Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

So he's a tech judge, if I understand well ? Is he still judging ? Often ?

Well, if you remember CoC 2016 when Ashley Wagner received hundreds of carrots and finished 6th thus missing the grand prix final, our beloved Shin Amano was the tech panel

He is a love-him-or-hate-him type of person. If your fave is a chronic UR/flutzer/lipper you would hate him, I guess. Some others love how strict he is. But honestly, I think he is fair? As in, he is harsh to everybody, which is arguably better than those who are lenient to everybody (or the worst, harsh on a few selected only and super lenient to others)

P.S : He is affiliated to cricket club from what I know, don't know if he still is.

Well that was the best judged ladies event this season, not like NHK and GPF when whole panel played blinds on wrong edges and urs :dev2:

It is hilarious tbh, because many top ladies would have scored horribly had Amano was the tech. Seriously if you know that he is the tech you better pray that your fave fully rotate their jumps and don't leave a single room of doubt. Many people are angry at him for that CoC result, but if you checked the slowmo, all the jumps that he called UR are indeed UR so...

ETA: Is he still in TCC? I saw someone (?) was coached by him or something? Or not?

Mao's fans hate him as death but which of Mao's jumps he called and it was unfair ? The guy is doing his job without any bias and he is one of the fewest who actually does his job well. I really wish he judged as many events as possible. Davis is very good tech specialist as well but his obsession are levels ))
( I will never forgive him giving SEIMEI's original stsq level 2 and making Yuzu change it, but those are my own sentiments)

He is GPF 2015 tech panel for Men right? He is super strict and give out those level 3 on steps that Yuzuru still cry about

But honestly though, I prefer strict panelist who is not biased like that. Even if that means my fave (read: Yuzuru) would suffer when he makes mistakes, I know that others rightfully will too. All is fair. :dev2:

I think for worlds he was the tech for ladies? Not men? I don't know my memory is blur but I remembered there was ruckus for UR calls too

I admit I would really be curious to see what the scores would be if the ISU rules were applied textbook.

LMAO same! I was just thinking that scoring for worlds would be really interesting if they had a strict, harsh tech panel.....

Maybe they limit him or he is reluctant for Men's event because he is still affiliated with TCC? Though he was tech when other TCC skaters compete too in ladies so I am not sure it actually matters.

This is very vaguely related to the current topic---it's about Worlds. How do they assign the practice groups before they do the SP? If they do it by ranking, all the top contenders would be in the same group!

BTW, was able to pre-order the AnAn (out on March 22) with Yuzu on the cover, from Amazon Japan this morning. Now I only have to accept the postage

Haha, yeah at this point I really rather tech panelist be strict. It's just very unfair to other skaters if clear UR/edges/etc that can be seen with the naked eye don't get called, not to mention it actually hurts the skater because they don't get an incentive to improve their technique... and I imagine not the best reputation for both the skater and the judges either, since we're in the internet age and everyone can replay 10000 times and then shout at each other about it...

Usually for ISU championship events it is by country first --> then draw based on rankings. So you would see 2 different practice groups at least for the first days?
