Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I was rewatching White Legend from Nice 2012, and I´m surprise in comparison to Notte Stellata how much Yuzuru´s edges and steps have improved, also the speed is so different.

I still like a lot of elements about white legend, specially the twizzel because is so original in here.

I watched his Sochi free recently and noticed how much he is improved all around. You really see the results of his hard work these past 4 years.

True

Totally agree! His Parisienne Walkways outstanding though, I just loved it!

A poster in tumblr was making a comparison between the different versions of Ballade, and at the beginning she has this to say about PW and Ballade from the point of design sense:
In the context of that season, in both music choice and choreographic style, Ballade 1.0 presented a stark contrast to Yuzu’s SP of the previous 2 seasons, Parisienne Walkways. It impressed me because it displayed an entirely new level of development in Yuzu’s skating skills and interpretation. Parisienne Walkways, in my opinion, was a program tailor-made to Yuzu’s best strengths: speed, agility, lightness of movements. It was a fast, playful, and somewhat whimsical program that was a perfect fit for a teenager. Ballade, on the other hand, showed me strengths I wasn’t even aware that Yuzu possessed: flow, control, and musical sensitivity. It was an incredibly mature composition, and one fit for the reigning Olympic and World champion.

I guess that versatility was something Yuzu and his team truly wanted to present with his SP that season, because it showed in the ambiance of v1.0: the impression I got from that version was always one of delicacy and tenderness. While PW was a very outward-looking program which built on a lot of interaction between Yuzu and the audience, Ballade 1.0 was much more introverted. It was 3 minutes of Yuzu having an internal dialogue with the piano music, a conversation which we, the audience, were allowed the privilege of listening in.

Her blog is great in analyzing technique and programs.

Alice! I love her blog. I read that post. PW and Ballade are two of my favorites Yuzu’s programs actually and loved the comparison because it shows the enormous range he is capable of. First time I saw Ballade I thought OMG! not same skater, both are amazing but definitely he is another one from PW. This kid can do whatever he wants, he’s unbelievable!

Ballade for me it will always be one of my favorites programs. First I love Chopin and Ballade No.1 is my favorite of all his pieces. Second every movement is so well choreographed, even the fingers. It has a "peace to chaos" feeling to me, specially the last step sequence.

PW, I just remember how just after his performance in twitter "this japanese kid " was trending worldwide, and one tweet said "this japanese kid have more groove... "... It was Yuzuru´s first rock star performance for people outside figure skating fans, and it really was a great fun program to watch...

Exactly! That’s when the rockstar was known! [emoji23] and you’re right, the first time I told my sister, look at his fingers, she looked at me like 🤦🏻*♀️ It’s so funny you mentioned the peace to chaos feeling! Ballade is how I describe my thinking process and my need of chaos before calm, happiness or illumination! [emoji23] I just love that piece.

Yep, it is a great peace...

Funny enough I was looking for an article about the team event back in 2014 and found this funny Buzzfeed article https://www.buzzfeed.com/valeried12...eartthrob-b7nv?utm_term=.tuNa71R41#.dqlRomlqm

I've just woken up and seen the twitter has been in the technical error :dbana: No, not today please!! :gaah:

Edited: It was fixed!!

Indeed. Remember when he’d be so spent by the end of his programs he’d collapse on the ice? Now he has more control of his breathing which probably helps a lot with his asthma and stamina. And of course his skating skills are just phenomenal now. He’s evolved beautifully.

I love all of Yuzuru’s short programs, but PW is special. It’s baffling that some thought it was too mature for him at the time. I disagree of course. It was perfect for a 18-19 year old. For me it represented the flirtiness and reckless abandonment of youth. I thought it was amazing how that program progressed too over the 2013-2014 season. It got better and better with each competition and by the Olympics it was perfect.

Ballade 1 (and likely Seimei too) is Yuzuru’s signature program, I think. Kind of like Torvil and Dean’s Bolero. Years after he retires I think that program will always be remembered for the masterpiece it is and how brilliantly he skated it.

He's skated them enough times for then to be well remembered, that's for sure!

Certainly no more mature than Alina tigress´s program :noshake:

Totally! As I’m not an expert at all, it took me a little while to fully appreciated the masterpiece Ballade is, I’m still learning and Ballade have been like my text book.

I never saw Torvill and Dean before, it’s awesome to see those iconic programs, thank you very much for made me [emoji6] I would use Yagudin’s winter to talk about a signature program. I’m sure it will happen with Ballade and unique and powerful Seimei.

PW, well it is a special program for me because was the program that cured me of Plushy’s sudden retirement depression after grown up with him [emoji23]

This vid, Yuzuru was arriving to Canada, he was so nervous, it makes me want to travel in time and tell him, you have no idea what is going to happen with this fun and sexy program of yours, how you will improve yourself and the program itself, it’ll break the 100 points barrier, will win an OGM, will get better score than Plushenko’s at the team event, and everyone will know how to spell your name kiddo!
