I mean I am no expert but he seems a bit stressed leading into it? I remember someone mentioning that he is executing it later than at AC and SC for this reason basically? So it seems to work against the plan really... Perhaps doing the combo along the long side of the rink would be a solution? I mean I'm sure this has already been pointed out and considered. I am sure that this is the element that he has spent most time on and is looking at with Shae-Lynn Bourne :agree:

What did TAT and Grishin say about Yuzu???

About TAT and Grishin. First they got into a fight  No, seriously, I don't remember details as I was trying to watch but Grishin said something like music reminded him of Hanyu and TAT went no, and then they got into an argument and TAT went oh you've never been to Japan, well I have ... and I tuned out as I couldn't watch at all! But they were at it for a while. And then there was Brezina and TAT was lamenting how he used to be and his talent and compared his legs to that of Yuzuru's, she was talking about abilities. She really was rather bummed about his skate, but understandable. Always nice to hear how Yuzuru is a top standard to compare to though.

Perhaps doing the combo along the long side of the rink would be a solution?

He doesn't want to jump along the long side of the rink. Yuzuru's complicated

Yeah, it seems a matter of concentration and timing and I'm sure they've worked on it to try and give him a better chance and work out what it is that is bothering him. I really do think it's timing as this matters to him. Was it Kurt who also commented on this, I think so. In any case, I can't help it, until I seem him go through it as he does usually with that combo I'll be flinching! :palmf:

Haha great fun with TAT

Yes, I am with you - that combination is not helping me in maintaining my stress-level...ha ha ha...

I think Kurt said that the fact that he comes to a complete halt before means that he has to build up his speed/energy/rythmn again, he seemed to imply that it actually makes the combo harder

:hijacked: Yuzuru's Short Program Worlds2016 with Swedish commentary (it is not perfect but should be close enough :palmf:)

http://dai.ly/x44g8a8?start=1536

Official commentator: Ladies and gentlemen Yuzuru Hanyu (though she pronounces it Hannu :P)

Lotta Falkenbäck (former figure skater) - There he is, the great Japanese (champion)! 25-year old, no sorry, 21-year old Yuzuru Hanyu. Olympic Champion, World Champion 2014, silver medallist last year after Fernandez. He took the world by storm when he arrived in 2012. He jumps so you… He looks like a light (weight) butterfly that floats across the ice, as if nothing is difficult.
Chopin has composed the music

Filip Stiller (former figure skater) - Now he actually has the opportunity to take a proper lead over his competitors, if he nails his elements now. Quad salchow!
Now we shall se if he will also nail the jump combination… Quad toe-triple toe! Fantastic!

LF - As if it was nothing (easy)

FS - And look, we can see that he is already almost at 31 points technically, after (only) two elements.

From nowhere… he executes a triple axel!

LF - OJ oj oj (oj = wow), what a (fit) cap (Swedish expression, similar to ’fits like a glove’ => amazing execution)

FS - Observe him now, playing out his whole register/catalogue in the step sequence

End of program
LS - Everyone is standing up! Every single person, even we are! Because of this achievement/performance by Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan! Oj oj oj oj oj oj oj oj (oj =wow) What a performance he has shown us!

FS - Yes, you can only take your hat off (for him). He dominates the others completely in this competition. He doesn’t just do two quadruples and a triple axel, he does two perfect quadruples, triple and (a) triple axel, and in-between everything is just without fault, and simply simply simply perfect – it is not possible to do better (= execute it better)

LF - We can see Fernandez score, this is almost 10 points ahead… of Fernandez technical (score)

FS - Yes, I think that he is going to break the world record again, and he has already done it twice and both times we (all) said that now, now he will never be able to do it again.
This is so… to be allowed to experience something this great is so big (= it’s such an honour to be here and experience this/see this)!

LF – Yes, this is the most insanely perfect (performance) I’ve ever seen.

Brian Orser, he is of course over the moon too, Hanyu of course is as well, what a discharge (of energy) this is!

FS – And the way he skates in-between the different elements. He starts with just a couple of strokes and he is already at top speed, and his movements to this music it is so sensitive! Everything. He’s got such a sensibility for the music… and up in a quad salchow, four rotations in the air, with BV of 10.5 and he got +3 (GOE) the maximum

LF - Nice spread eagle in the landing and then directly into a deliverance/landing (step?)

FS – (Talking about quad sal) Awarded by the judges with +3 (GOE) for perfect quality

LF - And there we have the combination quad-toe triple-toe

FS – He was strong there, a bit on his way out (of the circle) but managed to salvage the jump and land properly. This is almost the best of everything, triple axel from a counterturn and with a great landing and back into the choreography and magic immediately (again)

LF – It is such a fantastic completeness/whole when he skates

FS – And here he has also shown that he could handle the pressure, his opponents didn’t, great lead for the free skate

LF - He is also so timid! That is the thing as well, he is like… like a happy (carefree) youth, 21-year old but at the same time…*she laughs, seeing Yuzuru yell in the re-play* Great to see him let out some steam/energy/attitude. And look now when he thanks the audience, he is so humble! He is thanking his coach. He is so Japanese. He’s personal best is 110.95.
Oh come on now… 110.56! He didn’t beat it, but almost! Oj oj oj what a lead he takes. It is insane! Fernandez had 98.52!

FS - It is completely astonishing that he manages to perform this (program so well)! At the highest possible level with the highest possible pressure – that he manages it!

LS - And also that he is so timid/humble (= opposite of stuck-up, aggressive) and thanks everyone and is so humble! He has such a fantastic charisma in all his humbleness/simplicity…Yes, now we can breathe again because now Hanyu has skated…

Translator’s notes: Timid is not a perfect translation (there isn’t one perfect word for it). The Swedish word vän (as an adjective) here means a combination between timid/friendly/innocent/carefree - the opposite of aggressive. Lotta means it in a mostly positive way, but she is also happy when Yuzuru yells after the sp, since she takes it as an indicator that he is aggressive in a positive competitive way (she knows he is before as well, what she muses on is the interesting contrast she believes he displays – seeming so timid in behaviour while at the same time being so “on” competitively).

Oh god the combo of hell. Yes, i always contain my breath and flinch while he's in the air because of that...

People! Have faith! He has been training hard, is probably very focused knowing he wants a good competition at the Olympic venue, and has probably been analyzing his combo problems from every angle. It will be fine!

Why wouldn't he have decided his LP layout by 4CC? There's a chance that he's changing it? I read the blog about the 4S at the end in TCC but I thought that was just a practice thing, like at GPF practice. Or do you mean the 4S-3T combo? I don't remember him having a combo in the first half in a long time since the 10% bonus, so I doubt he'd move it to the first half no matter what happens.

(I might have missed something since I didn't read all the previous posts too closely)

10% bonus means nothing if he can not land the combo. He even lost more points for Repeat rule. He is not stupid to hung up on it just for 10%.

I think everyone, including him, knows that, but I was wondering if there was actually any indication from him that he would do it. Or if it's just pure speculation/hope that he would.

Well, there is no news about Yuzu so of course it will slow down.
Meanwhile in these quiet days I spend my time watching tennis. While I can sit through and endure 5 hours of stressful tennis match, I can't say the same about ~5 minutes FS performance (re: the latter is more stressful for me lol).

I suspect the original idea behind the combo and choice of choreography/steps leading up to it is that it gives Yuzuru time to breathe, similar to in his free skate last year and in his R&J1... Hahaha that's me. In AC and SC his 4S combo matches the musical highlight perfectly well, but he complained that he doesn't have enough room and felt narrow when doing the 4S combo, thus maybe why he popped it into a 3T on AC and a 2T on SC. At NHK and GPF, they alter it a bit and made him pause a bit longer before going into the jump (it could be for a point to breathe, but my guess is it's also changed to let him have more space once he arrived at the other side of the rink). He did seem to have enough room, but because the timing of the jump no longer matches the music, I guess it threw him off. He is very sensitive to the music, most of his jumps and elements are timed well to the highlights or the accent of the music. I don't know who suggest the change, Shae or Brian, because I expect they are well aware of this about him.
