I'm also looking forward to seeing what music he chooses! He's skated to quite a variety I think even if isn't something I'm into I'd still be interested to see how he turns it into something great! I didn't really fancy H&L myself but watching him skate it it definitely grew on me :luv17:

I've been listening/watching this fanvid all through worlds to pump me up and man would I love if he ever skated an EX with this song! It would be a great one to do as like, his last EX before retiring from competitions ;) Just to make a point :devil:

And, yes, I think that his alien ethereal and androgynous style in H&L is not everybody's cup of tea, and that he makes his program look so easy that plenty of people must think that it is indeed easy (scoop : it's not)... Something tells me that I wouldn't get along well with this kind of people anyway :)
I just doubt that a "cold and unpassionate skater" would make thousands of people people travel from the other side of the world just to watch him skate for a few minutes. :)

Yuzu is definitely the exception. I haven't done this for any other skater and I doubt I would for any other skater anytime soon. My first worlds in 2003, I was lucky to attend because it was local. It was in Washington DC, and I live in the Washington DC area so that was easy (and also better financially because I was only 17). Fast-forward 13 years later to Boston and I went because it wasn't a long trek. But I didn't feel like I got the whole experience only coming for the men's LP and pairs SP. So I opted for Finland so I could take everything in, even the practices. If I was going to go that far, I wanted to see as much Yuzu as I could. But so that I didn't put my eggs in one basket I didn't want to go to this worlds SOLELY for Yuzu (because I didn't know how things were gonna go... and then after that SP...), but if Yuzu wasn't going to be at worlds I was definitely not going to be there. Going to this competition expecting a win though...it's a looong way to go for uncertainty. So I was trying to be reasonable with my expectations (which is why at first I just wanted a great SP from him).

Anw, I decided to be more active in this forum, and realized that I haven't properly introduced myself.
Hello everyone! You can call me Lev here. Used to be a big fan of skating before, from Sasha Cohen days until Kim Yuna. I had an account here before too (forgot the login details already tho). But when Sochi incident happened, I was really mad I promised myself to stop following judged sports like figure skating.
But sometime last year, I stumbled upon Yuzuru Hanyu's Seimei video in youtube. It was NHK I think. When I saw that I was like "HOLY CRAP... Who is this guy? That was genius skating!!!"
And since that faithful day, God knows what happened lol.

So yea, hopefully I get to meet a lot of fellow skating enthusiasts here and have some fun and fruitful discussions too!

P.S.: Currently waiting for PyeongChang balloting result.. Hopefully my friend's friend in Korea can get it. Please pray for me haha!

Yay! Always love meeting fellow Sasha Cohen ubers! I was on here as well back in the day. But I had to make a new account. Hope to see you in PyeongChang! We'll cheer on our guy together! It seems like you were very similar to me, but for me it was late 2013 when I saw him do PW. I instantly became hooked and wanted him to go to the Olympics and win, lol. He seemed so solid. I didn't know what kind of roller coaster ride I'd be in for :laugh:.

Thursday morning practice for the SP I was on the side where Yuzu did the 4 loop and he did an adorable smile to our section during his run through, and that's not even where the camera could capture his face (it'd could only get the back of his head). So he cares about his performance and cares about his audience and he can absolutely engage a crowd no matter what he is doing. I couldn't take my eyes off him.

Especially during, Notte stellata, it is just evident; the way he accentuate the beat and highlight of the music with his body, hand movement to his finger. I think it would be nice if he actually seriously develop on it, imo, take actual dance classes of that style and make that style his trademark in figure skating. It's not like FS has to be balletic, I think it was since skaters like curry who start making FS more "balletic" in a sense that "commentators" start expecting more "balletic" skaters? Skaters before him is not really "balletic" imo. (I would not even say current skaters as "balletic" too, never considered plush or yags to be "balletic", for example)

Well, then it means he might go for programs with similar style for the Oly season, I'd guess. Would be fine with me, I adore both :luv17:

He thought that way? Interesting.

Well, PW opened him up to a different style where he could explore himself as a firecracking performer (despite my not really liking that program). Notte stellata displays hanyu's raw skating in its simplicity - soft gliding and flowing movements. It is two-side of a coin that shows best of (his) both worlds. :biggrin:

But personally, I think the combo of chopin and seimei is the personification of what he is, at his best, as a skater. Both programs are embodiment of grace, beauty and elegance; yet chopin gave more delicate, soft, floaty, exquisite impression while seimei gave that strong, fierce, intense. commanding and powerful impact. It is almost like those two programs are the manifestation of his best traits in skating; and it stays as my no 1 and 2 :love:

To be fair, I only have a list of favourites. I cannot choose a favourite one when it comes to Yuzu, it depends on my mood that day. R&J1.0, PW, Seimei, Chopin, Notte Stellata, H&L etc.

Well said. And both are Olympic-caliber programs.

100% agree. Chopin and Seimei would have made a perfect combination for Olympics. Let us hope Yuzuru and his team come up with something similar for the next season. I am sure Jeffrey and Shae-Lynn will make decent programs with whatever music they choose.
 
Yuzu is smart tho, So I believe he already know what's the kind of best program for Olympic
Chopin and Seimei combo was iconic, hard to top it imo, but personaly I want him to skate LP with Chopin music next season.
like everyone said in this board, You can't go wrong with Chopin.

It was extremely exciting and moving all at once, and it was so much fun meeting some of you in Helsinki. Hopefully next season we will have many more chances to rejoice like the way we did here!
