Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I think, the Japan Open have many advantages this season:

1. They're scheduled two weeks after Autumn Classic, so Yuzu would have some additional time for preparation, if he skips ACI and enters JO instead.

2. It would be the perfect test event for Worlds (both are held in Saitama) and for the new judging system, since many top skaters are competing (Nathan, Javi, Shoma maybe), so Yuzu can make some adjustments in time, if it's necessary.

3. And as mentioned before - it's his last chance to compete with/ against Javi. I can imagine that this is important to him.

Yeah I don't see him going out of his way to compete with Javi at a cheesefest but that's just me. I think he made his peace with the Olympics being their last comp which is why he was emotional about it. I also really doubt he'll put much stock in a cheesefest since he's spent plenty of time in Japan this summer as is. I think ACI is more likely because it's more valuable if he is interested in getting more ISU points towards his world ranking. He will also want to get his SP out there which he can't do if he forgoes ACI. Besides Javi, does Brian have any skaters going to JO? That might play a factor if Brian already plans to be there. But I also don't see Brian not taking advantage of an ACI right in their backyard. Whatever the case, I think Yuzu will heed Brian's suggestions which will be purely based on good training strategy rather than sentimental reasons.

Agree :agree: It's a special situation with his long rehab and all the new members at TCC, so the priorities are different. Whatever he does, I wish him all the best :yay:

If I remember correctly someone posted on june 29 we will have an idea of Yuzu's GP assignments?

I can remember something with end of June, too, but I'm not sure, if it's still accurate. I heard that ISU needs confirmation till 25th June from Korea, whether they replace CoC or not. Four days are not really much to reconsider the schedules etc...

I don't know, if this clip has been posted here yet, but it's hilarious :laugh2:

I think David Molina tweeted that the GP assignments will be published on June 29th.

On the topic of Japan Open, it's an invitational event linked to IMG. They'd probably invite other IMG skaters before Yuzu anyway, and really, Yuzu doesn't have anything to gain from doing a competition that requires a long flight and doesn't give ranking points. I don't think Javi's participation in any event would be a reason for Yuzu choosing to compete somewhere any way, they're seeing each other plenty during ice shows and I'm sure Javi has to train at least a bit at TCC for Japan Open and Euros :).

ACI seems to be an obvious choice if he feels his condition is good. It's in Oakville this year which is very close to Toronto.

4CC I think is probably a good possibility this year. It's in Anaheim, it's only 3 hours behind Toronto and roughly a 5-6 hr flight (same as GPF in Vancouver). It could be a good preparation for Worlds without having to travel overseas. Of course, this might just be my wishful thinking since I plan to go :p. Is there any real indication that he ever plans to skip 4CC unless forced to due to health or Olympic season?

I think that 4CC is rather an optional event for Yuzuru. Maybe he'll put it into his plan in case he'll have his 4A figured out by then and wish to showcase it to gain powers on that element. The travelling seems to be beneficial this coming season so why not? But I wouldn't be so sure about that. Maybe he'll skip it again.

Thanks for answering my GP question guys. It's 7 days away I am excited to know.
Hopefully Yuzu gets assigned to the events where majority of his fans can see him.
And by the way he was performing in Ice shows, I think his rehab is doing fine.

Can anybody link me to the new BV table for 2018-2019 season. My google skills are a failure lmao.

And just curious, does anybody have an idea when Yuzu will finish his Waseda degree.
I really envy Japan that they have real degree courses online. Or was Yuzu an exception due to his athlete status?
I only see short courses usually online. They have certificates but definetly not as strong as a diploma.

I don't think he needs extra experience in Saitama Arena because he is going to nationals this year. I also think 1 test event ACI is enough before GP. He hasn't had much training time due to rehab and ice shows this year so I think he will not want to waste anytime doing JO.

I think they have online studies available free.

After Olympics there was an interview with a Waseda profesor, that says that onlide degrees take about 5 to 6 years. So my guess is that if Yuzuru has took full class charge per period he will graduate next year or in 2019, if not maybe in 2020.

On ISU world standing it says yuzu only trains 14 hrs per week. This is one of the lowest training time compared to other skaters. Is this accurate information ?
