Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

This guy takes recycling to whole new levels. I don't know why I'm still surprised. :laugh2:
Thought the same

Well, it's not easy to improve the costume style of Chopin 2.0, that really fit him perfectly. Perhaps my favourite Yuzu-costume so far.

On the other hand that strengthens my suspicion that Yuzu is far away from retiring. Next season he's coming up with something completely new that we can not even think of yet... :hap85:

I'll wait and judge the costume on Friday. It's not finished yet, but I bet I'll like it. It seems that the ugly triangles are gone so :yahoo:

The interview of Shuzo and Yuzuru last night was one of the best to me, all of Yuzuru's words struck my heart and I couldn't sleep well after that  Really, what an amazing athlete he is. I'm very proud of being his fan and I sincerely wish all the best for him in this season. Go Yuzuru :yay:

It's interesting to watch eg. Semei and Chopin from 2015 GPF (they keeping popping up in the Japanese TV shows lately), and compare with more recent performances, even just practices.

Yes, they are "recycled" programs, but they look very different now, to my eyes... and I don't mean the extra quads.

His movements have more amplitude and power, and he is more precise and controlled... yet he looks more fluid and effortless. His skating has noticably improved since a couple of years ago, and his performances of those programs are accordingly better too.

I'm not sure it's possible to reflect that in his PCS though, because they were already giving him close to maximum back in 2015...! O_o

No surprise to me, that he set a new WR for SP at Autumn Classic - I think he can easily break it again this season, especially with a 4L... and as for a clean performance of Semei, it's likely to be mind-boggling...

to the bolded - funny that I thought about this today too, waiting for Rostelecom. After ACI SP, I actually went back to past seasons where Yuzuru skated to Chopin SP and for me, there is much more of a feeling about living up the music through every sense now than just 'acting', presenting the beauty of it out. I think that now there is even more of Yuzuru's musical sensibility shown in the program, especially in the way the part including first two spins was re-designed. Comparing both versions now (I think that some alterations could be still introduced through the season), my personal reception is that this one is 'bolder' and more raw in terms of how his movement accentuates music, tempo changes; don't get me wrong - it is still languid, smooth, fluid, but somehow I feel it as more 'edgy', with more of a tense emotion than just a peaceful one there.

I think that the program was re-designed very carefully, not to change it altogether in terms of fit (because it was already perfect match), but to find more 'space' and dimension in it, to accommodate Yuzuru's personality, character, abilities as for NOW; it is especially difficult I think to build on old program that feels comfortable, but to still offer something new on the table and I feel like Yuzuru managed to achieve even harder thing: to build on program emotionally, to 'grow' it, mature it along with himself.

With FS, I am waiting for Rostelecom showing to have a comparison - with more of a stretch in technical/time meaning - and more technical challenges/demands posed, designed by Yuzuru himself - I wonder how the program will feel this time around. It has right magnitude for Olympic surroundings, that's for sure, but I am curious to see its design and how it will reflect onto overall emotion/expression.

Yes yes! ^

My thinking is very similar - but I was too lazy to type it out, and you were not ! :-D

well, I'm trying my best since calling out me 'slacking' about posts count  (joke ofc;))

another thing that I can add to what I already said above is that the example of re-using old SP and re-designing it/redefining it even the way we saw at ACI shows nothing but Yuzuru's strive for constant development, progress, getting more out of everything and capitalizing on things done in the past in creative, meaningful way. For me, both programs sure will feel different - even if recycled from the past - because Yuzuru's each performance feels quite different and each season proves for me that the content/material grows and matures with him.

Thank you, this is super interesting. As always, I am amazed by Yuzuru's intelligence and honesty: he knows that he can win with margin if he skates clean, and he is not afraid to say it. I am happy that he knows it, although I hope he won't get too much into his own head. I think he has matured a lot though, and his confidence has grown!

He says no problem in his knee and Brian also confirmed his good condition :yahoo:

I woke up with great news and saw his smiles  :hap10: Take good care and sleep well, Yuzuru!!

So disappointed in myself as I couldn't gather my courage to retweet his arrival video. I get so nervous thinking about what all these great scientists, lots of Nobel laureates, would think about me twitting about figure skating instead of nuclear quantum effects in non-adiabatic dynamics.

Trapped in a self-censored mode and so depressed :(

Practice starts tomorrow I assume? Safe travel to everyone who is heading there! Again my agony lies with the costume reveal!

Nice smile :)

Yuzuru: I did what I could do (before coming here), so I want to do what I can do properly here.

reporter: How is your knee condition?

Yuzuru: Yes, it is ready with no problem, I am really relieved to be able to come to this spot with no anxiety or worries firstly.

Feeling so glad that he looks very relaxed and happy~ so diff when compare to the airport interview before AC.

I was watching Shuzo-San X Yuzu interview and thinking about the same thing as Shuzo-San, "I want to win resoundingly." Even if someone was thinking about it, they won't say it. But Yuzu did, that's why he is on the top, he dare to say what he think, and he know he can do it.

Farnaz, you don't have to be upset about yourself, if the cycle of people (in social media group) that you are in are not for sharing of figure skating stuff, you don't have to make yourself do it. You can always share it at places where people share the same interest, like here :)

All the best at COR! Yuzu~
