Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I wanted to say sorry for bringing up the Lutz discussion with harsh mistakes :sad21:

I rewatched the gifs and slomos and you're totally right about Yuzu's clean toe assist. The freeze frames, which I found were inacurrate or shew a bad perspective I guess... Thank you very much for correcting me! I'm relieved that Yuzu's technique is totally fine.

Never wanted to attack him, I just tried to understand his struggles with that jump and wanted to share my thoughts. Should have made clear, that these are no facts, just my mere ideas...

Again I'm very sorry for causing that uproar. It won't happen again.

I am not even a skater or an expert either, and I am also still learning many about the sport. We know you love Yuzuru, and that is the most important for me here in FF :ghug: Please keep posting and having fun with us :)

It's okay, that's why I tried to counteract your idea with that gif. But I confess I was really confused about seeing someone actually say Yuzu picked his lutz on a full blade and that it should be called a 4Lo. The idea was so ludicrous to me it took me a moment to read it again and see if I was reading correctly. Sorry about that! But I'm glad some posts here helped you understand why your initial take wasn't correct.

Thank you so much for the summary. Indeed, the entry to the last 3A was crazy! https://youtu.be/23EfsN7vEOA?t=3m37s And to do it so late in the program. Wow.

It was the 'hidden 3A' that had Kurt Browning so impressed back at NHK 2015. When he originally debuted Seimei 2.0 it wasn't there anymore so I'm so happy he ended up doing it again in the end, even if it was likely because of the dropped third quad in the second half due to injury.

I bought "Ice Jewels" today and there was special interview of Yuzuru. It seems to have been given a month after the Olympics and he said he had not put on skating boots at all yet.

Rough summary.

・After going back to Toronto, he saw Brian and had the meeting. Brian was very happy for Yuzuru's Olympic win.

・In the EX practice of the Olympics, he was using the painkillers but trying to have fun as much as he could while making sure not to worsen the injury. He also tried "Big Axel" (single Axel) for his Swan EX at first but started doing it imagining 4A. He knew he would not be able to train after the Olympics so he wanted to do what he could do at that time.

・Ondrej Hotarek had been supportive of Yuzuru. And in EX, when they did the lift together, Valentina Marchei told Yuzuru, "He is my partner, so please don't take him away from me. I am better than you." and he replied "I know, I won't." (lol)

・He doesn't feel like the season was over because he participated in only a few competitions. He watched GPF and he was going to watch WC (this interview was given before WC). He feels he could give his all at the Olympics, but he also feels he could not have done enough to the programs of the different layouts. And if he skated in new programs, he would not have been satisfied because he did not have enough time to practice those programs a lot.

・He watched his old programs since his childhood the other day, and he found out that he could do his best more and have good performances more when he was injured. He thinks it is because he can concentrate more on himself when he is driven into a corner. At those times, he does not become greedy, and he does think he wants to win but doesn't feel he has to skate clean. (and he talks a lot about the difficulty in controlling of the state of his mind and body giving some examples in the past competitions, but I'm not sure if I can translate it well so I skip, sorry!)

・He was smiling in SEIMEI of the Olympics because he thought he won and could skate till the end. Usually he doesn't smile during the performances but he could not help letting real himself out (lol). He lost focus after hanging on Lz (he thought "what's that landing?" and burst out laughing), he was so happy hearing the cheer from the crowd and enjoyed the rest of the performance. He didn't feel tiredness and thought he did well in spins and steps. At the end of SP, he looked like he grinned, it was because he felt like "I'm back/home".

・About FS, he was thinking he could compete with Javier without 4Lo depending on the point gap. But he was really conscious of Nathan Chen because he knew the coach Rafael was very calculative in terms of the layout, and he thinks it might have been one of the reasons why he had stayed being vague about doing 4Lo or not, he didn't want Rafael to know his plan.

・In a way, to water down the layout is hard since he has to win with getting GOE +3. He could get +3 on 4S and 4T in FS, which was meaningful. He had error in 4T in the latter half but was confident in 3A and doing it with any difficult entry. 3A is the jump he can feel easy in doing in combo. He thinks the entry to 3A-1Lo-3S is rather hard, even harder than counter-3A
Yude thank you for this.
The lutz discussion was interesting. And I am glad everyone is just having a healthy exchange of ideas.
Proud of you guys for being chill.:ghug:

RIP ME this is too funny

In "Ice Jewels", there are 2 pages of analyze about Men's event written by Nobuhiko Yoshioka, ISU judge. It has the numbers and tables, and he explains them objectively. And the last chapter was about "what-if"s scenario and he still writes professionally talking about the deduction from each skater and so on, but in the end, he said "However, it is totally meaningless to think "what...if...the ranking would be..." from these result of the calculations, so I will close this section. If you are curious, it would be good for you to calculate the numbers by yourself":laugh2:

My suggestion...just lurk. People on here can be vicious. I was new and posted something and got attacked for it. Haven't posted again since and I also removed all of my posts. I only read now and rarely even do that. The only reason I'm here today is because I was linked here through a post on another site I was reading. There's great info and up-to-date postings on him on other sources as well. And I do post on a couple more laid back forums that have been extremely welcoming and no so uptight. I'm sorry you got attacked. I post on many forums, not just Yuzuru focused ones, and don't let a lot get to me, but when it gets to the point that I start to dislike someone based on their fans, I know it's time to walk away. Unfortunately, many Hanyu fans on forums are crazy over him to a fault, and this site is no exception. It's actually one of the worse I've seen. Either be vague in what you post or just lurk or be prepared to be quickly corrected...to put it mildly. But in all honesty, you owe NO ONE here an apology. I watch Yuzuru because of the enjoyment I get from watching him. And I talk about him and read about him because in addition to being a phenomenal skater, he's also a phenomenal person. Unfortunately, some of his fans make it harder to like him, but that's not his fault, so I will never hold it against him. Good luck to you, and that's all I have to say. After seeing how you were treated, I for certain won't be back now, even occasionally. Not the kind of fans I would associate myself with at this point. It was beyond ridiculous. Life's too short to be so serious. So continue to enjoy watching him. Continue to be a fan and don't let others bully you here. There are plenty of great sites to stay up to date on him and other great forums to post about him and stay up-to-date on him. Good luck to you. Bye, bye.

When someone says that sky is green, most people will disagree... It doesn't matter whose fan you are. Try to say that Patrick has shallow edges in his fanfest or that Nathan/Boyang has inside edge on his Lutz. Or that Evgenia/Alina doesn't have any transitions in her program. Imagine that a new fan is trying to learn about technical aspect of figure skating and will read something like that and will believe that. It's one thing to say you don't like someone's program, style, quality or the fact that they make actual technical mistakes. There are people who don't mind underrotations. There people who don't mind lack of transitions and it's alright. But it's completely different thing to call someone's correct jump something else.

Anyway it's okay to make mistakes and learn from them. But if you don't know you made mistake, someone has to correct you :)

That's why I shared my thoughts in the first place. If I hadn't done that, I still would have this wrong and painful image in my mind, so thanks for correcting me :) I don't carry a grudge against anybody here :ghug:
You know I'm a huge Yuzu fan myself and he's the very last skater I could call a technical cheater. It's a relief to know that Yuzu's Lutz technique is fine and his occasional mistakes have other reasons :)

I'm happy to see him skate again and having fun. His little career flashback at CWW was a joy to watch and I hope he can find programs for the next season, he feels comfortable with. New or old, with small jumps or big jumps (or no jumps at all)... it doesn't matter to me. Just wish that people stop bothering him with questions about Beijing 2022. Four years are a very long time in figure skating...

Personally I try to be as polite and friendly as possible but as Interspectator mentioned it is not easy to convey all your feelings through only words in the forum. I sincerely apologize if I had hurt anyone but I'm sure most of the posters tried to talk professionally about a FS technique. Being that said, I agree with you that it is not appropriate to e.g. call people's opinion "total nonsense" or accuse them of "spreading false statements". I hope all of us, including myself, keep it in mind that our words could be perceived harsher than we think. Starting with myself, let's just read our comments once more before posting them :ghug:

But, when people "spread false statement" it should be called like that, not more nor less, so they will be careful next time, specially in a fan fest of a skater we are suppose to support to

Can't we give them the benefit of doubt? The fact that they are sharing their honest opinion without any ulterior motive? Especially because this is a fan fest and we have a same passion and interest? As I said before, I believe most of the posters used detailed explanations with Gifs and videos to explain. There were just a few responses that were a bit harsh but still it would be nice if we can avoid them. I mean we are fans of one of the most kindhearted sportsmen in the history of modern sport. We can be as bright as a sunshine that he himself is :thank:

And by the way, welcome to the thread, I loooooove to see new members and friends

I think it's ok people can share their opinion but not telling them as a fact, like it happened this time, spreading it not only here but on tweeter as well. I think Yuzuru deserves better for what he does and that's why I will be careful in anything I would have doubt about his skating, because we know that he doesn't always get credit for what he does.
I agree being polite helps to make it clear, but telling when someone is wrong in a serious way without using insults is a valid way either. After all it's assumed that we are all here with good intention, right? That we are NOT just crazy people pretending to attack others because we have no brain for anything else, right?

Anyway, thank you for your welcome words, yes, it good to share admiration for Yuzuru Hanyu, as he deserves.

Now I'm curious about these tables.

There are only 3 tables having the numbers of top 5 skaters, so some fans are working harder  It is analysis of only two pages and for the casual fans after all. But personally I find it funny one of the ISU judges said straight that he did not care "what-if"s after the game was finished :p
