Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I think his plans for next season will also depend in part of what happens at WTT. I'm not yet sure what Nathan is planning but if he brings in a redemption skate with 6 landed quads, we (and Yuzu) might see how the dice rolls in terms of what will be needed next year.

That will only add an extra 1.8 points at best, with even a much higher risk :p Unless he has a -3Lo combo, doing 5-quad FS with 4 type of quad will not raise his BV that much (and is not worth it imo).

Meanwhile a layout like this : 4Lz 4Lo 4T /// 4S3T 3Lz3Lo 4S 3Alo3S 3A would have BV of 115.83 (and if he does 3Alo3F, it will be +/- 1 point higher). It is about the same as 6-quad layout with repeating 4Lz and 4F. :coffee:

Okay, so the solution is to train -3Lo. He should talk to his Russian lady friends for tips!

I think the influx of Yuzu fans can be categorized as follows:

-The post R&J1 fans era
-The post Sochi fans era I belong here:hap85:
-The post YOI fans era

And our family is getting bigger and bigger :hap85::dance3:
I belong to pre RJ1 era, No category for me? We need veteran category too 😂😂

That because everyone expects him to be always perfect. Well, it doesn't always work this way. :slink:

This is so weird, though, because as far as I know, he's only been perfect in two competitions in the 7 years of his senior career?

Interesting article because even Orser said recently that he is still not sure what Yuzuru's plan is.
Looks to me that at the beginning of the season he really intended to do the same layout that he did in this season for the olympic year. Yet now he seems to (still) contemplate whether he really should upgrade or not. He knew that adding a new jump would make him less consistent and he experienced how it hurt his reputation (and PCS too) in a sense. But at the same time he is aware he really can't give reasons to judges (and that he does not want to depend on others making mistakes for him to win) - over 10 points BV difference is not really something he can cover with just PCS and GOE. What would Yuzuru do?

I really don't think that was it. The men are pretty much all inconsistent, and truth be told, I actually think Yuzu had a really good season. It's not as if we had clean skates by the men all the time. He never had any real disasters, closest being the GPF LP but he still won that event... Javi was way more inconsistent, but his scores didn't go down at all. Maybe the judges really 'didn't like' H&L, but honestly, that's a really dumb argument too

Anyway, I was sure he'd add 4Lz next season at the beginning of this, and I still think so. But I thought he might stick with 4 quads in the LP, and now I doubt it. Right now, I'd bet on 4lz and 5 quads and I wouldn't even be surprised if he repeats the 4Lo and goes for 4Lo3T in the 2nd half :palmf:

Given Javis latest interview (where he directly said he wonders if his time focusing on skating skills was wasted because 'now another skater with quads but no skills gets the PCS'), I wonder if they sometimes talk about stuff like that. I have this mental image of Javi dragging Yuzu to a bar after an event to toast with PChiddy to the good old time when 90+ PCS was rare and special

I always thought if someone must know what it's like for Yuzuru, it's Mao. She was a young prodigy too with huge expectations on her shoulders. They didn't seem close but like they enjoyed each other's company still.

Also... Did Yuzuru lose fans after Boston? I remember when I first came on goldenskate at the end of 2015, the Yuzuru Hanyu fanfest was always the one at the top all the time, but now it's often down the list by five. I wonder if it's because there are less things to post because people don't talk about him as much, because there isn't much new content about him like shows and stuff, or because less people participate in this thread. It feels weird

Well.. I don't know if he lose fans after Boston because I'm a new fans after NHK 2016  so he doesn't need to worry , he has many fans who stay and come.

:otopic:
And also the both arms raised thing which I think started at NHK Trophy 2015 SP

I think that is more like adding a flair to his starting stance or something. Or it is just me.

I am not really worried about these rituals because I know he is aware of them. He will make sure it will not affect him when it really matter.

Though I wonder if the thing with Pooh is a ritual or just an urge. Whenever I see something fluffy I always have the urge to squash it , so maybe he has the same issue with Pooh

Indeed. He deserve more credits than we give to him. I believe he will do something about it. He had already shown us what he is capable of. Seriously i'm still in awe with the feat he had pulled off at Helsinki. Though seeing him rushed to the center on the rink before his fs make me feels bad for him. Like he had done something really bad and he trying hard to fix it. Well, it does cost him 1 point deduction though.

Confession time! I do watch YOI, but it not the anime that leads me to him. I think i found him on tumblr and i remember the first video of him that i had seen was his autumn classic 2016 fs. I get interested and then i watched his PW at Sochi. Yeah, you all can guess what that video had done to me with him being all flirty and cute. I fell in love and there no turning back. No regrets really, more like i felt blessed with his existence.
Pardon my english...

It is, even the british uncles - no2 boyfans commentators (no1 are the italian uncles  IMO) were talking about him after SP like he was already in the past. I didn't liked it at all. Like he's not allowed to make mistakes! Weird, indeed! :scratch2:

Well, people expect more from him, and it is (partially) because his early events were in Canada. He received 86 PCS and 88 PCS at ACI and SC, respectively. And the FS at AC + SP at SC were not good and kind of a disaster, I have to admit (other than that his other events are fine). That somehow worked as a baseline for his PCS afterwards, where he got 92 in a more neutral place. Javi actually skated really well at his early events like JO, CoR and TDF and it left the impression to the judges that he is in a good shape even from the beginning of the season; Shoma too. Yuzu only started putting out good skates by NHK; and by that time, Boston-AC-SC back-to-back left an impression that he was not in top shape (like hello ofc he was not, he broke his ligament :hopelessness:)

I am still 50-50 on his next layout. It seems like he is still doubting whether it is better to YOLO all the quads or go for the safer route (the interview Marin translated clearly said so). He would train the 4Lz at the off-season that is for sure, but I am still 50-50 now about his 4Lz in his layout.

About Javi, like... I understand his frustration. But it is a bit funny coming from him because the judges were more than ready to give him the title and all the points at Helsinki. It was because he did not land his things, not because others out-quad him and received higher PCS. I am sure under the circumstances where he's clean and Nathan landed 6 quads, the judges would still give it to him in the end. And had he not improve his SS I don't think he would have received >90 PCS (I meant many even still argue that his current PCS now is still too high compared to someone like Chan, for example).

I belong to pre RJ1 era, No category for me? We need veteran category too 😂😂

For some reason, I think I deleted my post when I'm meant to edit it. Haha

So reposting this to include the first category:

I think the influx of Yuzu fans can be categorized as follows:

-The pre r&J1 fans era (as per Marin, The VETERAN Category:biggrin:)
-The post R&J1 fans era (The Young Romeo era )
-The post Sochi fans era I belong here (The boobskirt era :laugh2:)
-The post YOI fans era (The YOLO quad and axel era)

And our family is getting bigger and bigger

I think so.. This season he had a good result. Now he also had a good 4Lo and more consistent as we seen at World's, it's perfect!

4Lo3T? How about 4S3T (will he remove it for next season? As we know the rate of success he land it at the competition was low)? Is it risky to use 4Lo3T? Which one is hard?

This is a really interesting layout, huge BV

Risk/reward assessment: 4Lz - seems to be a jump where it is more normal to fall rather than pop, I think? (though Yuzuru has singled his 3Lz :gaah:)? Also difficult due to the jump's technique to get good GOE perhaps? 3Lz3Lo - would probably be difficult to get good GOE for. Also if he pops any of the two jumps that is a huge point loss (and if trying to improvise there's a great risk of Zayak). Is it weird that I find him having 3A as his last jump kinda calming?. I really wish there was some footage of Yuzuru doing two-jump combos with -3Lo. GPF16 practice does suggest that he has been thinking of it as an alternative...

What is the absolute highest BV possible with his three quads right now if doing a four quad program? Perhaps with a -3Lo combo. I will go and try to work it out. Don't think he can move 4Lo to the second half, nor do I think he will do 4Lo3T if I'm honest. He stated that he still needs to work on the jump. He does seem to quite seriously consider the 4Lz though... I mean 60% is not bad Also how stressed will we be if he falls on his 4S-combos at WTT?

Having a similar BV is good in my opinion since the risk of not going clean is high amongst all the top skaters due to their tech difficulty, but at the same time Yuzuru, even though he probably deserved higher GOEs at World, still gets quite a lot of GOE-points, and (I think) relative to the rest of the field? Maybe we should calculate the average amount of GOE-points the different skaters get...

4lo is harder 12,0 BV. 4S - 10,5 BV.

Actually, yes. As far as I know, Yuzuru and Shoma were the only men this season to be in the podium in every competition they participated in. And this season actually ended a lot better than last season. I might consider this season more successful, I think, than even the record-breaking 2015/2016. WTT incoming still, though. I'm hoping for a good LGC send-off (knock on wood), which will be the icing on the cake.

4Lo 4S 3F /// 4S3T 3Lz3Lo 4T 3Alo3S 3A = BV 107.63

ETA : the perks of having 4-quad program with 4-type of quad is we don't have to worry for +COMBO deduction. He can just attach the 3T to his next jump, whether the 4T or the 3Lz (lol the horror).
