Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

McD knows how to capitalize on every marketing opportunity, lol.
If they succeed in asking Yuzuru to be product ambassador, better.

if its would be anything close to Yuna's commercial i would be over the moon!

https://twitter.com/Iron_Klaus/status/968753759164731392 Some translation from the Kahoku press conference.

“what has motivated me is my (strong) belief in what I aspired to as a child . I didn’t quit because I felt what I could do was special. It was difficult financially and my teachers really put in a lot of work so that I could be better . Personally the only dream that has come true for me is winning gold ( at the Olympics) .There are many dreams that were thrown away.”

Just one dream has come true, many were thrown away. I'm very impressed and touched by Yuzu's words, we will never know what he has really gone through.

I know it sounds like a lot now but this is all very good for him. You cannot get this type of exposure easily, it's rare that it happens so that he's getting all these opportunities, and using them to the fullest, is the best thing even if it is tiring. I'm sure he's taken into account the need to see a doctor and has it all planned out. But maximizing now is something he should be doing so I'm glad that he is. It raises the value of his name, ie his brand, even more so and all of this will matter to him in his life post skating.

totally understand he have to do it, and its best timing and opportunity to do it now. I just can’t stop worrying, just like how Yuzu can’t stop worrying about Shoma.
(Sho, stay that way so we could have Yuzu for a couple more years)

Yuzu trolling the Olympics for forbidding his Pooh from sitting next to him. They finally give in a publish on their official channel.

I know right? Also, what is this recent fixation of his on Pooh's forest ahah has he recently watched Winnie the Pooh movies?

"Once I learn a lot for the English..." - Yuzuru's number 1 enemy: English

He said it wan't a joke but he liked the phrase, it was a fantasy that he likes to contemplate.

Ok guys, I tried to post link of translation of interview with ZHao Hong Bao, now head coach of figure skating in China. THere are parts he mentioned and commented on Yuzuru's performance in regards to 2018 Olympics.

But the mods removed the link, so look for it in Twitter ya.

Let me try again with the original video :

Zhao comments on Yuzuru from 25 min onwards. Interview in mandarin for those who understand chinese

____________________________
Zhao complemented on Yuzu's great mental strength in overcoming injury, using his experience from 2014 - to perform even better than in practice. Usually when it's great pressure, the athlete will perform worse than in practice but Zhao said Yuzu is the other way, better than in practice.

One point I find interesting is that Zhao said after each cycle/competition the judges will gather for discussion and replay the best competitors. They discuss and come to conclusion which is the dominant trend for the time. After 2017 Worlds, they concluded unless Yuzu make a huge error, the gold is his.
I reckon Zhao meant this is Yuzu's dominant era, the OG gold is his unless he flops big time.

Other aspects interviewer ask is Yuzu's dedication to the extent of designing his own costume, music editing- Zhao said this is a skater's discipline
On Yuzu Studying human anatomy during ankle injury - Zhao is of opinion an athlete does that so that he can recover faster like Zhao was when he injured his Achilles tendon. Since much time is spent in bed(they are thinking injured means stuck in bed), one starts to visualize skating movements and of course the injured body part.

Since he was answering the question about next season's programs and he does not have ideas in mind yet , he just extended that to "maybe more programs with emphasis on my own culture" as an answer to the question.
There they fade away. My daydreams of Yuzu doing 'Men in Black'-SP with 4A in Vancouver :sad21:

I know, the probability of that scenario was ridiculously low anyway, but damn. MIB with Misha as choreographer... the mere thought gives me goosebumps every single time

That´s really something, you are really good
So I want the opinion of japanese speaking fans, I fount this tweet about Yuzuru´s FCC declarations

Do you think that was the intention of the declaration, because I took it as historically FS was from Europe so skaters in Asia feel that they need to use music from Europe/ America, that most fan can understand, and that he really liked and was proud of music and art in Japan and wanted to use this more in his programs... can I have your opinions.

If you think this topic should not be discuss I will delete this post...

My guess of his intention:
He is competing the sport having western origin. His Japanese predecessors had many challenges because of their physics, cultural difference of artistry and musicality etc. in the past. And he knows the history.

But finally he proved that he could win the Olympic by using a music from his origin.
That means a lot to him because they just appreciated his outstanding technique and performance in the sport, not how good he is in the western cultural context.

Though he has mastered the techniques and artistic skill in its frame of "figure skating", I think he feels a lot more confident of expressing his cultural background now.

I don't think his remark was political one, rather he just indicated the history of figure skating from a Japanese perspective. Plus, he said "自分の国の音楽や独特な文化を持つ曲が増えるきっかけになればと", so I think his wish is clear. He thinks it would be great if more music from various cultures could appear in the competition.

Thank you to all that have shimmed in...

This is the way I have understood his statement, but since I don´t speak japanese was wondering if he say something that the translator didn´t say.
