Any thoughts about his skating order for the FS? He has to skate before Nathan...

It's not terrible?? I think he could get fired up skating after Shoma. Gold seems out of reach unless Nathan has a meltdown (unlikely, but ice is slippery), but he won't have the pressure of skating after Nathan.

I just want a clean H&L at this point...

Why would Nathan need to have a meltdown? If Yuzuru goes clean and gets a good score, he may make up the difference even if Nathan lands everything, not only in PCS (hopefully) but also in GOEs. Though Nathan's 5-quad BV is already about 5 points higher, it's not insurmountable. Now Shoma landing everything may be a bit more worrying, because he does get the PCS too, but there's only a 3-4 point difference there. So no need for epic meltdowns. Just good clean programs.

Of course, the main issue here is: if Yuzu goes clean and lands everything... so... get on that pronto, young man.

How gold is out of reach ? remember Saitama 2014 gap was bigger and Machida was getting closer PCS than Nathan and Shoma.
then... Patrick beat 12 pts gap with Boyang at 4cc last year with 2 quads against 4 and clean skate, again same Chiddy closed 13 pts gap this coc with 3 quads and fall. Actually 6 pts is not considered as a big gap, even in ladies. 6 pts are their gap only in GOES of LP or PCS if he skates cleanish he will win. IF !

A clean H&L is going to win. If it happens.

Does anyone have hd video of YouTube of todays SP? I'm sure it was shared already though, this thread is so fast!

In that press conference English part he said he was confused in the 6 minute warm up because he could not find the rotation on the 4loop and because he could not land the 4sal, which made him nervous. He said he trained hard in Toronto and so he was able to do his steps. He popped his 4sal but he was able to do the 4loop so he says he was able to control himself.

You know I love him much that's why I am so mad. He was messing up the warm up honestly. Certainly he was not feeling well when he drew the 2nd as his skating order. I just don't get why he still let it affect him. I mean... there is a reason why he get that skating order so often these years. He has to learn. I am not surprised that by Olympic he will draw 2nd again. If he doesn't get used to it, then how can he overcome it at Olympic? You know I don't even care if he wins this competition or WC. I hope he learns the lesson about the skate order. Only by that way, he will grow up.

Yes I also got nervous when I saw him mess up the combo in warm-up, not quite sure what happened there (he also messed it up in run through for last SP practice). I'm hoping his physical condition is actually good since I thought in some of the recent practice clips some of his 4S3T combos were landed a little lower in the knee than usual and the thought did cross my mind that he may have hurt himself a bit.

The thing I will say is that regardless of whether or not drawing 2nd affected him (I honestly don't think it affected him that much, he went second at Skate Canada in the free) he could've done the same whether he skated 1st-6th and in that case the skate order wouldn't have been the reason for the performance - we won't know at this point unless he says something specifically about the skate order. My thought was he was perhaps a bit too relaxed leading up to the SP and the nerves probably started to hit right before he skated, he probably needs a bit more tension and intensity to bring out the the best fight in him which I hope we will see in the FS.

Yes, from what they showed of the warm up he was definitely off, which would explain that very stiff and nervous looking skater we saw as he faced the beginning of the program. This is when you want to just say to him " trust your training!" People are people, though, so it's not that easy.

I'm kind of surprised at the level of scrutiny over this, if I'm honest. It was by no means a disaster and as Yuzu himself said, it was actually a lovely 2S-3T

If I'm curious about anything, I'd say it's this talk of his ~intensity~. I agree with previous posters, there's some attempt here to relax him by changing his routines and having a calmer, more laid-back approach. In the past his intensity has definitely magnified the pressure and stress of competition, but on the whole I'd say it serves him well. Brian may not like it, but I think they should work to use it in his favour.

Till now my only objection at this competition is that Yuzuru ended up not seeing Nathan's score before his skate :dev3:

his interview

Of course, he feels "kuyashii"(lol) and there may have been more he could do, but at the same time he feels some sense of achievement that he could what he could. Further, he feels his growth with getting high GOE 4loop for the first time.

Seems like mistakes in 6 min. warm-up affected him a little bit, though he could trust himself and his training and managed to land the 4Lo.

So, routines.

"dekiru dekiru dekiru" was gone.

Brian retracted Pooh really quickly after the hand shake, usually it's right there until Yuzu skates out. I don't know if that's deliberate.

Got a riddle for you. There's a Pooh bear hidden somewhere in these pictures. Can you find him?

Yes his 6min warm-up was a disaster, according to my friend in the arena.
Yeah. His warm up was a total disaster. So that 4Lo was actually a huge improvement.
You maybe right about he was too relaxed before the competition. I think with Yuzuru, the Javi-like approach doesn't work. But again, he often mess up whenever he skates 2nd or 3rd. I don't think he will tell people something like this again "oh my gosh I skated 2nd I am scared". But he usually messes more when he skated 2nd or 3rd. It's like a pattern he can't change. Which disappoints me a lot. I thought he would have improved in that sense but he hasn't.

At this point I don't think he can win. Cause Nathan and Shoma seem to be better free skater than him. Their programs also don't have difficult transitions and it's easier to land jumps when there's mostly crossovers in and out.

well let's not forget that he used to overtrain himself frantically, likely caused by stress and pressure. If injuries and overtraining are byproducts of pressure serving him well, I'd rather have a healthy Yuzuru. I think (and hope) that he and his team will try to strike a balance between the two.

Ok, maybe not a major meltdown is required but mistakes made? Yes. Nathan's SS still needs refinement but his consistency is being rewarded in his increased PCS. Based on tech content (BSV only) Nathan already has a 10 pt advantage, of course Yuzu will make up the difference there with his PCS and GOE but it's tight when you're looking at PCS/GOE pts to make up the difference. Yuzu will have to be foot perfect for gold. Not saying gold is impossible but it's looking tough. Yuzu's made amazing comebacks but the guy's only human and he's been looking a little brittle since 2016 Worlds. He's under an insane amount of pressure, but I have faith he will pull thru. And 4cc is probably the best place for him to learn to work through these issues

At this point, I think I should stop being greedy with Yuzuru. He will try his best and that's all about it.
