Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Yayyy thanks prof as always.
Glove talk! Non-fans maybe see Yuzu as primarily a great jump technician, but for me, Yuzu's hands movements are often a big part of what I enjoy about his programs.

As for hand movements I think he improved them even more this season. Look at his Swan!

Also, this is so random but I was born in August 1991.... what does that mean...

I feel so old right now...I remember Brian Orser at 1988 Olympics, he was my favourite skater then...

we love Hana Ni Nare so much and Requiem too. but the Swan topped the Requiem due to the deep V back.

I thought H&L one lacks something as well, but it was so beautiful when I saw it at 4CC, especially under the spotlight. I have a mix feeling about it.

I just love Yuzu in LGC white costume, he looked so innocent. the purple one is sinful for me, i just looked at the places I shouldn't pay attention to, so I have mix feeling about it again.

About NDP, I don't like the cross, same with you. other than that, I love Yuzu in Pink (my fav colour).

But I have to admit, my no. 1 would be the boobskirt. I know my taste is very unusual. I just found the design so good and the reign stones were so beautifully and strategically attached. and it made Yuzu looked like a Prince, so dreamy.

H&L costume looks much better live, but it still is not one of my favourites. NDP without the cross could be much better. Probably it is the program itself that ruins also the costume. What a waste of talent.

This is going to be way long, and a major labor of love Props to fishheadanon for proofreading and telling me when something isn't really English. :luv17:

About the interview: I love that he's a huge nerd about jumps, specifically axels. He also talked at length about how he added hand movements to LGC during the spins. Also people who were hoping for a more pronounced H&L, I don't think it's what he is going for. But who knows what exactly does a program that envelops the arena look like? He may yet show us in Helsinki

Exactly the same as mine! The top three does interchange at times though.

Er... did we ever attempt to establish the relative geography of the posters here? I'm from Moscow, so it's 6 p.m. here - a very convenient time to post... (though I can also be found at ungodly hours too)

Anyway I just finished reading that translated interview from ice jewels (wow, so long, gladiolusc you are an angel). It is really good to know his in-depth thinking and analysis about his program and after his performance at every competition. Without realizing I nodded at everything he said, even the part where he kind of scolded himself (lol) because inside I was thinking same kid, same.
So most interesting part for me:
1. He is indeed still uncomfortable with the second half salchow, so it is both mind and body problem?
2. Good to know that axel is the most important jump for him (not that I'm surprised. but still it's good hearing it from his own mouth) and come rain or shine he would still do 2 3As.
3. From his interview at NHK he seemed to not be interested in adding more quads (re:4Lz etc) but from his 4CC interview it seems like his demeanor changed (he said he did not know yet what jump he will do at the Olympics and even mentioning doing 5 quads). Would be interesting to know how things will play out for Oly after worlds. :think:

ETA : Also good to hear about how he lamented about his spins. I felt the same way (as in, I felt the quality of his spin this season is kind of not as good as what he is usually capable of and he is so self-observant that he realized this too). Good to hear from his perspective about why he was struggling with it. In fact, it is really good to hear about his explanation about why he was strugglling with other aspects of his skate too, like SS, transition, jumps etc. What a lovely article and what a lovely interview. I feel like the interviewer is my soul twin, because if there is a chance of asking him questions those would be what I would have asked

Hmmm, here are my costumes rankings, though these are very loosely ranked since I tend to like pretty much all the blingy stuff he brings to the table. The more overstated, colorful, blinged out mess, the better I like it. Honestly, if I wanted shirts and suspenders, I'd watch tap dancing.

1. Chopin (the latter v.1 version, with more blue, mostly - this is my favorite because I feel like his lines are so accentuated with this outfit that it's just so aesthetically pleasing to me; also I prefer the silvery belt to the gold belt of v.2, but I still really love v.2's top)
2. Etude (perfect asymmetry and tone change)
3. The Swan (that back! :luv17
4. Seimei (though I think I like the ice show version a bit better?)
5. LGC (Purple version; pants of Sin, yes please)
6. Requiem (I don't care if he's a sea lettuce, it's amazing!)
7. H&L (gorgeous colors again)
8. RJ 2 (I love the waist in particular, how the white top melts into the black pants. Boobskirt notwithstanding, I really love that top too)
9. RJ 1 (I really love the gloves on this one)
10. Hana Ni Nare (lovely)
11. NDP (I actually really like it, except for the cross, but he always seemed so thin in it. I'd love to see him wear it now he's a bit more... muscly? I do love the details on the pants)

To be honest, this order is always changing depending on my mood and which video I'm watching at the time, anyways.

Since we know his next jump coming up was 4Lz, a toe jump, I can see how he might not have been as enthusiastic about it when he felt like he had the choice?

And yes, about the soul twin!!! It's why I was so excited about translating and sharing this one. He was able to go in-depth into so many different aspects about his programs, that don't usually get asked.

1. Yeah, no idea if it is still bothering him or not, but at least up until post-GPF it is still bothering him.
2. I actually agree with him 100%. I know some people said 3A is overrated, especially when you can exchange it with quads nowadays. It only matters in juniors because you can't quad in SP. However, it is literally a jump you cannot escape because it is a required jump in both SP and LP. You can't afford to botch this
3. There is that, but at the same time I think he probably is looking at his competitors (and how judges marked them) too. They are delivering 4-5 quads now and (kind of) actually landing them. Also, he seems to be the type who don't want to depend on other people's mistake for him to win. I guess he is considering the advantages and disadvantages of it. He probably initially thought that 4 would be enough for oly, as long as he is clean and delivering it with good quality. But at 4CC I sensed he began to question that.

Yuzu's enthusiasm for his 3a matches my enthusiasm for his 3a hahaha I'm glad he's reluctant to cut down on them, they are always great to see.

I respect how he doesn't seem to want to add new jumps in until he can land them somewhat consistantly with steps so they have flow in the choreography, I hope the age of quads doesn't make him rush into adding 4lz before he thinks it's ready...
I mean, I still don't think he needs to add anything for worlds to potentially win gold, even if the crazy kids with 5 quads skate clean, because Yuzu clean will edge them out in GOE and PCS, but for the olympics I think it's natural he'd want to add another quad to meet the competition, and I kind of assume he was already sorta preparing for that possibility.
