Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

yude!! you are a MVP!! thanks for the hard work, its great to see how athletes from other sports also respect and admire him, and that pooh rain comment was awesome

There are tons of great JPop/JRock/JClassical songs and if Yuzuru can get permission to use them (copyrights is a very big issue in Japan), he will use them.

But if we're suggesting, I think I'd like:
1) Illion (Tokyo Ghoul Theme) - Banka because Yuzuru loves Tokyo Ghoul.
2) Kokoro no Sora - Arashi & Hotei Tomayasu
3) Truth/Endless Game mash up - Arashi
4) Shin Takarajima (Bakuman Theme) - Sakanaction
5) Arashi - Hope in the Darkness (Digitalian concert version) (I forgot to add this song.)

So, I think I will answer here, since Miso was kind enough to provide me with links to these music.

1) Illion (Tokyo Ghoul Theme) - Banka because Yuzuru loves Tokyo Ghoul.

I like this song, but not for skating, feel it won´t allow to fluid moment that I think is Yuzuru´s streanght.
2) Kokoro no Sora - Arashi & Hotei Tomayasu
3) Truth/Endless Game mash up - Arashi
5) Arashi - Hope in the Darkness (Digitalian concert version) (I forgot to add this song.)
Sorry, I couldn´t with Arashi, don´t be mad, I know they are adore in Japan (I think one of the interviewers that always talks with Yuzuru is a member?). I just feel the music dated and I don´t particularly like the theme
4) Shin Takarajima (Bakuman Theme) - Sakanaction---- I love Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (I have read and watch Hikaru No Go, Death Note and Bakuman, all of them may be in my favorite list of all time), but I didn´t like this song for skating

So I bargain, here is some Japanese music I feel it could made a great program
1.) Kenji Kawai - Cinema Symphony - Ghost In The Shell OST
2.) Kenji Kawai - Mezame no Hakobune
3.) Scaflowne- is one of favorite music ever, and the variety of music could create a program- ; specialy Shadow of Doubt is a very epic piece of music , and I can almost imagine a step sequence to Dance of Curse
4.) He could his pick to any of this list , this other one
5.) Attack on Titan OST is there a thing that is broken with frontiers is this anime, and his OST is as popular as the anime
6.) Probably most fitting to a woman, but since he loves Weir´s Ave Maria, he could do Elfen Lied´s Lilium
7.) Against probably music more fitting for a female skater, but OVER THE SKY is beautiful , and also Last Exile has an epic soundtrack , and the flying theme fit him really well
8.) Nothing says cool costumer more than, Cowboy Bebop , and the op is acclaimed around the world

I love Jpo and Jrock, just can´t seem to picture a competitive program to any particular song, my nerd heard would love t o see him skating a ex to WADA KOUJI (Butterfly), Aqua Timez (Alones, Sen no Yoru wo Koete, Velonica , Mayonaka No Orchestra, Ketsui no asa ni ) , Ramar (Wild Flowers ), Anything by Spitz and the Honey Clover anime would made my life complete (Jet´aime is gorgeous) ; and right now I have been listening to Goose House Hikaru Nara

Hope you enjoy my post :)

I love both of these pieces, especially Shadow of Doubt, very creative and beautiful use of the violin and just so different. I could definitely see a pretty fabulous short program being created out of this.

and I can almost imagine a step sequence to Dance of Curse

This one reminds me of Carmina Burana.

I would wonder what type of programs people are considering first when it comes to music. Almost any suggestion could work for an EX, and that's the program I think most Jpop/Jrock falls under. For LP or even SP, much as the judges liked Seimei or LGC, both are still a bit "classical." Classical in the sense that Seimei still follows classical music structure, and it's instrumental; and LGC is classic rock and Prince is easy to understand by an english speaking/western/anglo-saxon judging panel.

For a long or short program, a lot of Jpop won't work as easily, simply because you'd have to edit the music to fit the climaxes that come and goes with jumps/spins/footwork layouts. And if you add lyrics, it becomes a nightmare to edit. Then there's the issue of pacing, which much as I love me some jpop, pop music pacing is usually the same/monotone throughout. This gives athletes less chance to catch their breath, and there are problems with footwork sequences etc if the music is more fast (movements may come off as frantic, messy).

I would say of the above, Escaflowne (yoko kanno is good), and Kenji Kawai (probably an edit of his music compilation) are the only ones I think could work well for LP or even SP due to the pacing their music has. The rest I'm not as sure.

I couldn´t have worded it better, why I don´t think Jpop, Jrock could work in a program. But talking about pop I think Vincent Z. used a nice song and his SP worked really well, also the ACDC program (I forgot the name of the girl, sorry) was awesome.

But I hold on to my dream on a EX program to any of my favorite anime songs. :)

I just was listening to another Yoko Kanno work in Sakamishi no Apollon and I think that the jazz in this soundtrack could work. (btw I didn´t knew she was from Sendai).

Like some other people, I have say a SP to Tank! would be a dream. Yuzuru has done Jazz before and could use parts from the rest of the soundtrack to create pauses and changes in the mood.

Being a new Yuzu fan, I think this is the best place to share this babble.
Going binge watching his past interviews these primary captivated me:
1. He writes down goals and monitors them.
Even as a kid his mind was all set to win a medal in Sochi 2014. He was so excited about it and calculated he will be 19 by then.
In an interview in Kenji's room he shared that during grade school he aims to win 2 back to back medals.
And he will do it pyeongchang. If I knew him earlier on, I would probably think he is so over confident.
But now he's done it. Its nothing but wow so this is Yuzuru Hanyu.
I really find it funny that he was following the goals since middle school.
Now I wonder when he mentioned marrying between 25-28 years old, did he write it down too. lol

2. He is so cutely determined.
After just days before the competition in pyeongchang he confidently said I can win and I will win it.
Fresh out of the injury and no one saw him skate just yet. I bet all the other men competing had mixed feelings of his statement.
But he came out and proved it in as early as SP. Its just insane.

3. He knows his priorities.
After sochi he wanted to train for the salchow. lol
Then after pyeongchang he wants to rehabilitate.
I really believe he will do the quad axle. And I don't know how my heart can handle it once it comes.

I might've imagined it, but didn't Yuzu say he preferred to use music without lyrics for his programs? Or maybe Mao is the one that said this.

I typically don't enjoy pop songs or lyrics for competitive programs, there's very few that I've enjoyed so far. I think it's because I find it to be a distraction and often a crutch for expression and interpretation. Plus I think a lot of programs with lyrics tend to be overly literal in choreography (which I dislike), but it's only been 3 seasons for singles skaters since they've been allowed to use lyrics so maybe choreographers and skaters will get better at creating programs around this type of music.
