Ok, maybe not a major meltdown is required but mistakes made? Yes. Nathan's SS still needs refinement but his consistency is being rewarded in his increased PCS. Based on tech content (BSV only) Nathan already has a 10 pt advantage, of course Yuzu will make up the difference there with his PCS and GOE but it's tight when you're looking at PCS/GOE pts to make up the difference. Yuzu will have to be foot perfect for gold. Not saying gold is impossible but it's looking tough. Yuzu's made amazing comebacks but the guy's only human and he's been looking a little brittle since 2016 Worlds. He's under an insane amount of pressure, but I have faith he will pull thru. And 4cc is probably the best place for him to learn to work through these issues
I bet Yuzuru won't be clean in LP. He might skate well but not clean. Honestly at this point it would be good if he can win silver cause I am afraid at the very best he can only get bronze. And I am not veru optimistic abouthe new method of approaching to make him feel more at ease like Javi. If they still keep that up, he might do even worse.

Nathan does not need to make mistake for Yuzu to win, let's put it this way, as long as Yuzu skates well.

I think stormblade means that "Yuzu will have to be foot perfect for gold". If he is doing great but not "foot perfect", mistakes need to be made on Nathan's part.

If both skate well, Nathan will win thanks to the gap in SP and higher BV. Yuzuru can get higher GOE but not enough. Nathan already got almost 44 PCS in SP. He will get around 90 PCS in LP. That's the benefit of being from USFA. I have been saying this from last month.

I saw that Marin cited Patrick vs Boyang. But let's not forget it was Skate Canada vs Chinese fed. Nathan might have the same or even worse program structure than Boyang but he will always get around 4-5 points higher in PCS than Boyang.

I don't think Nathan will mess. Even if Yuzuru skates clean, If Nathan skate clean, Yuzuru might still only get silver. Unless Yuzuru will skate clean with 4lz which I don't think he has enough time to pull that jump in.

Frankly, I am afraid Yuzuru might have to fight for bronze. Cause Patrick can do quite good LP and score huge.

Is there a new method of approaching things, like javi? is this an actual, deliberate thing? or, is it just that he's actually relaxed and feeling healthy for a change, knowing this isn't World's or Olympics so he's enjoying himself on the ice?

He lost some levels at the Stsq and one spin... http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1617/fc2017/fc2017_Men_SP_Scores.pdf
Well I think he looked stiff too, like too cautious, but he did pretty well. We have to wait and see how he does the LP. Have the skating order been posted ?

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. It's the reverse of GPF this year. Yuzu is already behind in the short so he had pts to make up. It's just how the math works. :( sugar coating doesn't do us any favors and doesn't change reality. Nathan's record is short but he's shown that his jumps are reliable. Yuzu will need to match that consistency if he wants to stay on top

With lesser BV, and a gap after SP, Yuzuru has to be foot perfect and even that I am not sure he can win if his rivals are foot perfect. He has no advantage in BV and this is crucial. This is not against Chinese fed, it's against a much stronger fed.
People should understand that the GOE and PCS will not save him that much. Cause judges are willing to throw them to other guys even with less quality.

I am honestly amazed how much negativity and pessimism is in you.... can you even breath with all these girl? Why to mourn before he actually failed that LP or "at most got bronze" ? why to make assumptions before the time has come? feeding the thread and yourself with negativity, or why are you even mad at him ? do you think you want him to be clean more than he wanted to do? or do you think you know what is the problem and he doesn't? who we are to judge him?! why so greedy, after Boston only thing I wanted to see him skate live once again in my life, praying that injury was not career ending.. he has won already everything and more than everything.. just be happy that he is skating and you have the chance to see it .Think how much happiness he brings when he is on, I am sad that he did mistake in sp and I am praying for his win, still having hopes, but even if he looses or even ends up 3rd it is not the end of the world, see, even he sees the light in the dark, on press conference he said he is happy for his loop finally landed clean and nice, why do we forget that he was back in his schedule because of injury and even by gpf his trainings weren't full time?! wait he is slowly getting there, needs more time and the goal is worlds, the goal is olympics .. 4cc is just another competition to check himself... still don't get why you allow negativity and pessimism eat you. :palmf: Sometimes I really feel bad that I ask too much from him , wait and see what happens on Sunday, if he wins that would be awesome, if not it will be another lesson which he will take at home to work before helsinki , he has to peak for wc yet.. sorry for such a long post but sometimes I really feel sad for this guy .

Before someone sends me into a state of panic can we please do the math? My head is killing me so I don't remember a thing and I'm not counting from the start

Numbers don't lie so can someone who is coherent enough right now just write up Nathan's and Shoma's BV and Yuzuru's BV?
Currently we're at Nathan vs Shoma vs Yuzuru

103.12 vs 100.28 and 97.04

Nathan's PCS should go to 90 for sure (if not higher to 91). Shoma scores what, 93? And for Yuzuru, he had 96 with the iffy GPF skate. Because yes looking like that, it'll be really tight but doable.

Reading a Russian-language forum where an accredited member of the press wrote his/her impressions. He/she said Yuzuru looked irritated while being interviewed by a crowd of journalists - so he's not all that relaxed now. Let's see what it translates into for his FS. He's got to be perfect to win - my expectation is pretty low at this moment, but can one still hope?
But above all I want him to enjoy his skates. And I intend to enjoy what I get if it's half decent. :) Call it a pig-headed form of optimism.

If both are clean Yuzuru will win and Nathan gap in sp wont help, you had trainings with isu specialists, you should know how it will work

For god's sake, I need this. The degree of anxiousness is rising per page!

Yes, everybody could have once-in-a-lifetime skate out there except for Yuzu:palmf:And he will not make 2018 since he is about to lose here. I get your logic, the game is over, so is this conversation.

I have always been a glass half empty kind of person during his competitions but damn some of you guys are making me feel like I'm brighter than the freaking sun.

Whoa are we really going there? Thinking of Bronze as his only possibility?
I don't feel like he skated particularly bad, or that he will have a meltdown and skate so bad at the FS... Sure, i was surprised at the popped sal and everything, but i don't feel like it was that bad...
He might look irritated, could it be because he was too confident? It was really rare to see him like that.
To be honest i'm not expecting a perfect skate, i doubt he is going to nail that Combo of Doom.
A shame, i really wanted him to add the 4cc gold to his collection, but if that means he will be more prepared for World's then i guess i'm ok...
(Still it's hard to shake the "I WANT HIM TO WIN EVERYTHING" feeling... I guess i'll have to live with that hahaha)

Can we all please just slow down? Yes, we're all anxious but if we continue like this we'll just end up with lots of not nice feelings, even to each other and it's not worth it. It's just emotions running high.

So lets see with good old numbers. They don't lie. Then we can see what's realistic, likely or unlikely. So could someone please just spit out the BVs, I'll run the rest of the numbers, no problem.

On the other hand... Nathan's last two FS were perfect, no mistakes. Statistically speaking I don't think he'll be perfect now. We are talking about 4-5 quads here, at some point, the odds come into play.
I say again, if Yuzuru skates clean in the FS, he wins.
