Or that in the grander scheme of things maybe it is just not so wise to do Biellmann anymore? Yes it is one of his "trait" but the strain it put on his back + he has to do crazy amounts of quads + almost no added value in points = letting the Biellmann go.

I hope he is okay though. His upper body movement did seem a bit more reserved.

The good thing about him avoiding all these actions though --> he really is taking care of his body and I'm sure it's getting treated.

Definitely noticed him stiffer. He seems cautious, so you might be right, whatever it is, he is taking care of it. We already got a Crazy Swan, but i loved this Calm Swan a lot.
(If he is nursing something, then today's performance is even more impressive.)
 
I don't mind since it's not his most outstanding signature move. A couple of his competitors do it better :scard7:
 
After having watched him skate at this competition these last few days I think Yuzuru is definitely not over and was so wise to know how to update his BV gradually during the years because he knew his biggest rival would rise even before the next Olympics. He knew the young ones would be hungry after him and be physically apt at doing all the crazy quads in the world. I still feel a sense of regret at him not having managed to grab the last two World titles that were within his reach these last two seasons, because he was undoubtedly the best at the time. But thinking at everything he's been through since he got that Olympic gold, I still think he is one of the most impressive athletes this sport has ever known. He may want to be the absolute champion like Plushenko, the one who never fails, but I think Yuzu is too emotional and sensitive to be that consistent. It is his strength and his curse: to be able of such beauty is because he 'feels' so much, but at the same time his overthinking can sometimes get in the way. And I'm okay with that because he wouldn't be who he his if he wasn't so 'human'. Overthinking can also lead to overtraining and injury, which is another one of his weaknesses, but once again, it is because that fragile-looking body can overcome so much pain that makes him so special. I know I fell in love with his skating when I saw him fall on his quad sal and his 3F at the Olympics, simply because he was able to get up again and never give up. I love his skating maybe because it is so beautiful and flawed at the same time. All this to say that I don't care if he doesn't win everything, I've learnt to live with it, but I am so thankful to him for simply being the way he is and offering us so many memorable performances, because they come from the heart and his guts. I am glad somehow Chen has risen because now the young Yuzu who was chasing after Patrick Chan 'the sun' is shining through again. He'll fight to the end, and maybe this year will he be able to grab that World title that has eluded him in spite of all his efforts. No matter what, we should simply support him in this journey and believe in him. Thank you Yuzu for that beautiful fight in the FS today. Take care of yourself and I hope you'll be in the best shape possible at Worlds :)

I think you are right. It seems that having an actual person that he could chase and overcome is a better motivation to him than having the ghost of his past self to surpass (I am talking about that WR score). That WR score happened because Patrick beat him again. Though at the same time, I hope he will not overexert himself like last season which mmay lead to injuries.

Hanyu's a true fighter. That 3A at the end was just :drama: And a no-fall Hope and Legacy was really nice to watch :)

Hopefully Chen placing first this time will further ignite his fighting spirit for Worlds. And Pyeongchang.

Anyways I'm going to go back uh lurking goldenskate and especially this thread for updates studying for my exams which coincidentally will be around Worlds... I'm crying because how will I be able to concentrate and study and retain all that information in my brain when all I'm thinking about is everyone's planned layouts and stuff?? Especially all those quads. Urgh.

tl;dr good luck Yuzuru for Worlds and don't overtrain.
 
Today, watching the ex, i was reminded of why i love him so much. I realized that I want him to win because i want to see him smile, but the reality is that i just want to see him skate. It amazes me how someone so far away, gliding so gracefully over the ice, is capable of making me feel such things, taking me on an emotional journey that soothes my heart and makes me smile like i hadn't smiled in years. Even if he wasn't the technical monster he is, i'm sure he still would have captured my heart like he did: there was no chance to fight, that young Romeo from 2014 took it and kept it captive for three years popping every now and then until i couldn't ignore him anymore.
I'm so grateful that i can be alive to watch him, and this only chased away any doubt i had: if he's assigned to Skate Canada again, i will be there, no matter that he never wins Skate Canada and his performance isn't stellar there. I want to cheer for him right there, and perhaps take my heart back before he goes, or else I'm afraid it will irremediably live in Japan forever (not that it didn't before).
I'm sure he learned a lot from this competition, and truly became a test for next year. He has another reason to fight, and I'm looking forward to what that inner fire that will be reawakened will bring us.
I'm sorry for this long post, but, who else could understand this if not other people under his spell :)?
 
I don't think he needs Biellmann. It puts too much strain on his back. And it's prone to lose a level in spin when he doesn't make enough turns in Biellmann.

But I'm concerned about the reports of his "stiff upper body" in 4CC. Please no injury, please no injury.
 
He didn't let me down either. I would've loved him to have won but he did a wonderful performance. Congratulations Yuzu!!! :clap:

No surprise that he apologizes, it's typical Yuzuru. :) Even if we were all shooting "WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!" he'd still be like "... still, sorry." :laugh:

I love his Biellmann but if he's dropping it to favor less strain on his back, for sure I'll be ok with it. It's important that he takes care of himself. :yes:

Btw, I know it's OOT, but guests for FaOI 2017 have already started to be announced. No Yuzuru yet, but we know it's generally announced late. So, if some of you plan to go, you may want to check for tickets soon.

To not let that happen again. Because he is the best, and the best should win the Olympics. So let's see. (Of course I want a perfect Hope and Legacy at Worlds and this title, too)
