Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Watching the press con, I felt we would not know the layout of the programs until the actual competition (besides no 4Lz). He was answering the question reading something, I'm wondering if it was his "skate notebook" :)

It was very nice almost all journalists were saying "thank you for coming back", "we were waiting for you.":sad21: :agree:

Ok, I've just watched the whole interview at the press conference again, and it was not "almost all journalists" but "some Japanese reporters (including Shuzo Matsuoka)". I'm sorry, I was so happy that I became too dramatic. :o:

I am happy that he is being careful in the practice sessions and that he has his eyes on his goal.

I have a question though: Will the practice FS layout (from Jackie Wong: 4S,4T,3F / 4S3T,4T1/2Lo3S,3A2T,3Lo,3Lz) be enough given that the others will be doing 5-6 quad layout? I am not so familiar with the differences in base value of the jumps, so I don't know where Yuzu is in the equation.

I mean, Yuzu scored 330 with just 4T and 4S. He could definitely win without 4Lo

Yuzuru is sounding confident, looking well and healthy, and that's all I needed! I believe in whatever he does, he sounds really confident. Incredibly happy to see him

I think it's going to depend on the separation the judges will give in the PCS and to an extent the skate order. I think I might have gone blind from the PCS being handed out in the team SP :drama:

I’m actually pleasantly surprised at how confident he sounds! That’s great :)

Shizuka says his 4T is amazing and looking sharp, he seems he is not doing 4Lo since its take-off is on the right foot so perhaps he is taking it cautiously. She also said in another show that he had been making sure of the route to 4Lo.

We shall have to wait and see. He has to be foot perfect for one, and on the other hand, don't disregard the judges who have been upping the scores of everyone basically. Nathan has a massive BV advantage with this, and USFSA has been pushing hard. What do you think happens if by some miracle he lands all six quads in his FS? What if Shoma lands his five and he's closer to Yuzuru in the scores he receives, and it's less of a stretch than Nathan's six? So yes Yuzuru can but the word definitely gives me unpleasant shivers. Lets not tempt fate.

With this layout he gives 16 pts bv advantage to Nathan with 6 quads, 6 points advantage to Shoma. He needs to be clean , clean . I guess he will do SP and LP layout will be decided after that.

I said he 'could' definitely win with 4T and 4S, just like he might not! His BV will be undeniably lower than Nathan's and Shoma's. This is a fact. He needs to be clean, this is also a fact. His 330 WR was done with those 2 quads, this is also a fact.

Everything else, we shall have to wait to know! :) But it was Yuzu himself in the PC who said that he feels that he will win if he's clean - whether that's true or not, it's in the judges' hands :)

Oh it's 6 with Shoma, thank you, I keep forgetting to look that up.
Yes, pretty much. He has to be foot perfect (and he looks amazing to my eyes based on yesterday, and I'd say disregarding the quads, he looks better than before. Just skating itself looks better though of course, I fully admit I was so eager to see him so I might be imagining. But I genuinely don't think I am. Anyway, even with that, it's still first comp after a long time) so yes, I've been thinking the same thing. Depending on how the SP goes he can decide whether to risk the Loop or not.

I was a bit uneasy when I read he popped the solo sal in the run through. But looking at the video it seems like it was intended? He didn't get into the tight air position :scratch3:

I was thinking he was going for a different jump and suddenly decided to change it to sal, missed the timing and popped... That layout he did looks like a combination of 3 different choreography... That's what makes me think he really is considering different options for his FS and today was just warm up day to check things up.uty
His combination quads were thing of beauty tho, both in RT and 4T3T out of it. They look so effortless.

if he skates short program like at autumn classic judges gonna go with him

Yes but he needs to deliver FS as well, He did perfectly clean SP in Boston and we all remember what happened 2 days after . Basically he needs a clean sp and almost clean LP, with this bv he can't afford any pop or fall. Maybe just couple of wobbles..... not bigger mistakes than that.
