Neither do Russians really, and they know at least layouts . When Yuzu changed it at 4cc , commentators immediately got what he did and then explained to audience .. they never judge music and choreo :think: , no offences but I have very low esteem of NA "experts," 80 % of them are biased and bring useless stuff while commenting. Its my observation of 2x decade.

People want 'driving' music! They don't want to think (that sounds terrible but it's also true), they want to be swept away by the music that provides on its own something they can latch onto and lose themselves without much effort.
But Hope and Legacy is too opaque. It just won't sit well for most when compared even to an old and overused warhorse. Seimei was such music and it didn't matter that it was Asian and that it was new but it had those points where it drove the audience, on its own, into a state of heightened emotions.

I think he'll have two new programs next year and I'm sure they'll have a care on what to pick. Sometimes playing safe really isn't a bad thing and I think Brian knows that (and apparently already has ideas). Warhorses are warhorses for a reason so if push comes to shove, there're plenty to choose from.

Yes, I also have the same impression that Western commentators are not really into his LP and the music. For American, Canadian or even Western Europeans it would be maybe more understandable, but I thought Central Europeans may like it more. I was wrong, well at least in my country. Anyway, I uploaded Hungarian Eurosport's SP and LP with English subtitles, if anyone is interested. The quality of the video is awful because I can't download/record the programs from ESP player, but I uploaded it because of the commentary. The older lady is critical about H&L, but at the same time she says that LGC is Yuzuru's very best program from the past 3-4 years, included his LPs. And she says that he might keep Let's Go Crazy for the next season.

I really like that Yuzuru decided to chose Japanese-themed music for two consecutive seasons, because I think that these programs suit him a lot, and he performs them very well (though they are different, Seimei was more warrior-like, and H&L is delicate and emotional). Maybe I am into his programs so much because I really like Japanese and in general, Far-Eastern music too.
But in my opinion, it would be better to have a new LP with a warhorse music (I'm not saying something like R&J or POTO, but something which is more popular). He never kept his LP so far and I don't think he would do it for Olympics. But of course we'll see.

Let's hope that Mr. Hanyu will listen to his coach's idea this time. He should know to play it safe when it counts the most. And in this case, it's the music he should play safe.
I know Japanese taste, they prefer subtle things. But the general public, including judges, don't care for subtle things. You have to be in their faces. I have no doubt Mr Hanyu can handle driving and dramatic programs. However will he do it? He is quite stubborn.

I think if Brian straight up says to him 'if you want that 2nd Olympic gold medal you need to have to play safe' he'll probably go with it- I mean it is his lifelong dream and he learnt a bit of a lesson from his LP in Sochi
 
It does not have to be a warhorse, please no, but people do enjoy being swept away by music... which makes a program even better. We think all day long, it's nice to just feel. We want to feel that this is a great program that builds as the skater continues to excel with the execution of the elements. People want a a beginning, middle and an exciting finish. If that's simple, well, it is what it is. Seimei was the perfect choice, but you don't always strike it lucky twice in a row.

Maybe he can just go back to Romeo and Juliet No.1, with different layout. That will work. I have no doubt. This is men skating, you show them drama. It has always been this way for many decades.
I think his PCS at WC won't reach 97-98. So maybe that will be a sign for him to change LP.
 
He can go for RJ3 , I mean Prokofiev is still there :laugh:

I really don't think he's going to keep any of his programs for next year.
 
He can stick to Japanese and still be dramatic. Case in point, pick anything with taiko (the drums), there are plenty incorporated with instrumental music and he's on his way.

If not, as I said, a warhorse is a warhorse.
 
OH, I love the taiko drums. There does not even have to be instrumental music with them. I think it would be embraced by everyone, east or west, and he could pull it off.

I know this isn't the same thing, but I LOVED Midori It's sp music in Calgary. Everyone loved it... or maybe just her, LOL. Still one of my favourite sp's of all time, by anyone.

Prokofiev for RJ3? LOL. The trifecta! I don't think I've met RJ music that I haven't liked.
 
Didn't Brian say something about how Javi and Yuzu were saving their best music for the Olympic year? I can't recall where I heard or read that but I don't think I dreamt it.
 
If skating to Romeo and Juliet will make him win in Olympic (again), I'm not against it lol

Well, I hope he really choose the best music for Olympic and skate it well.. ^^
