Why is the hydroblade so hard for some? Gracie tried to do it in her SP this season and it never, ever worked.

Yuzuru spoiled me so much I can't enjoy common ina bauers or hydroblades anymore especially if they are not held long enough :drama:

Yeah, folks, I know I'm addicted now... but I've got around ten YT videos open on my computer, and I want to close at least one. So another translation from 2012.

The first day of men’s competition will be closed with the SP of last year’s revelation, Yuzuru Hanyu, the Bronze medallist of the World Championship in Nice. The winner of Moscow Grand Prix event last year. I remember him winning the event – he needed to win to get to the GPF. He came fourth in the GPF, then came the stunning skate at the World Championship – he won Bronze medal at his first WC.

He also starts with 4T – now we’ll see this quad. You can judge by the audience’s response that the athlete has landed a fantastic quad.

(in a slightly more animated manner) Well, this guy is just 17! He’ll turn 18 in December. He’s a major hope of Japanese men’s skating, with a brilliant result last season and you can feel that he’s going to surprise us quite a lot. A wonderful SP, he was so confident while performing it, he’s undoubtedly a super-talented skater. Now he lives in Canada, in Toronto. He moved there to train with Brian Orser, a brilliant coach who was once a brilliant skater himself, silver medallist in two Olympic Games, 1984 and 1988. There he is greeting his student. Indeed, it was a stunning program – let’s see: a fantastic 4T. In fact, Yuzuru (or Oozuru, as he pronounced it) didn’t have any problems with his jumps. There you can see once a brilliant skater, now an outstanding coach applauding him. A splendid 3A impeccably executed. The program itself is very exciting, and the skater himself is both emotional and graceful (or elegant). He delivered everything in this program, so we should expect to see a high score. By the way, he received his highest score for the SP so far in Moscow – 82.78, and I’ve a feeling that this result will be surpassed now. I think two Japanese will be at the top… 95.07! Of course, I expected him to improve on his result, but to do it by so much! By more than 12 points! 95.07 – that’s a tremendous achievement!

I don't know if it would be considered a signature move but his Besti squat...j'adore. Perfect turn out and beautiful plie in second position. And he does it with his legs at a 50 degree angle to the ice. Talk about deep edges. I can't imagine the core and thigh strength needed to hold that whilst moving sideways. Also, glutes. Hence why his pants are such a popular topic of discussion.

Actually, I don't think hydroblade is considered a difficult move? Even many adult level skaters or beginner skaters can do it, from what I know. I read you need good control of edges, strong legs and good upper body control but I would expect most top skaters are capable of doing it especially with hand support. There are many variations too, with or without hand, with both hands, and inside edge one is arguably easier than the outside edge one. Whether you do it well or not is a different matter. It is just like cantilever or ina bauer, everybody can do it but to what extent they can do it well.

About gracie i think it is her choreography that is weird, not that she can't hold it for long and unable to do that.

amazing things

good addiction :laugh2: for the rest of us.

Yuzu clockwise is a surreal experience, actually. Suddenly I lose my ability to count rotations. Blink. also he looks really good mirrored, is that how he sees himself? :o

and I'm right on it this time, sorry about yesterday! Added to the spreadsheet :p

Agreed. The besti squat in H&L step sequence is to die for <3

So you're saying i could do it :eeking:? Ughh i need that ice rink here NOW!! </3 why are they taking so long?

Speaking of which, i was watching this video because i thought it would be interesting to see Yuzu without jumps+spins. I have to admit, i was trying to concentrate on what he was doing to analyze it in the most objective way and halfway through, i stopped thinking, i was just letting myself be guided by him. (And the flow was interrupted by the cuts!) I quoted you because i noticed that i wasn't analyzing him when he did the besti squat, i went "wow that's so beautiful" and immediately after "...it's not like it's the first time you see it!" No matter how many times i watch it, i'm still surprised by how beautiful it is.

Of course  You can take adult skating class, you don't have to jump there ;) There are many adult figure skating championships too :yahoo:

Honestly, if they told me "you can skate but you can't compete" i would still do it because i fell in love with the sensation of gliding on the ice </3 my heart aches because i can't skate, and it has been like that since i was little, that's why i stopped following fs until Yuzu appeared and ruined everything

Me too. How many times have I looped through his step sequence video now, to brush up on footwork. Halfway through, I've forgotten what I was doing and just thoroughly engrossed.

I prefer Layback Ina bauer over Hydroblade anytime.

my fav is ofc his Ina bauer on RJ02, esp in JNats, got me chill everytime

Really, now?
:laugh2: Joking haha.
I liked the little change he made to the ina bauer in h&l, i was sad that he didn't do it at 4cc. We talked about how it felt a bit rushed at the beginning of the season but that little change made it look a thousand times better...

Jumping is so fun though  When I practice as an adult skater I need to force myself to do X rounds of edges, 3-turns, etc. because otherwise I would be jumping (singles at most but still...) all day and I wouldn't even realize
